~Some names and genders have been changed to protect identity~

I'm having a......trouble some member on a site I'm apart of staff of. Let's say this is a small town site. Player A has made 3 characters within the 1st 2 weeks of joining. 2 of which have been revoked. Character !@# because they weren't able to correctly play the canon. Character $%^& because they taking a character's wanted character like a joke.

Player A has only had 2 topics on the site. One of which was an almost-rape thread. the 2nd thread was sex. Now, Player A has made a new character. this new character (let's call him Dave) is a COMPLETE gary sue. Absolutely no character flaws, history is pretty much 'perfect childhood, member of family raped child, child ran away, mutation showed up, now living on streets and has casuakl sex' their ability is "the ability to spark up sexual attraction, no matter the sexual orientation". to top it off, Player A has put txt-vernacular in the app, like "lol".

.....How the hell am I supposed to take this person seriously? Their posts have had several spelling errors in the past, and they admitted to playing a canon previously "half-ass'dly" as they put it, causing the canon to be revoked on the spot. This person tries, but honestly, this "trying" seems like a big facade to me. They're coming to the site, just to get cyberally laid (as it looks at this point, from Dave and the previous characters). Myself and the other staff people on the site have noticed the pattern and are sick of dealing with Player A. We've talked about banning him, despite how he's broken no rule on the site. The staff and I made the site with the intention of creating stories, not being an rp-dating genre. We're far from it. However, Player A is not taking any of this seriously.

    Advice?

Question: How did this app get accepted?

Also, treating someone's want ad like a joke would seem like a pretty clear violation of a "respect" rule.

Keep true to your rules, hon. Give him critique on his app and have him edit. Also, I know I'm assuming it's a guy, lol.

Sounds like a troll. Mutation is making people attracted to her? REALLY? I'd like to believe this was a troll more than a serious attempt.

If you aren't self-hosting, you could always say their predilection towards sex might be placing you at risk of violating the boards TOS?

Well this person dropped the app, saying "We were never going to accept he ranyways" when in reality we gave plenty of suggestions to tone them down :1

If this person tries to have another sex thread or continues to act the way they are, i think we're going to ban, just for the sake of sanity for the site, and to keep a happy atmosphere on the site for everyone.

Tell 'em to knock it off or they'll get banned. If they don't knock it off, ~guess what'll happen~

At the end of the day this is your board, your home.
You can't be having much fun chasing this member around and cleaning up after him. He's already made things uncomfortable with his sex threads, he's depleted another member's interest in the board by not taking their wanted character seriously, and now he thinks that all beings should bow down to his new sex god character and would rather drop the character than make edits.

I would give him a PM. A very strict, but nicely worded, "you're being a big buzz kill and nobody likes you being here with the way you're acting. Shape up or we're going to have to insist that you leave."

Just because he hasn't broken any rules doesn't mean he isn't detrimental to your board.
Now I'm not saying that all cases should be handled like this but this isn't a simple "I don't like him or his characters" kind of thing, this is a very special case. Your members have been turned off by him, you have been turned off by him and your staff has been turned off by him if you guys are talking about the possibility of banning him.

I would give him a very blunt warning and a second, strictly monitored, chance.

Really, all you need to do is pm him with a "We don't think this site is a good fit for you. We wish you luck in finding a site more suited to your roleplay needs. Bye." He'll either leave, or pull something and then you can ban him.

Btw, he sounds like a troll to me. Do you have a "no troll" rule? You can ban him for that. Even if he protests he's not a troll, he is, in fact, trolling.

    This, so much.

From what you've said [I'm assuming this is the same person as the other thread due to the mention of the wanted ad character] he's been a complete troll. He's not taking you, your site, or your members seriously. He's actually making it unpleasant onsite. This is toxic for a game, and even if he's not broken any /written/ rules, there are some things that would still warrant a ban - or at least a strongly worded warning.

I'm also going to assume that the board in question is the one in your sig - correct me if I'm wrong. Jcink's TOS makes sexual situations a bit iffy unless they are fade to black. The fact that he seems to be making characters specifically for sex and tried to get a character who's power is based around that could lead to some problematic threads. I know he dropped that character, but in my experience players of this type will continue to try to sneak sexual things past you or add them in to the character later, even if it's not in the application.

Bottom line? He's making you, staff, and likely members uncomfortable. He's posting content that might cross the line for your TOS, it sounds like, and all it takes is one disgruntled ex-member or a troll reporting a thread like that to get you in trouble. Synlah hit the nail on the head with the suggestion of just telling him the site's not a good fit for him. Show him the door nicely, then if he won't leave, swing the banhammer.

Like everyone else has said, if he's a drain on yours and your member’s enthusiasm for the site, you have the right to ask him to move on. It is your site, you make the rules and you do have the right to alter those rules or bypass them when you have a good reason. Someone can troll your forum without breaking any of the written rules but that doesn't mean you have to put up with it. Your job is to maintain the happiness of your members, if one bad seed is ruining that atmosphere, you can (and you probably should) get rid of that member so as not to lose all your members or kill the site. It isn't as though you are doing this because you just don't like the character or the members, as someone else mentioned. You have a valid reason for it.
If he causes a fuss you can ban him then but I think a simple PM like others has suggested could work.

OhMerlin, I love your last sig pic xD (i need to add that to some forums i'm on).

I'm about to approve his next character, because information wise, there's nothing wrong with it. I think I'm going to give him one more topic as a chance to redeem himself. If it falls through, he's gone.

    Yeahhh...fix your rules. Don't ban someone if they haven't broken a rule. ;shrug;

Websites that do that give me the chills. I avoid them like the plague. It's bad admining to ban for a reason that is NOT listed in the rules.

On a normal basis I agree it is really bad practice, but behaviour that deliberately disrupts other members and a person who openly admits to doing things 'half arsed' doesn't sound like somebody who wants to be on the site anyway. I'd personally never tell anyone to ban a member who hasn't done anything against the rules, but this person is driving other members away. To me this breaks the respect rule anyway.

That said, I always think ban is a last option anyway. I think he needs to be asked politely to move on. But I do see your point, some sites really do abuse the rule system and change rules or overlook them when it suits, those sites should be avoided but when someone is doing it for the good of the site and has a very valid reason, I'm not so sure it's a bad thing.

But I like that rule @Kesra. I have on my game a 'common sense rule':
Basically meaning, if I haven't told you it's not acceptable to cyber stalk someone, doesn't mean it's allowed.

@caliopemac. It is Morrigan! YES. Thank you. I stole the sig thiny from Morrigan. :)

This person did break a rule. He broke the living room rule. "anything that I wouldn't allow in my own living room, I won't allow on my site." You don't need an excuse to uphold common courtesy and common sense. Specifically you don't need extra rules for it. You can simply demand that players behave with commons sense.

That said, I do want to raise one minor issue which is that I've always seen such swift judgement of people and how they roleplay. Treat others as you'd like to be treated is a big one in RP.
