I do this when my other staff members are not on. For me its time difference wise( I am Eastern, Our mod is central and My co Admin is Pacific, so we all range from 1 - 3 hours apart[ Yes we have 3 Main staff and 1 graphic mod]) or I don't have school and they do. When I am extremely busy I leave a message in the chatbox asking the other admin or Mod to accept it for me.
Then sometimes I have them review my character's apps in case I missed something (which I sometimes do) then accept it myself.

I will not accept my own characters on my board. I will follow my exact guidelines as far as the requirements of the app are concerned - actually, I will exceed them: I don't require a writing sample for players already on StC, but I will include one myself for every character I apply with.

I think StC is unique as a board for having its default font size set to 12pt in posts, a standard I have got used to on Dreamwidth. Most boards seem to be 10pt, if not smaller - and the smaller font sizes are a board cliché I don't like because it makes things unnecessarily hard to read especially when coupled with either a dark skin or a low contrast, or both.

This is pretty much exactly what I came to this thread to say. It just grates on my nerves, for some reason, when half the ads I see end in "with a twist" in the title or description. Okay, so your site isn't necessarily "standard" for your fandom's canon, or for the style of RPG you do, or whatever...but the description should say that, not a phrase that's repeated way too often. I don't know why that bothers me so much, but it DOES.

Every time I see the "with a twist" description now, I'm going to read it in that exact way.

    &&Fleur de Lis the RP
Good Versus Evil AU with a twist
Steal our outrageously large images and we will kill you
    Directed by M Night Shyamalan.

I can't think of any other cliches that haven't been added.

I guess the attempt to be hip and cool and advertise with memes, or put them in your rules? I used to see those sites all the time. Not funny, man.

    EDIT
I'm stupid. Good vs Evil was gonna be the cliche I was gonna add. But that's cliche for all media.

I don't accept my own profiles but meh, sometimes I leave what seem like plot holes in my apps because they make perfect sense to ME, given that I know everything about the site and probably some things you don't know because I didn't want to spoil something in the future.

I kinda find it hard to believe that people would know a lot more lore than me - I've written almost all of it.

The only reason I want my co-admins to accept it is that I LOVE their storyteller posts and I always get lazy and put up something crappy when accepting my own.

I've always accepted my own profiles but I've never had any problems.

Though saying that with a lion rp with a fairly strict character creation guide and where any kind of personality is allowed there isn't really anywhere I could go wrong... if that makes sense?

Maybe some sites like mine don't really have characters that would create 'plot holes' since it's rather freeform/simplistic. Though I guess I could see problems if a staff member on my site made a black lion character and accepted it without paying points like other players have to do. But I don't know anyone that would be that ignorant/selfish.

I haven't had a chance to read all of the cliches posted yet, but I know one cliches that immediately turns me away from a site.

A cornucopia of site sub-plots that are just love plots with mandatory involvement from certain characters. Thanks but no thanks, if I want a romance plot, I'm perfectly capable of thinking one up myself. Having someone dictate to me who my character has to be with if I want a certain canon turns me away from a site in a flash.

So basically romance-focused site sub-plots with mandatory involvement for specific canons is a cliche that really irks me.

I'm not sure if this has been said yet, but personally I always feel like there are so many colorful graphics everywhere on a lot of forums that I feel like I'm looking at my computer screen through this pink haze, which I find mildly annoying but I suppose is just me.

    LOL.

I think something to be understood is that cliches aren't always bad. Hell, sidebars are popular because ... well ... they work and people find them confusing and you don't have to send people PMs with detailed instruction on how to find your cbox (been there done that).

    We're ____, with a twist!
    We're a unique _____ RP!

No. Prove it to me. "Unique" and "with a twist" are two of the most vague and useless descriptors in the history of language.

Totally this! I absolutely hate the way some boards have their "first" and "link back" forums named. I see "*****" and "virgin" in place of the usual first and link back names. That's becoming a new trend lately and I hate it to no end! I don't care for those fancy names. I'd rather you just be direct and upfront. There are some boards I don't even link back to because they have their advertising forum on some hidden plant that you have to find through millions of different forums. I just delete a first link if I can't find your advertising board straight up. Linking back is annoying enough without all that fancy crap.

I hate hate hate when forums are super protective and obnoxious about their graphics.

Believe me, if I see "Our graphics are not freeuse" I am not going to use them! you don't need to type out "THESE BELONG TO THIS SITE ONLY, IF YOU TAKE THEM I WILL KILL YOUR FAMILY."
