Name of Board: Tales from the Crypt Link to Board: Tales from the Crypt Short description of Board: A modern horror rp based loosely on the classic horror movies, that takes a darker and more modernized version of classic monsters and mixes it with just a smidgeon of old school camp you'd expect from Elvira, Cryptkeeper and the classic horror movie hosts. Analysis Notes: Look at as much or as little as you want, post your questions, suggestions, ideas and complaints and ultimately tell me whether or not an idea like this can work and if the site is even worth opening in the first place. Also keep in mind the site is not 100% finished, we still have to put up a c-box, affiliate stuff, an ad, etc. Link to profile on the Board: Gemini
Just some thoughts to share. Remember that my suggestions for change are just based on my humble opinion, Readability - For starters get more contrast between the background colour and the font colour. Also consider a larger font size. I shouldn’t be squinting at the screen to read your site. Darkness of skin – I’m not a dark skin hater, but all the black and grey doesn’t flow for me, especially as it clashes with some of the rather bright adverts in the sidebar. Perhaps a happy medium? Or have some light areas for the actual writing and have that white/light with black letters? Some might think the green rather glaring but I found that fitting with the theme. OOC forums – you really want your IC forums to be the focus of your game. Put as many OOC forums below the IC area as you can. That means probably only leaving the newbie guide up on top. Too many forums – Locations do not have to equal forums. Try to limit yourself to 5 forums. You can have as many locations as you want in each forum by describing them in a sticky topic. Remember though that you’ll have more fun if players are not stretched to wide. Have only one of each unique location, so one tavern, one supermarket etc. It will ensure people bumping into each other more easily. Expand on your forum as needs be. Rule of thumb: 10 active topics per forum hints at the need of extra ones. Post up a storm – Activity begets activity, so even before you open, don’t hesitate to provide IC content that potential new players feel inspired by. Rules – give it a final look over. There are some spaces missing here and there. You might want to read up on the D in regards to what rules everybody has. Is an activity check something that works for instance? Justify – your text sometimes jumps out with a word at the end of the sentence instead of making neat rows of it all. Have you justified the paragraphs? Application – why do you have two different ones? Do you have a preference? Is there a vision on providing both? All in all I can see this forum, with some adaptations, thrive, so don't fear to take the leap. Old fashioned horror might be quite fun to engage in. Hope this helps!
I'll see what I can do, I'm exactly an expert on coding, in fact I'm lucky to have gotten this far on my own, lol. But I'll play around with the skin and see if I can improve everything. Only thing I can't promise is the IC forum thing, it kind of plays into my imagineer philosophy in world building and gives people a sense of some of the eerie locales and attractions this town has to offer. And from experience I can tell if you get too general or vague, people can get pretty creative...and not in a good way, lol. Anyway thanks for the advice, I'll see what I can do and determine whether or not the site is worth opening. Until then, still open to comments and suggestions. ^ ^
Glad I was of some help. You are free to use it or discard it as you see fit Actually, I didn't said be more vague. I don't recommend that either. My location descriptions are usually 2 paragraphs minium with historic picture for maximum vizualization and all my games always have had huge wikis because so many aspects were in fact designed at some point or other. However, you don't need as many forums as there are locations. It will just be eating space and create the impression your game is empty. Instead my suggestion was to group locations together in one forum. E.a. if you were a hogwarts site you'd have hogwarts, the town, the lake, the woods and no more... then in the hogwarts forum you'd detail all the different towers, the various rooms, the bathrooms etc. etc. You would just need a different way of making the locations known. Alternatively you can subforum the different locations, but that still gives a very empty impression.
Alright was able to fix some of the text and still working on the coding, but other than that anyone mind giving me feed back on the rp itself? Plot, setting, informational topics, etc.
