What do you call a carbonated soft drink?
Are you very passionate about your word being the 'correct' one?

I'm from Colorado and 99% of people I know call it pop. And you're wrong if you call it something else. I will knife you for calling it soda, worse if you call it coke.

Ha, I live in Colorado and call it 'coke'.
But then again, I wasn't actually born in Colorado.

See, I'm a native. Even my parents have adopted "pop" for things like Pepsi, "soda" for club soda/sparkling water. They're from Oklahoma.

Native Californian here. But spent most of my childhood in Texas.
And my favorite kind of 'coke' is a toss-up between Coca-cola and A&W Cream Soda.. which should be called Cream coke!

I'm Australian, so I call it 'soft drink'. Nothing else. It's 'soft drink', or the specific brand name.

This thing varies so wildly. xD

Same, unless it's coke. Then it's called coke.

LOL, yes. I'd actually been thinking of mentioning that but I was like 'naaah, Coke doesn't get special treatment'. But really, it does. >__>

    Coke isn't soft drink. It's Coke. :|

I'm English (from East Anglia... it totally matters whereabouts in the country you are as to what you call stuff) and I call it a 'fizzy drink'. It's fizzy and it's drink, so... fizzy drink. That, or I'll just call it by it's brand name or whatever - 'Tango', 'Fanta', 'Coke', ('Pepsi' gets called 'Coke'), 'Lemonade', etc.

But if I were to use the 'correct' one, it'd be 'evil-stuff-that-makes-my-stomach-go-owie'. I like being literal in my naming.

    Canadians call it 'pop'.

Edit: Or just the name of the drink. Sprite, Coke, Orange Crush, etc. I don't get how people would call a pop that wasn't coke, Coke. I mean, wouldn't that get confusing? xD

I call it both soda, and pop. My mom is from New Jersey, but I live in Michigan, so I switch between the two. She's the only one who drinks soda in at my house, so that's basically why it's 'soda' most of the time, though. Oh, but in my house, Pepsi is always Pepsi and Faygo is always Faygo (it's an actual thing people drink here, not an ICP only thing, yuck, and it's always 'Faygo' as a warning because that stuff makes me sick). Coke falls under the general 'soda'.

From Seattle, and we mostly call it soda, although sometimes we'll call it pop. As kids, most of my cousins called it "pop."

I don't like the coke version, though. Because working in a hotel, I always have the following conversation:

Them: And I'll have a coke.
    Me: Okay! Be right up--
Them: Aren't you going to ask me what kind of coke?
Me: ... We... We only have one kind of Coke.
    Them: WHAT?! Are you serious?!
    Me: Just Coca-Cola brand...
    Them: You don't have Sprite?
    Me: Oh! Yes. OH. Oh.

Verbally, I call it 'softdrink' cause that's what its called here. Mentally and on paper, I think and write 'soda'.

I used to call it soda, but after being an exchange student in Ohio, I now switch back and forth between soda and pop.

I was born and raised in South Carolina until about 12, and then lived in Texas until I was 20.

I say 'soda' for everything except Coca-Cola. Coke is Coke.
