Film Noir, Anyone? (Ooc/interest)

First of all, I must state that I am ripping this idea off from a friend, who quite successfully pulled it off until it ran out of interest a year or so ago. I loved it then and I'm ready to try it out myself. Also, I've never finished an RP here on the 'D, and would love to do that too.

This will be a modern Film Noir thread, if I get enough interest. Good film noir is a difficult thing to write, let me tell ya. That's fine with me - I've been needing a challenge.

If you aren't familiar with film noir, TVTropes has excellent articles regarding tropes and things you can use. Better yet, you could check out a film - Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, Strangers on a Train - and get some good muse going. (My favorite is Anatomy of a Murder. It isn't really film noir, but it works for me.)

For this, I'll need at least two other characters. I'm planning to play the detective, but I'm willing to negotiate. Also needed are a femme fatale and a villain. I'd also like some minor villains and some cops.

The plot? The detective will be investigating a crime, the nature of which I'll leave up to whoever plays the villain. Remember that we have to keep it PG-13.

We could go with the typical crime, which would be murder, or perhaps your character might have stolen something instead. Or even both.

This is hard because I keep wanting to set it back in the 1940's ! Is this in England or America? I'm assuming America? Wasnt sure how much detail you wanted but I can keep editing it and we discuss things.

Thoughts? Room for development? I have an idea for another character possibly the wife of the other person involved who actually knows more than she realizes?

It sounds good to me - I've been assuming America, just because I live here. I especially like the idea of him being an ex-cop. Puts a new spin on things. And I'd be cool with the other character, depending on how things go. Maybe she could be the femme fatale?

Gender: Male
Age: 35
Brief Description: Tall and slender, with tanned skin and dark hair. He has been an investigator for nearly a decade, and was studying the field before that. Perpetually single, he has no problem with relationships, just finds it difficult to get into anything long-term. He has many friends and is easy to get along with. At his worst, he keeps to himself and can be a bit morose.
Involvement: Private investigator who has been called in to review the case. Having closed quite a few robbery cases in the past, it is well known in certain circles that he is an expert in missing persons and items.

This feels a little thin to me, but this is all I have on the character so far. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Sounds good. I think it would be really good if our characters had some past history as well. Being as Victor was a past cop too. Maybe your character worked under Victor before he was convicted, perhaps they once had a good relationship ie Victor trained/helped your character find his feet. Might be good for some kind of banter ? Its up to you we could develop something here.

EDIT - just seen your characters ages, and theres not much difference so maybe not trained him but some kind of history would be good perhaps.

That sounds awesome to me! They could have worked together - maybe Asher was on the force for a while before Victor's conviction. Or they might have just happened to work on the same case in the past and developed a nice acquaintanceship then. Either one works for me, though I figure the first probably makes more sense.

Yeh that sounds brill, worked on the same team etc before. I'm happy with that.

Awesome - now I guess we just need a few more players to make this thing happen.

yep or we could start with an intial meeting or something, and see if people become interested?
