Hello, I'm here to tell you about a wonderful site called the Outsiders. We are a mature-rated, literature personified Dr. Seuss site, where many of Seuss' beloved characters are living "average" lives within the small Maryland town of Diddville. We are currently accepting both Canon & Original Characters. We have a word count of at least 300 (though we usually do 500+), and are a very laid back community. You can play anything from a humanized Horton the Elephant to a Truffula tree.

The Staff

Forsilvra might be right for you! We are a court/nobility game set in an original medieval world that focuses on politics and intrigue. Plots and counter-plots are the main focus of our game, with romance and 'shipping' as side stories that characters do have, based on more on player. Marriages are arranged for political reasons, not romance. (But of course, the development of those relationships is still important in the game!)

Right now, our characters are leaving the capital after an assassination attempt on the king. One province is about to break out in war, and another will have some cities declare themselves independent after the lord there makes a decision they don't like. In this, we'll have a marriage made to get a potential over throw out of the way, and another province is stirring an uprising of some of the less civilized people.

The game is fast, with posts all the time, ever day, upward of 50+. We have 30+ active members, most of who drive their own plots and help our new players get in immediately. We are rated M 3-3-3, for all goes, with no word count. We do have an activity requirement of 5 posts/month/perminor character (which most are in this category). We also have some important roles opening up if you're looking for a good challenge and interaction.

Hey Anglachel. Scapes is a brand new original modern fantasy centered around a sudden spread of telepathic powers. We're moderate-advanced, but don't have a word count, rather focusing on writing and character development. We do have one character who is looking for a romance plot, but other than that, it's hard to focus on love when you've got the Guild to look out for. We also feature customizable powers and the infinite possibilities of the Dreamscape. I hope you'll give us a look :D

Telepathic powers were nothing new to the world, however, as telepaths have existed throughout history keeping their powers hidden. Telepaths have always lived quietly among the people, some keeping their powers subtle, others not so much, but attributed accomplishments to natural talents in persuasion, leadership skills, charisma, etc., but with the Guild's announcement, they had been thrown into the spotlight for the first time.

But this wasn't the end of their troubles, and it was the least of their problems. Soon after, people all over the world began experiencing strange dreams of "shadow people" and developing telepathic powers themselves. The telepathic population was beginning to skyrocket as regular people began gaining these powers. Not only that, but with the increase of telepath activity, the Guild has been gearing up to invest on the opportunity to take in more test subjects...

Hi, I would like to invite you to check out The Menagerie.

We are a High Fantasy role playing community that is actally a game, rather than just free writing. We employ a very simple, learn-as-you-play system that lends some structure and prevents god modding and allows character growth. No complex stats, though we do have gold, loot, equipment as well as magic and John Woo style fighting action and so on! Just a hint of process addiction to give you some personal goals to compliment awesome story lines.

Your character is your creation within simple guidelines, create something all original. Classes don't exist (they don't in real life), but you can build an archetypal character through the use of our Talent system. We have some factions in our world, so your character can belong to something greater than themselves as well, if they like.

Our collection of players are all mature, creative writers and we enjoy being friends. We have been about for almost ten years and through some five incarnations. We feel the current one is the best so far, doing away with complicated mess and focussing on fun.

We don't bother with word counts. Both style and substance count for something. We all enjoy incredible, articulate posts, but sometimes those one liners hit the mark.

Our world is all original and you needn't feel intimidated by huge, over arching sit plots. Many of our players form writing partnerships and run multiple threads at once - we just want you having fun!

So we are a new forum, but I think it could be what you are looking for. While people are free to pursue romantic storylines, it's definitely not the intent or focus of our board which is a post-apocalyptic rpg. All of the ideas we have for boardwide events in the future are definitely non-romance related. Here is the ad:

The man stood by the river, staring out into the water as the boy flailed in the rapids. The boy screamed out for help and then sunk beneath the water again. The man turned, prepared to walk off into the forest, but then the boy bobbed up in the waves again, clutching at a rock. He stared for a moment more, waiting to see if the boy would drown. The boy was pulled under the water again.

The man began to walk away when the boy reached the surface once more releasing one last scream for help. He sighed, set down his bag and dove into the water, swimming for the boy. For a moment, neither the man nor the boy was visible beneath the water. Then the white bubbles turned red. A body floated to the surface, catching on rocks every so often before disappearing into the current.

A moment later, he flopped onto the floor next to the bags. Climbing to his feet, he reached down and sorted through the gear. Satisfied with the find, the boy lifted up the bags and walked away.

