How To Get 15 Posts At the ‘D

Because half the new members who join for the purpose of advertising their site in the directory want to know how they get to fifteen posts, I’ve put together this little step-by-step guide both to get to there and hopefully keep you here! Why do we have this rule? Simple. We don’t want drop and go members. We want people who are going to remember this place, come back and participate, and help our community continue to grow and improve.

But at the same time, the ‘D is a huge and rather overwhelming place when you first arrive. There are so many forums! With so much stuff in them! How do you find the places to get those posts without getting lost in the shuffle? Well, let’s start.

    Getting Started

Well, you’re in this forum, so you’re in the right place! Start with a welcome post. We at the ‘D are very friendly. We’ll come in, welcome you, ask you questions, and respond to your information. The best way to engage a discussion here, which will of course get you quite a few of those 15 posts, is to put enough information in your intro for the members to grab onto. Talk a bit about your roleplaying experience. Add some information like where you’re from or that you like cats or your favorite band is Kiss or you really want to travel the world and visit and Japan or Brazil or the French Rivera. Give us something to go on, and you’ll notice your post count climbing.

While you’re here, why don’t you welcome some of the other new members? As a new person, you can help show other new people that our community is friendly and open and welcoming!

You can still help your game!

First, put a link to your site in your signature. To edit your sig, click on your name on the top bar and click my settings. Then on the left pick signature. Now as you go around posting, you’ll be advertising as well! Remember you can use BB code in your signature just like in any other post.

Now check out the Requesting RP Forum. You can still offer your game to requestors even if you don’t have 15 posts yet! Please make sure you are only offering to those people who have asked for your type of game. And these posts do count toward your total.

Then head to Affiliation program where you can start a topic looking for affiliates and/or reply to others! Have your code handy, because you’re about to make plenty of connections!

    Join in the Discussions!

This is not only a roleplaying advertisement forum, but a place to ask for and receive advice. The Managing Your Board and Roleplay Talk forums are our most popular locations, with pages and pages of interesting topics that you can reply to. Anything from people asking for help with troubles to wanting to know your favorite character flaw can be found here. Your answers are just as important to us as everyone else, and because you are new you might have a thought or opinion we haven’t had before. So find three or four topics here that suit you, and get to posting.

We also have non-RP discussions, that you can find in the Community Hideout This area contains a debate forum, a media forum, lifestyle, and others. This is another place where you can add your thoughts, post about your great day, talk about new movies or music, or just relax. As a note, posts in the game forum are fun, but don’t add to your post count. So toss a few down but don’t spend too much time there until you’ve finished your fifteen.

The Book Nook is a great place to discuss literature, and artsy chatter is for that talk about graphics, drawing, photography and more. Feeling like your muse is a little lacking? Check out the The Writing Cafe for all your writing needs.

    Add Onto the Community!

We love when people begin to participate in other areas of the forums. Do you have character profiles or rp posts you want to share with us? Help us build up our Writing Library. Or read and reply to other people’s works. We also have Graphics and Art portfolio’s, where you can look at and comment on people’s works. Or make your own! If you’re into graphics, we’d love to see them.

    Help Others

You can help our members as well. Play By Help is a forum where members ask for help locating a play by for their new character. If you’re good at coding or skinning, stop by the Help Me! forum to assist others with fixing that one little skin bug that is driving them batty. You can also comment in Interest check on potential RP ideas, or, even though it will take you some time Review other member’s boards. While you’re here, you can also put yours up for review!

    So by Now...

I hope that you’ve made it to fifteen and are off to place your ad in the directory. But I also hope you’ve seen enough to know this is a place you want to stay and continue to participate! The ‘D needs your help to keep the resources flowing for all RPers out there. You can continue to help by participating in the Icon Project and the Prompt Project. Help grow our documents and tutorials sections, which houses articles on roleplaying, running a forum, and details for characters, and tutorials on coding, skinning, and graphics making. Enter a challenge in our Challenge Center, where you will win a badge and advertising for the game of your choice. If you like skinning, submit to the Skindex or go through there and nominate skins you like to be “Wowed!”. We also have a Codex and a collection of Post templates that you can peruse, use and add to! If you’re more graphically inclined, Play by Icons or Graphical Gifts might be the place for you, where you can donate icons, textures, stock, brushes and more for the member to use in their games and creations.

Point being, there is so much to do here, that after your fifteen posts, you’re not even close to scratching the surface of the ‘D.

So what do I do with all of this?

We here at the ‘D do want to reward you for all your contributions. If you add to our site, you can earn badges and promotions. All you have to do is meet the requirements for the badge or promotion and keep track of those in your own Thread tracker. When you’re earned it, you post in the badges and promotions and a member of the staff will fix you up! To see a list of all those who have been promoted Click here.

If you still have questions after all of this, stop by Letters to Staff to ask the wonderful staff team for help.

Can we put a cross-reference link to this in the advertising section, where it has the instructions?

This thread is cool, hopefully it'll help me reach 15 posts :) I just wanted to be helpful, and point out what would seem to be an contradiction error.

In the pre-15 posts area, under helping others, you wrote "even though it will take you some time Review other member’s boards. While you’re here, you can also put yours up for review!"

According to the rules thread on the Board Analysis forums you need to have 15 posts to put your board up for review.
