Title: What Would You Do?
heavenne - May 14, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
Okay I recently joined this rpg board, and got my character - one of the better ones I created.
And then the board goes down - unsure of its' future. (ouch)
so would you take that character and join the other board, or just throw it away?

I think I would be likely to reuse that character. I don't see why it should be a problem.

well..hypothetically..what *IF* the board is resurrected? I suppose I would have to recreate another one anyway right? they wouldn't save the old data?

Why not have the same character on two boards? I do it all the time. Usually they'll develop differently because of the different interactions on the boards so it isn't as repetitive as it seems. (happy)

I don't see any problem with it either, under those circumstances. I actually don't have the problem with reusing characters that some people seem to have, although I agree that the character should develop differently on each site. I also wouldn't reuse a character more than twice, just cause I get bored easily.

I always keep my characters... well, mostly because almost all of my characters were first a part of some story I created while I was bored. XD I develop them, save them on Word, and am always using them on multiple RPGs. You may have to change a couple of things to satisfy whatever RPG you're at but otherwise, why not?
But I, too, get bored and usually only RP the same character at like, two-three different RPGs. ^__^

I would strongly suggest keeping the character and using it on another site. ive kept all the characters ive EVER played and they are all there for future use. sometimes i go back and reuse them.
i dont tend to play characters on more than one site at a time, but thats just my attempt to keep them real and not play them across the boards and end up with reactions that wouldnt happen etc. but people can do it and if you think you can/want to, go ahead.

I have had quite a few characters on different sites. I think maybe six sites in all...about 13 characters. And I have to admit...a few of them ARE re-used.
I only do this when i really like a character that I have created, and than like you, the site dies.
I wasn't done playing that character, and wanted to do ti farther. So I tweek it a bit and move it to a new site.
I don't think there is really anything wrong with it, as long as your character does grow...

I don't see a problem with it. I've moved several of my characters to different RPGs and I think it's fun trying to keep their essential personalilty intact while trying to figure out how this would would have affected them as opposed to the other one.
Also, I'd reccomend saving copies of all the profiles you've ever written so you can cringe in embarrasment at the older ones so you can see how you've grown over the years.

You can take your orphaned character to another site. If you get really frustrated, you can even take it (and a few others. I always have whole herds of orphans) and join the ranks of admins. I have six orphaned characters on one RP, and two on another. I'm trying to hold the ranks of new orphans down.
