A common thing for my characters is that people will slip into a thread with them and fall instantly in love with them. I tend to play very off-putting, mean characters, too, so I never understood why? The first time it happened was when I was rping on an Inuyasha board and a guy (whose character was a basic rip off of a Naruto character) stepped in and began to fight my character out of the blue. My character was particularly known for being good at polearms, and I guess that impressed him? After smacking him into the ground, he suddenly stopped and stared at her, "he was in love." And they were serious.

Like. He was legitimately in love with her and got up and tried to kiss her. I'd like to think it was a joke but... I don't know.

And then there was the girl who, upon her first reply to an open thread of mine, fell instantly in love with my character because of his looks. He was simply sitting in a cafe when she walked up and stared into his eyes and it was a good nine paragraphs of her talking about her love for him in her thoughts and making idle chitchat with him. I didn't even answer her, I just kind of left the forum.

i can understand falling in love with someone's looks.....but for 9 paragraphs? O.o what is this, victorian literature? XD

OMG I absolutely hate it when people try to write as much as you do, only to have them spew crap out! Seriously, I don't care if you can't match my word count, just give me something decent to write with!

On a note to this similarity, I was in a marvel site once. My character is having a fun time in a club and a boy comes into the thread. He's kinda an alien/extremely socially awkward. To the point where after 2-3 posts, I refused to give posts anymore because I couldn't logically put reasons for my character to remain there attempting to talk to pretty much a character that questioned LITERALLY everything I did. Only thing he said was question after question. It was kinda creepy x_X

Well back when we were running our Nolanverse board (aka the more realistic approach to Batman as seen in Batman Begins, TDK, TDKR) we had someone apply for a "realistic" version of Starfire, who was an aloof orange skinned, teenage psycho from Arkham who had retreated to a fantasy world and was somehow running around in a stolen nuclear blasting suit. WTF?

    Oh yeah, some old WTFs.

So a long time ago, back when SotE was very young, we had the following running around on the game, often at the same time, all by different people:

    1.) The cast of Slayers
2.) The cast of Fushigi Yuugi
3.) The members of the Insane Clown Posse
4.) The cast of The Matrix

    And probably others. >_>

I didn't figure this out for a long time. Why? Because I didn't watch much TV or many movies and wasn't up to date with pop culture. (Which is still true--I usually get into shows long after they're popular and am all "OMG GUYS THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!" and people are like, "Yeah, it was amazing 6 years ago...") SO I WAS COMPLETELY CLUELESS.

Then it was pointed out to me, I went "WTF? O__o" and we had a HUGE DRAM BLOW-UP when we made it a rule that "hey guys, this is, y'know...an original medieval high fantasy game, not panfandom, so uh...no canon characters, dudes."

This was in early 2000. xD So yeah, SotE was an uber baby back then, but ohhhhh man, did we have some interesting things happen. Looking back on the old boards, it's like it was a completely different game. o___o

I think the instantly in love plots are hysterical and awesome esp when you don't know each other ooc. I have to add one.

My rp bf was always getting stalked. It led to my charrie keeping a baseball bat under the bar she was running lol.

One of the stalkers, when we were still school age charries, asked to rp a thread with him. He was ok with it, though a little wary, but they had just met and he didn't want to be unfriendly. She tells him randomly that she has leukemia and wants to just spend whatever time is left with him. After he posted that he was sorry to hear that and ran back to the castle he freaked out and logged out. We had a good laugh on aim on that one. A week later she was posting again, found a new guy to stalk and had been magically cured. Yes. MAGICALLY CURED. (it WAS a harry potter site, but I didn't know they treated muggle illnesses in wizards >.< )

The admins on one site I was on made an announcement saying that one person playing two family members in the same family was clique-ish. They allowed those who already existed to remain as they were, but they could not have any threads together ever (even if they were one-shots where you didn't post back and forth to yourself and just wrote it almost as a short story).

Mind you, I was about the ONLY person on this site that played both siblings in a family. I felt kind of targeted.

And each sibling had four threads with different characters. They had only one thread where they were talking to each other for plot purposes. So, yes, a grand total of nine threads where eight were with different characters. I felt kind of wrongly targeted.

The admins also only roleplayed with each other and tended to ignore anyone else that went to them for threads. You know, that isn't clique-ish at all. I felt kind of wrongly targeted by hypocrites.

It took a long time for me to recover enough to feel comfortable playing characters in the same family again.

