I use self-hosted IPB 1.3 (what IF adn IPBFree use) when I'm not feeling lazy. So I was looking at mods just now and I found one that allows you to link accounts together. So you don't have to log in and out!! I don't know if it works cause it looks like some heavy editing...BUT OMG IF IT WORKS? SLICED BREAD! lol.
Given that I'm about 80% sure that I'll be self hosting on IPB 1.3 soon, that is amazing! If you add it to your forums, please let me know if it works! <3
I did get it to work though I do remember there were some issues. If you changed your account name after linking, you had to delete the linking and relink them because if you tried to use the existing link, it posted as a guest. It's been a while since I used it and I know there was something else...some troubleshooting and editting I had to do that wasn't listed in the instructions and even after that there was one function that wouldn't work. I think you couldn't start polls without an error. I had quite a few mods installed and I'd be more than willing to give you my edited files but it looks like the linked accounts was my number 10 mod, which means some of the files have edits from other mods in them. Thanks Lorr, this is now working beautifully. Except! When you request to link with someone's account, their account name suddenly turns to your account name in the board header. For example, when Tom requests linkage with Jeff, Jeff logs in and it says his account is now "Tom". But when you click on his profile, it leads to Jeff's profile as it should. So the only issue is with {ibf.member.name} I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me out here. :D *Blinks hopefully* Oh! And when I switch skins, the problem, bizarrely, goes away, which would imply it's a problem with one of the skin files that have been edited: -skin_ucp.php -skin_post.php -skin_topic.php But when I restore the above three files, the problem does not go away. It's a mystery...
I've seen the linked accounts mod on a few ipb1.3 sites like this one as an example. So i knew it could be done i just didn't know where to get the mod since Invisonize died. Thanks so much for this! I'll try it later.
Jcink has this mod, but he coded it, it wasn't a found or bought one installed to the service and when you change names it recognizes the name change. So the fact your version doesn't seems kind of odd, you would figure they would fill that in as a kind of common sense thing on a Mod like this for the forum.
this mod was written for the self-hosted version that was given out to users back in the early 2000s. Jcink's mod is not the same since he wrote it himself. This is an entirely different mod that if I remember correctly, was released in 2006 or 2005. The reason for the quirks is because the mod writer was MIA (since I came upon the mod in 1.3's support's dying stages) and those are things that are simply...broken. Bugs, if you will. long story short? it's old and very unsupported, just like self-hosted 1.3 itself. If you note the date of the topic start, you'll realize that this was posted long before Jcink's mod became a thing.
Yeah I noticed, I don't like finding mods for things when they no longer provide support for them, because as great as it may be at the time later something you change or some other altercation is bound to cause a glitch. It's just a supreme pet peeve. -.-
well when you're using old software it's kind of your only option? I don't use 1.3 anymore since I upgraded to IPB3 but a lot of people out there still use it. I see a lot of animal RPs on self-hosted ipb 1.3.
