    Other notes:
I'm looking for a fantasy kitchen sink RP that isn't confined strictly within a medieval European-styled cultural environment, which means preferably some degree of anachronism is tolerated (such as some steampunk or clockpunk stuff - no modern/sci-fi tech, though), as well as allowing different cultures' fantasy to overlap - i.e. one can have knights adventuring alongside samurai, creatures from Far Eastern mythology (i.e. Youkai, Oni, Chinese dragons, etc.) or Greek mythology (i.e. Minotaurs, Cyclopes, etc.) and others sharing the same universe as those from medieval European mythology and such.

How do you enjoy things semi-based on Renaissance Europe and such? Rapier Wit is something like Princess Bride meets Three Musketeers, mixed with swordplay and sorcery. (Yes - you read that right, Sorcery, which makes me think it falls into more of a unique historical fantasy category.) We've brought in some historical and literary elements to the proverbial melting pot, so I don't know how you feel about that. Our world is based more off of silly stereotypes and a lot of cinematic styles from Renaissance Europe based things, each country with their own unique flair.

We are going to wind up expanding our board to encompass Arabic countries/lore as well as Asian countries and lore, but we haven't quite opened those areas up for play yet, as they are still in development. Parts of the world are based on mythology (especially the Viking area, whose sorcery is runic in nature), or general legends of the time, like the Arthurian legends that are settled in England. It's perfectly acceptable to have all those cultures running around together as they meet up and go chase down a monster, or sailing the waters as pirates as most of the characters on the board travel currently. :)

To specifically speak to a staff member - look for someone in blue or green, as those are our administrators and moderators. We also tend to be overly friendly to new people - so fair warning!

Good luck in your search and happy hunting!

    ----------------------
What if Renaissance Europe were not just about men serenading girls at night and women in fluffy court dresses? What if the Sidhe really did exist and the Holy Graal sat in the Queen of England's throne room? What if the Brother's Grimm stories were not just tales, but a journal of encounters? In the world of Theah, such things are all possible. Sorcerers wield fire, shape shift into animals and rip bloody (literally) portals into thin air to step through to another part of the world. Here, there be dragons, gargoyles and sea monsters.

In a nutshell, Rapier Wit is a forum that revolves around the idea of an alternate Europe setting during the Renaissance era. However, Rapier Wit is NOT EARTH. Mostly, because in this world, it is possible to encounter a monster or ghost. If you're ridiculously unlucky, you might find yourself facing a dragon or the mysterious 7th Sea.

The world of Theah is highly stylized following some romanticized viewpoints of history, throwing in some stereotypes and elements from famous literature roughly set somewhere along these timelines. Mystery, excitement, action, adventure and romance all are possible in the world we call Theah.

Hi, I would like to invite you to check out The Menagerie.

We are a High Fantasy role playing community that is actally a game, rather than just free writing. We employ a very simple, learn-as-you-play system that lends some structure and prevents god modding and allows character growth. No complex stats, though we do have gold, loot, equipment as well as magic and John Woo style fighting action and so on! Just a hint of process addiction to give you some personal goals to compliment awesome story lines.

Your character is your creation within simple guidelines, create something all original. Classes don't exist (they don't in real life), but you can build an archetypal character through the use of our Talent system. We have some factions in our world, so your character can belong to something greater than themselves as well, if they like.

Our collection of players are all mature, creative writers and we enjoy being friends. We have been about for almost ten years and through some five incarnations. We feel the current one is the best so far, doing away with complicated mess and focussing on fun.

We don't bother with word counts. Both style and substance count for something. We all enjoy incredible, articulate posts, but sometimes those one liners hit the mark.

Our world is all original and you needn't feel intimidated by huge, over arching sit plots. Many of our players form writing partnerships and run multiple threads at once - we just want you having fun!

I hope to see you there. We're always excited to see a new face on site.

    Thanks for your consideration.

    ~ Grayell.

    Hey!

I'm actually working on a site that sounds exactly like what you're looking for, but sadly I don't have all the lore written for it. Basically it's going to be medievalish with a spash of steampunk (airships) and greek mythology creatures (minotaur, faun, etc) all in a completely unique world. Should I keep you in mind for when it opens?

    Good luck with your search!

Whoo boy do I have the site for you! Please take a look at The Otherworld, I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

    • There is a world, hidden away from the prying eyes of the human world. They call it the Otherworld. Humans have never known it existed.

      That is, until now.

