Not sure if anyone made a topic like this yet but here goes…

Among the rows of files and vaults of our many characters both discarded and current there is always that one character that you love to write/play. It’s a character that probably has a history a mile long that is deep, faceted and complicated; a character that you could write in your sleep, one handed or without all of your cognitive functions.

For me that character is Alieria Spellsong; Brood (feline shapeshifter with psionics), former Queen, currently the diplomat to Utopia (fantasy world) among a slew of other titles and occupations. She comes from a troubled past but has risen above it. She is strong, caring yet willing to sacrifice everything for what she believes in. Her jaded personality makes her fun to write but also that depth that is there, all that she has gone through; past relationships, alliances, enemies and friends have all contributed to her personality that is uniquely her. She is determined but cautious and walks like she carries some mysterious burden. Yet for all of that she has a soft side, romantic and deeply fragile. She is a combination of so many descriptions and contradictions that she is so complex that I don’t even think this meager description can adequately portray her.

So I am interested to know what that character is for everyone else? How have they evolved and did you foresee that happening to that character?

For me, it's a tie between my characters Jason and Pavo. Pavo is harder to write for, but he's so much more complex, so I'll wax eloquent about him for now. *begin rambling* He was born in Etruria some time around ~400 BC, and his is the story of everlasting love. His soulmate sacrificed herself to ensure their newborn son would not be killed, and would live a safe and happy life; overcome with grief and believing their son was lost, he committed suicide, except his soul 'continued on', and he lingered as a powerful ghost/angel. . Essentially, he's the last of the Etruscans. As a human he always suffered from depression, and that continued afterwards; he was the mourning, broken angel chained forever to that which he had lost. On the outside he is cold and desolate, but within he harbours hidden passion for love, music, philosophy, and all that is good in the world. However, come modern times, his pessimism has reached crushing levels. xD He's misanthropic, cynical and derisive. (Oh and his wings are embellished with peacock greens/blues/purples/blacks and fronds, which was the original inspiration for him, haha <3). I think most of the writing challenges I've entered on RPG-D have featured him or his story in some way - that indicates how much I adore his history and development.

Mine is my elf mage/sorcerer Nim'aridoln Dia'dami. In my own 'verse he is a true neutral character, a druid and he always has a animal companion - a hawk named Qui'rain. He tends to be a bit socially inept, a recluse, and has an evil sister/lover (depending on the setting! Not incest!) called Malvae, and she is by far my fave female charry. Currently she is an elf assassin but she has been a sorceress in the past. They are, hands down, always my most popular characters. case in point, Nim was created for CoT in April and has 40 completed threads and 5 on the go right now. Malvae has five threads active right now and tonnes of requests for more. Maybe its because I love playing them, I knew them well and it shows? They are complex characters because of this and folks tend to react to this by wanting to thread with them and stay in threads with them.

I'd probably say my chatty shifter [shapeshifter, changes into animals] who's primary form is a squirrel, tbh. He started out as really innocent and extroverted, friendly, naive and excitable and he bussed tables at the same diner his mom worked at, and now he's a drug dealer (of a fictional drug) who doesn't take very kindly to being cheated or to people dealing in his area. Money changes people, you know?

I have no idea what's going to happen to him in the future. That's kind of the fun part.

My favourite character is my gay 19th century Naval surgeon Russell Gallien. He has a bad relationship with his father, an Irish immigrant to England, and as a result, is pretty poor, despite his education and social status. He's obsessed with Jamaica after living there for a few years with his mother's parents (French and Creole) and keeps thinking back to those days. He's a nice guy, I think, but he has his flaws. He's really b*tchy, over-dramatic, and hypocritical...

While he's sometimes maternal, he can be rather uncaring towards his patients if he holds a grudge against them (surgeon of the year award goes to...) and is also very patronising to people younger than him.

