So, my Christmas was spent re-formatting my computer who decided to be a jerk and BSOD me. The most annoying thing I am finding thus far is I hadn't saved all my fonts in one place, and I can't remember the names of some of my former go-to fonts. So I thought we could list some of our favorites and link to them if they were free?
Here are some great lists of free fonts released in the last few years. http://webdesignledger.com/freebies/best-free-fonts-of-2011 http://www.addictivefonts.com/various/logo-designing/free-fonts-logo-designing/ These are some of my favorite free fonts. It's kind of old english/fairy tale like with the capital letter being all fancy) a cut above the rest anything goes Rapjack the death note font (the one the shinigami use to write) :3 1948 report view (i think that's it.....)
MORE MORE MORE. Can I just say this thread is amazing? I recently had my computer crash and I lost all my gorgeous fonts. I'm trying to build back up and this is soooo helpful. Everyone should share more!
Totally with you doctorbee. Rebuilding fonts and this was so helpful. Thought I'd share some of the fun fonts that people have requested I use in some of my graphics: Vampire Street Jellyka Castle's Queen Never Let Go Shelter Me Jellyka Delicious Cake Sell Your Soul Garton Perry Gothic Night Sky
FONTS ARE MY LIFE. I'm kidding, but only slightly. In doing graphics for ~6 years, I've accumulated about 2,200 fonts Good Freeware Font Packs http://yensdesign.com/2009/01/the-ultimate-free-fonts-pack/ http://www.noupe.com/fonts/40-extremely-beautiful-fonts-hand-picked-from-deviantart.html http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/11/24/15-beautiful-high-quality-free-fonts/ Once upon a time, I made a pack with about 600 fonts in it, but I'll have to find it and rehost it, since Megaupload is dead. I'll edit this post if/when I get around to that. COMIC SANS. Comic sans for everything! (Tyopgraphy inside joke : The fastest way to be discredited as trivial and n00bish is to use Comic Sans, because of it's chronic overuse)
I just found this site of really unique fonts- I'm loving it already! http://www.neo2.es/blog/category/typography/
My absolute favorite font is ***** Happens (click) because it has a hilarious name and looks soooo beautiful.
Another Typewriter Birth of a Hero Closure Dandelion in the Spring Just the Way You Are Skinny Skinny Jeans Stars From Our Eyes Talking to the Moon Where the Stars Shine the Brightest
Oh em gee, Bleeding Cowboys is so awesome!1 But seriously. Museo (and everything by exljbris) is just flawless. My personal favourite of theirs is Fertigo Pro, which I might as well call my favourite font ever. <3 I also adore the fonts on offer at the League of Movable Type. I also love these three: Wisdom Script MEgalopolis Extra Tommaso
I LOVE THIS THREAD! :D And I adore League of Moveable Type and Lost Type Co-op. Just, ugh, such beautiful sites with beautiful fonts. Everyone needs to go check them out if they haven't already. All the fonts are so amazing! News Cycle is a great font for headers and such in my opinion. It looks very humble as simply a font for writing (and actually I don't use it for normal writing, because it's a little too much on the narrow side to be easy on the eyes in paragraph form), but when it's in all caps in bigger sizes, it looks amazing. Very classy, simple, modern and elegant, and unexpectedly atmospheric too. It kind of reminds me of iconic powerful women, I don't know why, but it does. Matchbook is interesting, kind of retro but with a modern twist. St. Marie and Chunk Five are crisp slab fonts. Blanch is along similar lines to Ostrich Sans. Dock 11 delivers a lot of impact while still being very tight and clean. Antechamber BAM. Just. BAM. <3 I could hug this font all day long! Violent Elegance is no longer free but it's wonderful.
I use these fonts pretty much religiously! Code Light Jellyka Saint-Andrew's Queen Print Clearly Santos Dumont This thread is positively terrible for me
Ooh, a thread for typophiles. This is my new favorite corner of the site! I have over one thousand, legally acquired or free fonts on my computer at this moment. I cannot resist. I dabble too much in advertising and image editing and web design to not love me some fonts. That said, one of my new favorites is Droid Serif. It's simple, it's clear, it's precise, and it looks damned lovely on a website. Yes, yes, yes, I know that it's a serif and I usually advocate non serifs, but I tend to utilize fairly large font sizes. That compensates! If you're ever looking for new fonts, I'd highly recommend Font Squirrel. There are many fonts there and they're all available for free commercial use. I know that with the ease of acquiring things on the Internet a lot of people aren't necessarily concerned with copyright infringement (at least, until their work product is stolen!), but I make an effort to have right on my side.
omgsh, i'm like in heaven right now... I'll have to shop around and look at all these wonderful fonts. I'd have to say my favorites at the moment are : Georgia (all caps, small size) Feathergraphy (just utterly adore this one) unfolding tragedy (sooo great for darker themes) code light (so simple and yet striking)