What the heck Tarot? I've been playing siblings since I started RPing. OH NOES! I'M IN A CLIQUE WITH MYSELF!! :D

Another WTF moment, I had some people once who said they were two people but I'm not really sure. Anyway all they seemed to want to do was play out this huge plot between them and one other member while they hogged canons and then tried to steal the spotlight from the canons they didn't have (even though they could have easily nabbed some of that team since they were open for a bit after they joined). My mod and I were pretty much convinced they had pages and pages worth of story some where on their computer that they were just waiting to post all at once so no one else could butt in. It was seriously like they were trying to run a whole alternate plot to the site wide one, that they wanted to be as big but with only three people while at the same time they forced their characters into a piece of the main plot that was specific for a site canon team. It was bizarre.

My girl had just gotten done with a photoshoot, got in her car, and began to drive through the streets of NYC. She was on her way to get some dinner. I leave the topic open for a response.

Apparently it's perfectly fine to temporary control my character by having her crash into the back of her car, making the impact seem like she's going 70 instead of typical NYC traffic speed.

    .....Yea, no.

This happened later on, on a different rp
I start up a topic, I clearly state that it's somewhat late morning, being around 9 o clock or so.
Person that joins the thread says its around sunrise time >___> Mind you, this is in Miami, FL, so the sunrise time is typically between 5:45-7:00 AM....so......

    This just happened to me:
I'm on an old-era japan site. We sit down at a restaurant, I order sake and a bowl of rice. He orders a bud lite and cheese sticks. This is no fantasy involved site. W.T.F.

Another new thing that just happened:
I had a character that had superpowers. She could transform into a horse. So this girl and guy were playing in the meadow, next thing i know, he's trying to make out with. She's thrashing about and kicking at him, trying to get him off of her. He writes "The force from her kick as so strong that it kicked him off of her, and when he looked up, she was gone"
........So apparently I'm now a teleporter?

I just remember this one earlier today. Same board as one that I posted about earlier. X-Men board, guy comes along and asks if he could apply as Colossus. Colossus is open, so sure. He asks if its okay if he plays him similar to Ultimate Comics Colossus rather than normal Marvel canon. Since our board is not explicitly based on any one X-men continuity, we say okay. Now for those who don't know their Marvel universes, in mainstream Marvel, Colossus is straight, in Ultimate Comics, he's gay.

Guy goes through the application process, gets approved fairly quickly because his app doesn't ring any bells. Very first post from him is Colossus crying to himself in the schoolyard because Cyclops and Wolverine were being mean gay-bashing bullies to him. Without ever contacting our Cyclops or our Wolverine players.

When the player was confronted about this, he (or she, I guess) said that this was how he wanted to play Colossus and write about gay-bashing. Heated arguments exchanged, and Colossus player banned shortly thereafter.

So apparently .50 caliber handguns are in use by the US Military. And a Desert Eagle .50 ACP has zero recoil whatsoever... Yeah. Whenever I look through a site, and I look through the apps, and I see some 'bad ass' character with dual wielding those pistols... Yeah, I X out. If I join a site with guns, I don't want them to follow video game physics. You don't have to know everyone your character does, but that's impossible or at least very hard and not worth the effort at all, the same way having a sword that weighs 80 pounds is useless, which is another one.

Speaking of 80 pound swords, whenever I bring up to a new member on any board I'm on, or I make the mistake of joining one out of impulse, and point out mistakes like that, their response is invariably: 'This is a fantasy site.'

So conversations sometimes go like this:

Other guy in post: So I have 1,000 people circle your castle, like completely circled around so I have you surrounded.

Me: The sentries up on the battlements sip tea because there are no siege weapons around and the people outside are causing no harm. The king is having a fancy dinner party inside.

Other guy in post: My guys smash open the gates with a catapult.

    Me(OOC): With what?

    Other guy(OOC): The siege weapons.

Me(OOC): It's wet season. It's raining and there's mud everywhere, and to top it all off we're on the highlands. It'd be impossible to move heavy enough stuff up there, and it wasn't mentioned in the first post. Furthermore, sieges IRL last months, years even. The castle has no cracks or anything on it, and a catapult wouldn't be able to take down a well made gate even if you had infinite ammo and robots manning it for quite a while. It'd only make a lot of noise and cause the wife to yell a lot.

Other guy(OOC): It's a fantasy site. I don't want to wait here for months or years.

    Me(OOC): /craiface

Another moment in RP, well on an RP SITE was so weird I don't even know. It went something like this, it was a royalty site which focused on inter-family conflict in the kingdom:

Me: Oh cool nice site! I have so much feels!
Admin: That's awesome ^^ Lemme know if you need anything.