I don't have any future plans for him, but I kind of want him to lose an ear or a limb (but nothing too hindering for a doctor). I just love drama

I've loved playing Eric Northman (True Blood), Psylocke/Elizabeth Braddock, Hellion/Julian Keller and White Queen/Emma Frost (X-Men), Julian Sark (Alias), Alec (Dark Angel) and many others.

When it comes to OC's my favourites have been my True Blood interpretation of Dracula, and an entirely original character also in the True Blood universe; a vampire named Mikhail Raynewolf. He was so indulgent and cuttingly witty, as well as impulsive and dispontant to human emotion. All Kale wanted to do was indulge, yet at the same time, he wasn't petty or all that concerned with killing or hurting humans. He thought it was tedious. In fact Kale was more keen to hurt and kill fledgeling vampires who acted like fools, or vampires who disrespected their kind by having no honour.

My baaaaaaaaaby boy, my first real male character, an experiment on my part meant to only play for a few months just to see if I could do it (incidentally, I still play him, 5 years and many incarnations later). Homeless drifter, tattooed bad boy with a romantic streak, a musician and philosopher, damaged and damaging. *sighs* He's consistently my most popular character, too.

Despite causing me the most trouble over the years, my favourite character (even though I feel mean having favourites!) has to be my ancient Roman ex-gladiator/slave named Mark. He's changed a lot of the years. He was meant to be this gruff, mouthy, badass gladiator ala Spartacus (and whilst he's still all those things), he's proven to be so much more. He is my onion! There's a lot of layers to him, and he's been positively traumatised by his past, and this has has more of an impact on him than I initially thought. He's one of these guys whose bark is worse than their bite, and who acts like a complete b*stard just to keep other people away, when, in reality, he's a nice guy, but just very, very insecure and unsure of himself and everything/everyone around him. He's been hurt, and he doesn't want to be hurt more.

He tends to be my most popular character (and requests related to him have included him gaining weight, and him taking part in a literal sex education class, because he's a bit... scarred when it comes to sex), and apparently he even has a fanclub (!).

I haven't really got any plans for him. He's recently got back with his partner after the player returned (despite me thining that, nah, it's not going to happen), and they're currently getting used to each other again. And I have no idea where that will go, but that's the fun of it.

So, yes, he's my big onion, and I loves him.

Just one character?! I don't know that I can pick just one. I'd say maybe my girl Callie, incredibly competitive, loud-mouthed, tech-savvy and a big ole science nerd not to mention, secretly a hopeless romantic. She's super friendly if not a little bit oblivious to her surroundings and is just a lot of fun to play. But really, I have too many favorites and am already starting to think of others to list here. I just can't pick.

Namari Lovelle! I've only had her for a year, but she's by far the most fun character I own to RP. Not to mention I think she's the most developed of my characters. When I first started rping her she was arrogant, rude, and quick to start fights. And now she is a lot more caring and calm. Still very stubborn. And she often cares the most for those looked down upon. Not to mention she seems to be the most interesting to interact with other characters. And of course I'm horrible to her, and her lovers usually end up either dead, or they can't be together.

I never really saw her becoming a better person. I always thought that Namari would always want money for helping others, always threaten the lives of anyone who ticked her off. But, I do like her now. And it's not like it was an automatic change, it graduated through the year she has existed.

I am planning on making her fall in love with someone she can actually keep, at some point. Other than that I'm really just going with the flow!

Dude. IDK if I can choose! They got in and out of the rotation, but I can't say one is my favorite. In fandom it was a little easier. The Ninth Doctor (my first RP character) and Cordelia Chase. They were just so much damn fun to play! And Capt Jack Harkness! If it moves, flirt with it! Innuendos out of everything! Ugh, I miss them sometimes.

