The Senate version still needs to be killed. If they ram it through one chamber, they can still use procedural measures to get it passed in the house without a vote I believe. (Don't quote me on this. It's just from what I remember about an omnibus bill a few years ago.) Better safe than sorry.

Now to stop censoring of the internet here in the netherlands, BREIN is trying to get ISP's here to censor the piratebay, they won the case but the ISP's in question went in to appeal :p Great to hear SOPA was shelved though, seemed like an awful bill to be placed.

Well. That didn't take long. Congress lied. The 21st district rep from Texas, Lamar Smith http://lamarsmith.house.gov/ has decided to bring it back. His representative district is the wealthier areas of San Antonio and Austin. Republican Representative. He pulled it off the shelf (it was his bill to start with) and is trying to shove it through once again.

Maybe this time some of the other bigger sites will join in with a black-out? Really get the message out there.

It's dead again. Both are, apparently. Now they're on to something called the OPEN Act.

Yeah, they started on what looks like a re-writing. Not to mention that the FBI didn't even need SOPA and PIPA in order to take down Megaupload.

It hosted pirate content that people put up there, as well as illegal content. People can zip files up and pretend it's something other than what it is and megaupload can't tell what it is e.g. pretending a file of kid porn is The Dark Knight.

Megaupload was an upload site like rapidshare, mediafire, or any number of other places that you use for backing up or transporting files. A lot of piracy went on there, but it wasn't the site's purpose.

Chimarvami put a very unnecessarily negative charge on her post.
