Description: please advise!!!!!

Ok, I don't want to be 'the bitchy admin' but my few members are getting lazy and this site has so much potential for drama there's really no excuse. I didn't want to make a big board full of rules because to me, rules are common sense, they're all the same on every board, people should just have a brain and know posting shuold be decent. (which I DID say int he rules) but nooooo my board is haunted with two liners and to make it worse all they want to RP about is sex! I am dying for some GOOD solid RPage, what am I to do? ahhhh!!!! How do you guys find a happy medium without loseing members? Or do I need to focus on quality members, not quantity and just kick them out? I'm so torn. lol

Difficult question. Personally, I think one- and two-liners are okay (but not if that's how it is everytime!) I even use them sometimes, mostly when I do not know what to write else than that. I mean, it's better with a two-liner, than a longer, with lots of crappy random stuff. Of course it's better if they are longer, but that's how I see it.
About what they want to RP about; Well, it's hard to stop them, and a rule like "not only sex-roleplaying" feels a little weird. (Although, I am mostly on supernatural rp's, so sex isn't something that's usually talked about). My only idea right now is telling them to try and focus on something beside sex, tell them something like "It would be good if you didn't only concentrate on sex. Personally, I would be bored of all it was about was sex, I don't get why youre members are so sex-crazy. But of youre two "questions" I would say: Go for somekind of medium, dunno what that could be though.

We've put a rule of thumb in place: You must have at least two non-sex threads for every sex thread. Some chars that's all they did was have sex, and how boring is that? We lost a couple writers, but hey, they weren't really contributing to the community, all they did was write smut.

so why doesn't someone make a stinking board for all these horny pople to post on? lol!

Haha, yah, a haven for creeps o.O

No offense ;)

SCRT - May 9, 2007 01:02 AM (GMT)
none taken, that's pretty much what I meant ;)

BUT YAH.

Just make a proclamation and tell them that their butts are going to get blown off if they don't start putting some quality into their posts!

Okay, maybe not quite so harsh. But seriously, you're the admin. Just tell them like it is, minus the attitude :) Perhaps set a RPing competition, that the best roleplayer gets . .soemthing. . hehe. Or perhaps a Character of the Week/Month/Etc. if you don't already have one :) If you don't, I'd post the things you're looking for, and maybe some people will start conforming to get that recognition :)

I already put my ads up for the site. I'm on about 5 advertising sites, this one being the best, of course :D where else could I post to try and recruit QUALITY members? I mean, it'a Mafia game, there's drama, drugs, killing, gambling, drama drama drama and yet all they want to post about is sex, and lame sex at that! pfft!

There are boards XD, problem is, the ones I've seen only take on writers of a high quality. hehehehehe...

Anyway, back on topic. I think you need to set a standard; discuss a plot idea you have, openly with the rest of the board. You could, for a short time, introduce a strict 'minimum paragraph' rule, until people begin adhereing to it naturally, then you can take it away again. You think that post quality/length is common sense, but consider just how many people lack common sense.

Also, while I think about it, what is your board's application process like? Do you have a requirement for a sample post? If you want posting of a higher quality than you are getting, then review your application process, because these people who are not meeting your expectations got into that game anyway.

A lot of games deny on the basis of a sample post because the game is intermediate/advanced, and they don't want beginners, or two liners to get into the game for fear of them falling behind.

I have no application process because I find it a waste of time, when I join, making characters especially. I develop my characters in my head, i don't like to have to make one up, make up all these little deatails and then two months later see they are NOTHING like their intro said they would be. But I'm finding it might not matter. My partner admin is in south africa for a month, so I don't want to do anything drastic until she gets back then we will discuss the rules. Right now I'm kind of just making an announcement and if they don't shape up they will be deleted when my friend returns, there are 2 on the delete list right now ;)