FOr OCs, my current favorite it Oz, a giant (literally and figuratively) grumpy grump who is a Judgey McStick Up His Butt. I adore torturing him. In the past there's been my sweet but dumb character Honey, and b1tchy but funny Jessica, who was also my first OC. :')

I guess I tend to favor over the top characters. >.> <.<

Probably my hard-and-gritty Weyrleader character. He dropped out of his apprenticeship after developing a bad gambling addiction, fell in love with a woman (who turned out to be the Weyrwoman) at first sight, wound up Impressing bronze. He "robbed from the rich to give to the poor" for a while, got his best friend involved in this prospect, got caught, and wound up getting him and all his co-conspirators in jail before someone else took the fall for them. Eventually, he became Weyrleader, made deals with thieves and smugglers, used the Weyr's bar as a way to launder money. Although he used to get into fights all the time, he actually wasn't much of a fighter; he could take a beating, and he could throw a beating, but he wasn't, like, skilled or graceful - just a big, tough dude. He was on and off the wagon through all of this, sometimes sober, sometimes drinking like a fish. He had a terrible love life to boot, running through women because - in love or not - he and the Weyrwoman were just too equally jacked up to have a decent relationship and were constantly seeking new ways to hurt and alienate each other. Eventually, just when it seemed like happily ever after was within his grasp... she wound up dying of liver cancer, and he abandoned his position and fell back into old habits.

I retired the character not long after, since the game had shifted focus away from "gritty" RP and into more fluffy regions, and he just didn't fit in with the new vibe. But, man, do I miss some of those scenes.

It'd have to be my Cajun bartender, he was this big, scary looking guy who could probably snap you in two just as easily as he blew his nose. But he was also this sweet, lovable goofball. The kind of guy you could get drunk with and watch Popeye cartoons, the kind of guy you could count on when things seemed their darkest, etc.

A lot happened with him I didn't expect, he became a godfather of a werewolf puppy, he met a beautiful woman and until her player disappeared they were due to give birth to a baby boy. Also he won couple of the month and admin recognition which were also things we didn't foresee.

It was so sad when I had to give him up when the site closed.

I have to go with Astraea Winterborn of Escova fame. :p

She's the seemingly ruthless and generally unpopular queen of an island nation (Escova). She was born in foreign country on the mainland. Originally she was intended to become a priestess and spent several years of her young life at a monastery. After having returned home, her life took an unexpected twist when the visiting king of Escova chose to take her as part of a trade agreement instead of her older sister. She left for Escova soon afterward to serve as a handmaiden to the queen, but shortly after the queen's death, the king chose her as his new queen. Given the general dislike for foreigners in Escova and the speedy queen turnover, a lot of people were upset by the decision. Things only got worse when Astraea failed to provide an heir to the throne and the king died under mysterious circumstances (some assume she killed him). For a year after the king's death, Astraea controlled the country alone (thanks to the king's brother's refusal to take the crown), and thaaaat didn't go well. Eventually she proposed marriage to her late husband's brother (whose wife had died not too long ago) for the convenience of it. . . and they can't seem to get along well at all. :p

That's the basic summary of her background, I suppose.

Personality-wise, she's very cold and uptight-- power-hungry and all business. She's pretty much willing to do whatever she needs to do to stay in power. . . but she wasn't always like that. It has become pretty clear that she's a product of her circumstances and that there's more to her beyond the surface unfriendliness. ;) She's a ton of fun for tense conversations and arguments, and when that tension gives way to awkward moments of humanity-- priceless. It's fun to play her against her husband, who's Mr. Good Intentions, Compassion, and Morality.

I don't have a favourite. I am only playing two characters right now, none of the ones in the past really spring forwards either.

So I'll go with my captain. Originally she was but a name to fill in the profile on the Nova system. Just because I had to have a bio. I stupidly used my online nick and accidentaly created a character. So she's a pirate. I would have liked her to be a female Errol Flynn-pirate. But noooo. She had to have these flaws. Her biggest talent is to mess things up. With the best intentions she just makes things worse. It isn't intentional, I am sure, and she must be the unluckiest pirate around. Did you know, she once lost her entire crew? I still don't know how that exactly happened. But she feels awfully guilty about it.