The fae are coming into the human world with numbers so vast they cannot even be counted. They feel that it is their time to come out and welcome the sun, as the humans do. The portal between our worlds has opened. The humans call it the Tear, some believing that it is simply a rip in the "wall" that stands between our two societies. This is not true. We Fae call it the Opening. For it was not a rip, a tear, or a mistake. The Elementals opened the door for us, and we have taken their challenge. The Elementals rule all of our world. There are four of them, Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. They are not to be reckoned with. Contrary to what most people think, these are not nice people. To make a bargain with them to ask for death or for your soul to never find peace. When you make a bargain with the elementals, be careful and wise.

So, I have a JCINK board that plays on the element of truth to story-telling. It's a present day roleplay in an original fantasy setting based around Earth, with some fandom re-imaginings. There's no word count – at any given time you'll find threads of all lengths, depending on the comfort zone and mood of the players in the thread. The site's about medium sized and we're all very friendly and welcoming <3!

We have a full canon list of both original and re-imagined characters. OCs are also accepted and encouraged. The characters on the board so far range from gorgons, powered humans, normal humans, fae, fairy tale characters, elves, vampires, Amazons, Atlanteans, werewolves, mages, witches and a whole host of other praeternatural and mythological beings ^^.

Once Upon A Time, Man stopped giving the stories faith. But it was the stories that gave life meaning. Without the stories, there was no more worth within life. The Great Spider Anansi looked to the world, mourning what it had lost, and was moved to action. The spider wove his web, beginning a new story. And from that story, all stories that had been before – the stories that had been real, read, spoken or imagined – lit back to life. From that story, all things were made possible.

@Lawman I think that Utopia Rising would actually be a perfect fit for you. We are a modern fantasy board that incorporates both creatures from Nordic mythology as well as Greek mythology. The world is also in a bit of an uproar with a battle going on between races and such and the humans just now becoming aware of what else is out there.

The current year is 2018 and magic has come back to Earth. All sorts of magical and supernatural creatures exist on Earth though most humans know nothing of their existence; the humans that do either hunt them to kill them or study them with a few exceptions. War rages with those humans while they try to keep their existence a secret while others just try to exist. The field of battle is set are you ready?

Rumors and whispers of magic is flowing to more and more human ears. Tales of supernatural and downright magical occurrences are finding their way to Brood and Human ears alike. For the Broods, werewolves and others aligned against Mages it is troubling for that means Shadow Mages found their way to Earth, for Humans it is fantastical and curious; but could it be real?! Can the Broods stop the Mages from gaining a foothold on Earth? Or will the Shadow Mages ultimately corrupt Earth as they did Utopia?

I have a site you might be interested in. We're a jcink historical supernatural site with a low word count and friendly environment. We have a bit of a futuristic vibe concerning some modern amenities and things and we're fairly open to different cultures and what not! We're coming out of the summer slump and are actively looking for new members to join us. We are set in an original medieval style world called Setharos. We allow humans, vampires, witches, therianthropes, and lycans on the board. We allow characters of all ages and sexualities and we're free-for-all with content and such. [With 'sex scenes' we prefer it to be tasteful and marked. But players have the option of fading to black in they prefer. We just ask that no 'porn scenes' are written. Explicit sex is a no-no.] We have a minimum word count of only 250 words, but most players generally try to mirror word counts. The only real activity requirement is at least logging onto your account(s) once a week just so we know you're around! We've been opened for a bit but are recently going through a bit of a revamp for the new school year, so activity on the board is admittedly a little low, though all of us are more than willing to plot and thread as much as we possibly can [almost all of us are in school/uni/work, so we know how muse and RL get in the way]. You should definitely come check us out!

[[And some extra information from our old advert:]]

In the realm of Setharos, peace spread from north to south, west to east,
and the therianthropes, humans, lycans, and vampires once lived in harmony.
However they neglected and abused the witches, who had no kingdom they
could call their own. They were forced to live amongst the other races or in
'cities' not protected by one of the four kingdoms. Outraged, Morgath, a dark
magic witch, gathered an army and persuaded the witches of Setharos to join
him to crush the four kingdoms in a horrific and bloody event they later called
the Reaping. They fought for several months and Morgath and his army were
crushed, but he had managed to plant a seed of hatred for the other races within
each kingdom after his death. Centuries later, the four kingdoms still hate one
another, but the threat of Morgath's ressurection and a second Reaping has forced
them to join together to ensure their survival if he was to land in Setharos again.

Now it is up to the kingdoms of Setharos to find peace amongst each other once
more; to band together and use one another as allies in a fight they know is coming.
Alliances will be made, friendships and relationships will be tested, and at the end
of it all, only the strong and willing will survive. But the peoples of Setharos know
this: they will not be slain again and they will not let their kingdoms once more
    become Morgath's garden of bones.