The year is… well no one really knows. Year 104 by the count, but that’s just when people cared enough to count again. It seems that at first, no one thought anyone would survive. We don’t know much, but we know there was a Before Time. We know they lived in giant cities, filled with more people than you could even imagine and built buildings in an effort to reach the sun. Victorian England is a world full of hypocritical secrecy and repression. Objects or persons considered inappropriate or unconventional is politely yet firmly ostracized. Three years ago, the presence of wizarding families was discovered. The Muggles of London forced those who could wield magic to go into exile. They were not accepted at social functions, they were fired from their jobs, some were aggressively chased out of town.

Slowly, the fugitives began to filter into the village of Hogsmeade- located outside of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Houses were built and refurnished, business created and reestablished, and the wizarding families created a society of their own. Even in their openly magic society, the rules of etiquette are strictly observed. It is a society of secrecy, repression, and magic built on a tenuous foundation of shifting beliefs and hypocrisy that makes one wonder whether or not anyone can find their place.

Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set in the village of Hogsmeade and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We have upper, middle and lower class characters as well as a few non-humans including: Centaurs, Goblins, House-Elves, Merfolk, Ghosts and Vampires. Our storyline is constantly being developed by the players and characters.

We're a very alternate universe harry potter site set in the trio's sixth year that has been alive and strong for more than six months. What makes our site so au is the fact that our plot revolves around the idea of Tom Riddle Jr. having been born later, so he's the same age as the trio. We've got several inclusive site-wide sub-plots that are always looking for volunteers, and none of our main plots are ship-focused. I actually started the site in the first place because I couldn't find a good site that wasn't completely ship-focused as far as plots go. It's the year 2017. Voldemort was defeated in the final battle 19 years ago. Harry Potter and the rest of the gang are sending or have sent their kids to Hogwarts where Minerva McGonagall continues to lead as Head Mistress. Kingsley Shacklebolt is the Minister of Magic and has put the Ministry back on it's feet. All seems well in the wizarding world.

However there are whispers of a dark power returning. An unknown man causing trouble here and there. It's nothing big yet and no-one can figure out who he is but even after 19 years, people still have faint worries of Voldemort returning. Fear is slowly starting to creep back into the minds of those who thought they were safe and Kingsley is trying his hardest to hunt down the trouble-maker and get on top of the situation.

Everyone knows that history always repeats itself...

We're a new site with a handful of active members who are all very welcoming and we'd love to have some more people to meet and characters to plot with!

Well I may have a site that might catch your interest. Tales from the Crypt is an old school horror rp in the tradition of the Munsters, but with darker undertones and themes. Basically it's all your favorite movie monsters (Dracula, the wolfman, the creature from the black lagoon,etc.) trying to survive in a modern world, where reanimating the dead is still the kind of thing that's frowned upon and blood lust cannot be as easily satisfied without arousing suspicion.

In terms of our characters, although shipping is allowed we're not dependent on it. Like the movies, we depend on plots, setting and our characters to tell a great story and make a mythology uniquely our own, with plenty of adventure, intrigue and perhaps even a few laughs along the way. Metro City is here for excellently tongue-in-cheek superhero shenanigans for all your modern kitchen-sink supernatural roleplaying needs. We care about having comedy with our drama and diversity among our characters. I know that for me, a lot of boards can get so bogged down in being gritty and dark that the impact is lost because there's no dynamic contrast. If there's a little comedy (or a lot) thrown in, those dramatic notes stand out a lot more and it's easier to appreciate them, in my opinion. I know that I've learned a lot about comedic writing from being on this board.

Part of the comedy around Metro City is that we like to lampshade comic tropes. We actually factor in "trope coverage" to some plot decisions, because if we're going to be a superhero setting well naturally we'll eventually need to have twins who both have complimentary powers (check) and a teen hero team (teen swarm check) and a villain/hero romance (check) and Obligatory Clone Plot and Obligatory Alien Plot (check) and Obligatory Power Loss Plot (we have not done all of these yet but we keep them in mind as options because we respect our heritage).

We're writing in a comic book style setting, which means occasionally that we have to poke fun at our roots a little, just to make it clear that we know when they deserve it. We also try to improve on our roots by having characters of all races, genders, orientations, and ages, which is not something the big comic publishers have historically been terribly great at.

So, I have a JCINK board that plays on the element of truth to story-telling. It's a present day roleplay in an original fantasy setting based around Earth, with some fandom re-imaginings. There's no word count – at any given time you'll find threads of all lengths, depending on the comfort zone and mood of the players in the thread. The site's about medium sized and we're all very friendly and welcoming <3!

We have a full canon list of both original and re-imagined characters. OCs are also accepted and encouraged. The characters on the board so far range from gorgons, powered humans, normal humans, fae, fairy tale characters, elves, vampires, Amazons, Atlanteans, werewolves, mages, witches and a whole host of other praeternatural and mythological beings ^^.
