Title: Open Threads

heavenne - April 30, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
ok. My question is, you're in your rp forum and you're in the mood for some rping, and there's an open thread that's already 2 pages long. Do you jump in or not? and if so, how?

I'm too chicken@#$@ to do it. But some tips would be nice :)

I don't see why you shouldn't jump in. Don't be scurrred! :D

My only advice would be to take into careful consideration what was said in the opening post and reflect that in yours as well. I would also try and match their length as best as you can while avoiding purple prose at the same time?

If it's open, that means hop right in. No reason to be shy or to second guess yourself. RPing is supposed to be fun!

I would also advise that you read every post in the topic. I personally hate it when someone joins a topic, and they base whatever they're doing off the first post, or the next couple proceeding posts, and it no longer makes sense with the topic; its kind of like throwing a monkey wrench at someone, telling them to catch, but they're blindfolded. If its too far left, it blows right past them and they pay no attention. If it hits them, well, they're going to be mad...

We also ask that if you join an open thread that's been going awhile, you contact the current participants to ask if they mind another. I know I've been involved in threads where I'd love new people joining, but I've also been in a few where once its begun to develop, I'd prefer that it remain just me and the other person. You know 'cause sometimes it becomes a soul-baring which you don't necessarily want to share ;)

I agree with the tips above. Defiantly a good idea is to contact the topic started if the thread has already gone on for a page, or two. To aks permission. And if you want to jump in, be sure to read through the entire topic. Nothing more is anoying then a new character jumping in and brining about the whole point of the topic.

I wouldn't bother o_0

Too lazy to read all the posts and try to fit in XD Besides, if you're RPing with total losers, they'll just ignore you. Or, if they're on at the same time, you'll find yourself five pages behind.

Fallen, she wanted tips on when to join in in an already open thread. Your post doesn't give her much tips on that. And who says she's RP'ing with total losers? Next time please refrain from such talk. If you contact the thread starter and ask them if you can join, and he/she says yes, they won't ignore you.

And there's something called waiting for each other to post.

thanks for the advice :) I think I'll just jump in if it's been a few replies. If it's been like two pages or something, then I'll ask :)

much appreciated thanks!!!!!

okay I took the plunge and jumped in one... now all I have to do is sit and wait

*twiddles thumbs and waits in response from the ppl in the rp.......* :)

(one day later, they did post back! yipee, now I won't be chicken#$@# anymore)

ps: apologies shin li, won't happen again :)

Sorry to say, but please don't double post. There's and edit button, so ifyou need to post something extra, put it into your previous posts.
