The rhythmic footsteps of the Joraks echoed within the entire ship and Vonitaire could feel her whole heart beating erratically, echoing all the way to the tip of her ears as chaos ensured all around her. People screamed from her left and right as they got carried away by the wave of panicking bodies from their beloved. The evacuation sign lit all the major paths, the mechanic voice of the alarm system advising its people to find the nearest exit and to proceed calmly. This, of course, was being blocked by the hysteria that rose within the crowd. The instinct to run from the object causing fear was always the first most important rule in the human basic survival training.

As Vonitare clutched the laser gun closer to her side, she couldn't help but take a deep breath. It never occurred to her that this sort of invasion was still possible. After all, they were two hundred years away from the last war, and with the signing of the Universal Constitution of the Peace Treaty taking place only three months ago, it was impossible that this sort of action ensued. But with all the information Vonitaire processed in her mind, the truth could no longer be denied. It was all happening right in front of her eyes.

The funny thing was that she didn’t have any experience in handling all of these things. What she did in everyday life did in no way prepare her for this. After all, how could helping aged people prepare her in shooting the alien enemies? Comparing the two physically, Vonitaire was already terrified. To stand up in front of a Jorak was, to her, basically asking to be killed – which entirely was the point of this mission. Her breathing still wasn’t steady, nor did she ever think it was ever going to. ‘A nineteen year old, welcomed death with open arms’, she could see it in the headlines now. But the question was, would that ever happen? Would her people pass this trial? Would they all be able to keep living day to day after this mission? Thoughts swarmed her head, not realising that the mass that surrounded her had disappeared.

The alarm system squawked the pre-recorded, calmly voiced, not to panic order over and over. Problem was, no one was listening. Everyone was either running...or dead. The Universal Peace Treaty was supposed to solve everything. It was supposed to unite those of Earth with their intergalactic counterparts and bring about "new trade alliances" and "foster peaceful relations" blah balh balh. It was all a bunch of bull, at least from Srgt. Jackson stood. Politicians talking out their ass to cover their ass. Sure, they might be artful and cute with their language, but when it came to invasions...well, they locked their cabin doors and hid. Cowards.

Jackson muttered into his communicator, a little wire attached to both his ear and his mouth,"Section D looks clear. Proceeding forward. Oh! Looks like we got a crowd trapped in the passageway! Jackson Out."

He'd been aboard this ship for seven months now. It was her maiden voyage and he'd already forgotten her name after five minutes of hearing it. It wasn't that he had a bad memory, he just didn't care to remember something that wasn't important in a crisis. He gritted his teeth and charged up his laser rifle. He leaned out slightly into the hallway and there he saw it, their invader for the time being; the Jarok. The passengers cleared the main passageway, save for one girl holding what appeared to be a pistol unsteadily in her hands. You uh...plan to use that or just look pretty for the alien bastard? Jackson thought as he crouched just around the corner and poked his head out from behind the wall, peering at the thing standing in front of her. He brought the rifle to his shoulder, aimed for the alien's head...or what looked like its head and fired.
