Title: [S] About the google ...

This may seem weird, however, I don't care where my board could be hosted, but I don't want people find it via google searching.... do you have any ideas that might help me? :innocent:

Have you tried googling it and it shows up? Mine hadn't showed up in a search engine for about a year, and then I think it only showed up do to popularity. But otherwise, I don't think you can really control it, proboards shows up in search engines more than invisionfree.

*sighs* for the moment it won't show up in google search because it's not ready yet so a few persons actually visited it >_> anyway, in google searches the first found site is the most popular -_-
Maybe there's a code for what I want ..

But why don't you want people to find you via Google?

I didn't even know sites like these showed up in Google...oooh, i wonder how long it takes!

*runs off to search in google*

Google and Yahoo and search the web with so called spiders. If these spiders find new websites, I think they are automatically added to the search engine.

If you have a proboards site, and if your admin, you can sometimes see these spiders. They always show up as guests.

Also on IPB and vBulletin boards you can see when a spider is on the forum. They will show up as 'google.com' 'yahoo.com', 'msn.com' etc. etc.

These spiders don't hurt your forum at all, and it's good actually they find your forum. Because like that your forum gets ranked into the search engines.

But I don't want them.. >< .. i saw those 'spiders' on IDS ...
It's crazy, I know... mainly, when a forum is 'born' the admin wants to advertise more and more.. but I don't .. just a small community, friends.. I'm adding the whole English grammar, and I don't want noobs to come there, it's so hard to find ppl who are serious and realistic, and with common sense...
I think I'm scared of those persons who are pissed off, and would hacker my site.. o.O paranoia

As long as your forum doesn't have thousands of members, and tentousands of posts it will be barely findable on a search engine. Also, the less you advertise, the less you will find it.

For instance, if you type in 'RPG-Directory' in google. You won't find the board itself. But mostly reviews and places where I advertised.

So the less you bring a forum out in the open, the less it will be noticed by the search engines. And the less you will be ranked in a search engine. So the harder it will be found by other people.

And really, you can also do things on the board itself. For instance, don't show the forums to guests? If you only want to create a forum for your friends, and don't want other people to see it, than just don't show it to them. And if people would find it, they aren't interested anyway, because they can't see the forums. Also you could setup validation, or you could make it so people can only see the forums after an x ammount of posts.

They normally order them in order of relevance.
