The announcement tool is one of the best things about the Proboards administrating, aside from ease of skinning, and such. The other pluses to Proboards are not going to be highlighted in this documentation.

However, there are some things that do not belong on the Announcement across all boards list. This documentation will help you sort out what belongs in the announcement list, and what needs to be linked in a side bar or left in its forum.

Belongs in the Announcements Across All Boards:
-Rule Changes - Any additions or omissions from the rules should be announced to the members.
-Plot Additions/full site plots - Your members need to be kept up to date with something huge happening with the plot.
-Activity Checks - Don't hide them, please? Even the active members can miss them, occasionally if you aren't bold about placing them.
-Anything New that effects site wide (other than IC events)

Does Not Belong as a Site Wide Announcement:
-The Rules - The rules should be easy to find, maybe even put into the side bar. They should be in one of the first forums you see at the top of the board. However, they don't need to be shoved up the nose of your members every time they look at a category.
-The Plot - By all means, put your plot in the forum with the rules, and if you have one put it in your side bar or table. Make it easy to get to for reference. However, it will only clutter up the announcement list, if you make it a board-wide announcement.
-Canon List - Put it in your character board, the people who are looking to make a character will look there. By all means, sticky it with your bio code.
-Bio Code - Again, put it in the character board and sticky it. I learned the hard way not to put it in the rules section with the plot. Making it an announcement on the other hand, puts it in the way while people look for the more important stuff.

In closing, if you, as a member would seek it out and read it before joining, or just after joining or making a character, it probably doesn't belong as a site wide announcement. Your members will probably seek out most of the same threads. If you want to make finding them easier, make an important topics list somewhere, be it in a side bar or at the bottom of your rules.