-So I write an app, asking questions all along the way and the admin is fine with everything.-

    Me: Okay, app's done.
Admin: I'm sorry but you have to take a canon to be part of a family IC.
Me: But... You just said I could.
Admin: I'm sorry, but you have to change it.
Me: You just said five minutes ago PCs outside the families will get like no RP opportunities.
Admin: Well, then take a canon.
Me: Of the house I wanted, there are no canons available.
Admin: Well, it's a small family.
Me: There are two people in it.
    Admin: Just pick another house.
Me: All the canons are 60+ or pampered rich kids too young. I kinda just wanted to play a knight affiliated with a house...
Admin: I'm sorry, but you have to take a canon.
Me: But... I asked you the entire time about the app process...
Member1: Why are you being so unreasonable? This is COLLABORATIVE STORYTELLING, and if you're not willing to compromise, then you should just leave.
Me: ;_; ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS PLAY A KNIGHT!

Okay I did just have a wtf rpg related moment the other day. On our rpg wiki someone threw up a couple of posts that have nothing whatsoever to do with our RPG. I was like wut? Kind of random but not that big a deal. I just simply deleted them.

But it did have me scratching my head as to why someone would just make random entries in a wiki they'd happened to stumble across. Internet weirdness.

When I had a pre-FFVII SOLDIER game based on the premise of Junon built for the Wutai war, I had an RPer try to join with a Wutainese female soldier. Who, on top of being from Wutai, in an anti-Wutai military base, wore the traditional garb which included a parasol, the dress, hair combs and everything else but the kitchen sink.

The sh!tstorm she created when myself and my co-mod flatly turned her application down, politely.

Ditto on the accuracy thing with weapons and armory. It isn't hard to do some quick research on them, but people are still allergic to Google.

This is just a bizarre coupling but I once saw a TAPS ghost hunting rp, they paired up steve and tango...........I can never watch that show again because of all the yaoi rp i read between the two of them x_X I'm all for yaoi, but just NO for that couple....

    Another I remembered:
    I was on a mafia site and my character was pretty much a 'mafia princess.' Well, she had history with a cop, before he knew that she was apart of the mafia. Anyway, the two always had huge sparks of attraction for each other. One thing leads to the other, and the two end up smutting on her bed. They don't know that her big dobermen, Contessa is in the room. Well, they're doing their thing and the next thing they hear is the creepy puppet laugh you often hearin saw from Billy the puppet. Contessa was chewing on a doll my girl had that made the laugh :3 The reaction was soooooooooooooooo funny xD;

My first board that I owned was a medieval fantasy site and someone applied with a goth character that rode around on a skateboard that he had whittled by hand. I kid you not. Keep in mind that the board I previously owned was set in a 1300's-like era and people generally rode horses or walked. Also, the streets weren't paved so he was going to have a heck of a time staying on that skateboard.

I also once joined a site a long while ago (back when I was a youngin') and within five minutes of me being accepted, another member PM'd me and told me that the admins were horrible and I should leave immediately OR I could join her in her crusade against the admins and against their horrible rping skills. The person was dead serious, even giving me her IM name so that I could contact her and we could talk strategy because she thought I was too good to stoop to their level and needed to join her side. I sent her back a PM asking her if she really meant that or if she was speaking as in plotting our characters against the admins characters for some scandalous plotting. She was totally serious about it and then sent me copies of her conversations with the admins where they had "abused" her by telling her to stop sending these sort of messages to new members or they'd ban her. Needless to say...um...I left that place and never went back.

The gun stuff from above reminded me...

In a Stargate roleplay, my char and the group she is with end up in battle. My char is a healer and has never touched a gun, let alone used one. She does have a zatnik'atel (an alien long ranged weapon). In the middle of the battle another character throws a gun at her and tells her to use that instead. When she refuses, he starts arguing with her.

okay, years ago...there was this character....who made me laugh. A Charmed site way back in the day when it was still in production...

Basic 411: No hybrids of a specific species were allowed - whitelighter/witchor elder/witch due to the fact the magical law states it's forbidden...actual show law and site law. they never crossed the species pre the Halliwells so the rule was a basic obvious one.The other was future travellers messed up the timeline so nobody could be from the past or the future as a permanent character. Elders also are not meant to leave the 'heaven' area and are pacifists so they don't fight the good and evil wars.

The resulting character of the 'wtf variety' was....an Elder/witch/oracle, unlimited magical powers, came from the future because the Halliwell's sucked in the future and she was their saviour. She was meant to basically kick the evil ass despite being a pacifist, teenager, and the most powerful witches of all time were incapable of handling a fight they canonically won in the show.

    - brow quirk - let's say...the staff did not approve that bio.

The moment that left me sitting in front of my screen with that expression of wtf just happened was while in a thread with another player, the two characters were standing out in the middle of the street in broad daylight amidst a pile of broken and bloodied bodies. They hadn't moved from that spot and there was no hinting that they should leave, but the next thing I know; they are no longer standing in the middle of the street but are inside of a safe house. Now they are still in the same city mind you, but it's suddenly nighttime! There was no mention of portals opening or the use of teleportation so I was left sitting there thinking how in the feck did we get here and how is it suddenly nighttime?
