Title: You Know What Gets Me Steamed?
Sigma - July 12, 2007 01:30 AM (GMT)
Mods and Admin on some forums that are so strict, that they become fascists and real jerks. i really hate that. have has anyone ever came across to a nasty mod?
BubbleTea - July 12, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
Haha yeah, alot of them.
I was a mod for some forum one time and there were mods on the same forum who were like that. It was extra funny to me when the members would PM [me] to rant on the mean mods. And then I'd have to be the voice of reason for some reason. I guess nobody wanted to tell the Admin.
Oh wellies.
Hehe, it made me feel loved.
I don't know about fascist mods though...just jerk ones.

Ill tell you what a fascist mod is. its a mod who enforces the rules by the book in the wrong way. i mean like giving out warns every dang day. giving bans everyday...ya thats a nightmare. and they still such a**holes. and no one even trys to fight it even the members know welll what the mods are doing is wrong.

Hehehe, I know that's silly but, you kind of sound like the old 'rebel without a cause'...
God, I'm such a dork. >>;;
Anyway, the problem more often than not is on both sides. The mods feel the have to defend the values and traditions of the board while the newcomers feel they are oppressed by unnecessary and strict rules that are just a cleverly disguised form of fascism. In the end though, the mods usually win, power and all.
But really, if a mod if bothering you, you should just leave... it'll save you the energy from getting angry. But that's just my 2p I guess... @_@
*poofs away like a ninja because that's a fun thing to do*

i hate the ones that IM you all the time and tell you "hey, i posted as ___ character" which is a character you're NOT involved with and don't need to post to... at all. that an mods that use excessive smilies.

But still. they are just jerks. i left that forum a long time ago. and also, me and others talk behind their backs on another forum, hehe :lol: its quite funny.
danakir - July 12, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
Isn't that kind of... personal pet-peeves? It's not like the excessive use of smileys is going to do you any harm... ^^;;
I mean, it's so easy to hate on the mods and the admins but if there were no mods or admins on all the forums, then it'd just be unchecked anarchy. Sure, sometimes the power is abused, or there's something that bothers you about a certain mod, but it's a small price to pay for a good measure of order.
Really, to live in real society, you do the same everyday, that is giving up some of your freedom in exchange for a certain degree of guaranteed safety and order.
But what do I know really, that's just how I see it... @____@
EDIT to that other post above mine: Well, whatever floats your boat. As long as you're having fun. ^^
Sigma - July 12, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
Well, ive been on forums that the mods and the admins never abuse their power. only time ive seen power abuse is in that one forum im talking about.
danakir - July 12, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
And it'S good that way! I'd like to believe power doesn't corrupt us quite THAT easily. ^^
Anyway, as you said, that forum sucked, so no regrets, eh?

oh wow this has all been new people!
first off, dont you see the rant forum just above this one for threads just exactly like this? please use that, in future, to rant about things.
second off, yes i hate them too. everyone has a different opinion of what horrible staff are though. for me its ones who dont listen and just parade themselves around as better than others - or those who break their own rules.
it is so easy to ignore rules and general etiquette when you are an admin or mod. you have no one to punish you and you dont have to listen to what anyone says. there are people who arent bothered by it though and they are awesome.

1 have to agree with carey. I was rping on board for about 2 months until another mod came along who quickly became an admin. He then started treating the rest of the non staff like they were inferior and started making rules which he himself didnt follow. So i left.

Yeah I've been on a site where one of the mods would just ban people because he didn't like them. Luckily he didn't mind me but he banned one of my mates which did annoy me!
