So it's over now. And a bloody nice time it was too. I found a passion for curling, and rekindled my love of the figure skating events, and all in all had a lovely time watching it with the family. Man was that gold medal mens curling match between Norway and Canada just epic? (And yes, I'm being serious here :p)

But what I was disappointed about was that New Zealand came away with no medals whatsoever. Shame. I mean heck, even Kazakhstan got a medal for something! I didn't even know they had snow there. Go figure.

So how did your home country do? Are you proud or disappointed with the result, or do you just not care?

ohemgee I have been waiting for someone to start a topic for this! <3 Yeah, we did come out of it a bit empty handed didn't we? I work night shifts, so I spent most of the past two weeks watching as much of the Olympics as I could. ( Yay free Prime coverage!) Figure skating was a big favorite, mainly the ice dance, more than pairs & singles. The gold medal match for curling between Canada and Sweden ( women ) was good one, I enjoyed that.

But I'm still proud of all our athletes, just to make it to the Olympics makes them a winner in my eyes.

I love the Olympics, I discovered this love while watching the Beijing games. Its just so... idk, I just love it.

And during these games I discovered one of my all time favorite athletes, Shannon Bahrke. She is just to cute, and like the definition of good sportsmanship. And I found one of my least favorite athletes, Plushenko I am looking at you.

I will always remember watching the US vs Canada gold medal hockey game earlier, that thing was intense.

Biathlon.

I. Never. Got. To. See. Biathlon.

Ah, the things they do for TV ratings. >_< They didn't show the biathlon here, and they delayed everything so that it would happen in prime time. I live in PST, the same time zone as the Olympics, but we watched it three hours later (or more!) than everyone else so we already knew who won.

Will to Live's Oregon Trail Days. Where students don 1840s garb and live on the football field for a week. Oh, the joy.

That was what Kazakhstan got their silver medal in - the womens' biathlon. I missed it too; I suspect it would have become another winter sport I'm in love with.

MmmNaana, totally agree with you; just making it to the Olympics is such an incredible achievement anyway, so I'm proud of our team just for that. Still would've liked to see us win a medal though, but then again, who doesn't?

Does anyone have a sport that they'd like to learn to play now just from watching the Olympics?

Curling for me. It reminds me of Pétanque, which should be in the Olympics too coz it's the coollest game ever, even though I suck at it

I only followed one event: men's hockey, and that's only because my boyfriend is a huge hockey fan. After watching the USA pretty much destroy all the other teams, I was really disappointed that we didn't win the gold. I thought we had it in the bag. =(

Canada won the most gold medals this year. 14 overall. We ranked third with most medals collected. I'm very proud. :)

I only watched bits and pieces of the various Mens Hockey games... 3rd period against the US was insane. Canada seemed to slow down a long way. Then with under 30 seconds left to closing in 3 periods of play the US scored to tie it up. Then in the over time with Crosby... The one player people kept saying didn't do much throughout it, scored. I had figured before the game started that he'd likely be the one to get the final goal.
To think, he's only 22 and he's already got Olympic gold and a Stanley cup under his belt.

As for the other events, I'm not too concerned with how we did. It was only the Hockey I cared about. ( And both men and women won gold so I'm happy.)

SHAUN WHITE WAS AMAZING. i've heard people say he's a douche and stuff like that but of course, i cheered for the american teams in every game (except women's figure skating but i'll explain that). shaun white was the last one to go during the second run of the half pipe but he secured the gold because no one could beat the score he got during his first run. he still went to do a second run and got a better score. his trick at the end, i think they called it the double mctwist? i'm not sure. but it was amazing. that trick was kick ass.

okay so men's skeed skating. was i the only one who noticed that every time apollo ohno skated, someone fell down and he got better track position? like, every single time! it was annoying. i'm half korean so my mom, who is full korean, was cheering for the korean men during all the speed skating while i was cheering for ohno haha. the koreans and ohno have history and the koreans dislike ohno so it was actually kind of funny.

so i'm glad evan what's his name got the gold in men's figure skating. he was really good. i mean REALLY good. go usa. anyway, okay, so i didn't cheer for the us when it came to women's figure skating. why? because i, like my mom, was cheering for kim yu-na. she was simply amazing. she set the world record in the short program by scoring 78.50 out of a possible 80 points and then beat her own record for the long program by 12 points. she beat the second place skater by 23 points. 23 POINTS. she was amazing. i can't remember time i've ever seen a figure skater do so well during the long program. anyway, i'm done gushing. the canadian skater, joannie, was really good during the short program. i actually kind of cried when she cried at the end of that. props to her for being able to skate so soon after her mother passed away. i'm glad she medal-ed in any case.