And then her love life. Ouch. So far, we've uncovered that she accidentily betrayed her lover which made him nearly kill her. Then we learn she had a fling with some obnoxious corrupt king on a meditarranean island, whom she couldnt stand. And now we know she is responsible for the death of the family and dog of one of her previous lovers, while leaving him for dead as well.

But she isn't clumsy. She can fight. She cut off the hand of her former lover when he tried to kill her, again. She is agile, and she can hit a target, mostly. She's even well-liked. Mostly. She can be kind too, even a little naive. I think that balance is what keeps her in the captain's seat. Otherwise, why hasnt her crew not thrown her overboard already?

WELL I DON'T HAVE TO DESCRIBE HIM NOW, DO I?!

Sven, everybody. God, this was easy.

Actually, I think my favourite character still is a kiddo called Isa Karun. I love him mostly because I can probably write a novel about his back-story, coming way before RP time. I'm not going to even attempt to write it all out. Isa is exceptionally fun to play because he is brutally honest at times, crass and insensitive. He's had a rough childhood, so he's often a bit too realistic about the things around him, though he generally tries to play the optimist he's never actually been. There's a certain energy to him that relays very well in roleplay. Since he was about seven, he'd been a blacksmith's apprentice. From the age of fifteen, he decided to do something with the talent he had and became a vigilante, because he couldn't join the army. Eventually, at the age of 20 (now-ish), he joined the army and he's having a bit of trouble adjusting to it (because, funnily enough, going from complete freedom to taking orders is not so easy, actually). I've managed to play him for a whole year without viable romantic interests - something I'm really proud of - and only developed his back story.

I've actually got a few that are just my absolute favorites.

Darian Omega has been a character of mine for a good two and a half years now, and he's been everything from a horrible, frightening vampire to a true southern gentleman to a prince to a king. However, I've found two sides of him that are just...perfect. There's the family-oriented, strong southern gentleman who has a jealous and possessive side, and then there's the Russian vampire (originally named Viktor Fortunatov) who is just a completely evil jerk. Except I would use a stronger word than jerk. His history and tough upbringing during the Thirteen Years War made him the way he is.

Xendahlia Westergen is a character I mostly use in supernatural or fantasy RPGs. She's always a witch, sometimes a witch queen, and she's really...well, strange. She lived alone for most of her life, so it's always super fun to have her be really awkward and strange and make people uncomfortable when she interacts with them. xD Aside from that, she has delved into dark magic just a bit too much, and of course, it has taken its toll on her sanity. She killed her best friend because she believed that the woman wished to usurp her position as queen...yeah, she's a handful. xD I've actually been having dreams about her lately...

And then there's Viviana Auditore. :3 She's actually an addition to the Auditore family from Assassin's Creed, but she's evolved into soooo much more. She ended up as this vampire in the modern world who's extremely cold and feral to anyone and anything. She runs the modern Monteriggioni and a network of assassins, and sometimes a club or two in America. Though she comes off with the entire "I don't care about anything" attitude, she's extremely guilty about her family's death and feels as if she should have saved them.

I could seriously go on and on and on about all three of them, but I forced myself to cut out quite a bit. xD

I can't choose. All my characters are completely different, and each from their own fandoms, so it'd be like comparing apples to oranges.

Prince Logan, Fenris, Captain Jack Sparrow, Loki, The Carpenter, Lestat de Lioncourt, The Joker x2 (Heatho's & Hamill's), Kuja, are my ultimate favourites. But I can say that my favourite OC ever, is my Fallout 3/4 OC, Thomas, a Ghoul roast chef.

I can't choose just the one character, but my utmost faves are: A few Canon characters, on account of the amazing people I played with; said characters developed in unexpected ways. Good memories! They were Kefka Palazzo of FFVI, Zidane Tribal of FFIX, and The Mad Hatter of Arkham City.

For OCs, it's my Fallout 3 OC, Roulette. A closet-cannibal, ex-Lamplighter young man.
