This is not meant to mean or snarky or anything like that, but.... *points to the banner in your siggy* Wouldn't that technically be considered a trend?
I think the reason a lot of people are going from If to Jcink is because Jcink is insanely secure, with the right options ticked. Also, there's a lot more features than IF comes with. With IF, you need 10x more coding to get half the features Jcink comes with, naturally. Also, Jcink has very friendly staff. If your having coding/skinning/issues with the board, they respond within 48 hours
I never said there was anything WRONG with well populated RP's. I simply answered a question as to what is the definition of a "Trend RP" in my opinion. "Overpopulation" of course, usually ends up being a problem in any case, by definition. Otherwise "over" would not be a prefix. Not taking you as snarky much really. Maybe a little but it's allowed I'm not sure you could really compare the boom of True Blood RPG's to that of Harry Potter or Twilight ones, but yeah, I suppose True Blood could be considered a "Trend RP" to some degree. Which is fine. I never said there was anything WRONG with "Trend RP's", just that I was cautious of them. I have actually played at a few of them, and even admin'd one or two myself. the majority of those experiences were not the best I have had in RP, however. Further note: Sin Before Sunruse has long been offline. Sig will be changed once my new forum is up and running...and that is NOT a "Trend RP" but instead orig concept. Just saying.
True blood has always been around, I think they're talking more about "movies of the moment" Like Avengers has a HUGE increase at the moment. Avatar went through this (now I like never see one), Inception went through one (once again, haven't seen this kind of rp in a LONG time), twilight did (there's still some twilight sites, not nearly as much as there were before), and HG is going through it. There were only a few HG rps BEFORE the movies. I'm not sure how long the HG trend will last though. Very fun to play, but a HUGE pain in the butt to start (unless you make it A/U and cut down the number of districts). Here's something I've noticed. Nice, scrollable boards, but with a static sidebar on the left or right side of the board. I don't mind this style, but if I find myself using it, I often have to put a table on the top of my board as well so I can get all the 'needed' info out of the way (staff, links, cbox, things of the sort).
Here's something I've noticed. A lot of people like a small box for info either in the left or right side of the site and use tabs for information. I'd LOVE to see that code posted somewhere (box/tabs). I could really use it..... T_T
Definitely! Though I'd say that designers as a whole are designing for multiple formats. I also agree that more sites are using javascript and jquery. I see a lot of tabbed infoboxes about, especially in combination with a fixed sidebar.
Yep! And that's a trend I am all for. Being able to RP while I'm out and about from my phone? Awesome.
Here's another one that im not a fan of. Making the site banner unclickable. It's just a peeve of mine, personally, but it is slightly irritating....
One trend I noticed is that almost everything is considered a trend, regardless of whether it is or isn't. XD
One positive I've noticed is an overall improvement in writing quality. Board styles and genres will always be cyclical. One of my major loves is Star Wars but it ebbs and flows with the latest film or video game. Writing trends seem to have steadily imrpoved. Now, that said, there are also a greater number of sites with....oh how to say it politely....minimalist word counts and pointless stories, but this is to be expected with the continued growth of online RP.
funny I was just thinking the trend where people equated quantity with quality was finally ending... Shame.
Don't misinterpret my statement to say their can't be or is not quality in few words, I am merely stating that there is an increase in boards that are not of high quality that is keeping pace with the improvement in quality writing as well. I did not state that the improvement in writing meant LONGER posts.
WE ARE AGAIN MORTAL ENEMIES. I hate when site banners are clickable because I always accidentally click them and get carried away from where I wanted to be. :[
I sawwy meta D: If you have firefox/chrome (i don't know if safari/opera can do this) and accidentally click the banner while your writing up a post, you can click back and it'll all be there.
-sits in a corner rocking back and forth- vampires... everywhere... sparkly... prettyboy... vampires...
Here's one thing I'm starting to notice with the banners. Some banners are starting to have a "3-D" type effect to them. Like, those red/blue lines somewhat blurred to give the 3-D type effect. This is all fine and dandy EXCEPT for those that have sensitive-eyes to that kind of effect (me being one of them). If I look for more then 2 seconds, I get a major headache on that type of banner. Also This~ Anime/manga sites tend to be on proboards real life faceclaims/playbys tend to be on invisionfree/jcink. I'm not a fan of the trend, because honestly, the anime/manga sites tend to have not as strong writers (from my own experience). Now, however, the anime/manga site writing quality has vastly improved since my time on it (that or my usual group of friends were crappy writers haha no insult to them, just speaking the truth).
(bumping this thread out of the gutter) Overcrowding your homepage with a LOT of graphics. I don't mind some graphic fluff but when there's a lot going on in the graphics or it just looks crowded, it's time to tone them down x_X It's hell for people with very slow connections
