Title: Tales Of N00bness

Madman Mike - April 21, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
We've all been one before. We've all done something in an RP that, now we look back on, we think "was I that much of a n00b".

For example: I must have bombarded the head admin of one board with so many questions about how she did her board etc. before I realised it wasn't allowed in the rules. And the fact that I tried to join a literate RP with a 10 line history. So many n00b moments.

So whilst I try to drown my embarassment in my weight of hot-chocolate, let's hear whatever silly things you may of done in the past when you were new to the whole RP scene.

...be honest! ^_^

Har, well my experience wasn't the same as most. I was thrown in at the deep end by co-admining a site with my best friend haha. He was a seasoned rper so it wasnt so bad but i remember trying to be as good as him *shudder* whilst really not having a clue. Had i not been thrown into running my own site i think the admin would have gotten annoyed with me...

heres a question, how did you all hear about RP?

heavenne - April 21, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
I don't remember any tales of noobness from me..but I probably blocked it out of my memories because they're most likely extremely embarassing. I do recall one time when I posted - I overlooked a post someone else did and he yelled at me saying he wasn't even in the same place I was... well sorrrrrrrry. (he was an arse about it which wasn't very nice it's not like I did it on purpose may the gods smite him for his arseholeness)

how I heard about rp....hmmm..well I used to do it on irc chat which was a hell load of fun. Then I moved to yahoo boards (not that great) and now I'm into forum rpgs. Mind you there were large gaps in between where I didn't rp for months on end.So sometimes my posting was a little weak at times.

Noobness...err...well, when I was past the 'walk in and neighed' part of the rp boards, I actually used to do the 'th' female walked in and sh' neighed'.
[shudders]

How I started rp'ing..[giggles]
I was actually surfing a Saddle Club website when I was like 9.
And it said something about 'Horseland.com' and so I went there and joined.
And after a while I started rp'ing on the talk boards. After about a year I ventured to rpg's.

I started rping on neopets, totally by accident. So my past is filled with tales of n00bmas past.
The first time when I switched from neopets to forums, I didn't grasp the concept that people aren't always going to be on. So I would have my character roaming the site, trying to find someone to rp with at that moment. It looked pretty dumb when I looked back on it. Especially considering the fact that there were actually about five people posting in those topics, not at that moment, but I just pretended nobody was there so I moved on.

I cannot remember a time at which I was particularly noobish. I started out as a pretty good RPer, seeing as I was always good at English, and was one of the few who actually chose to implement it directly into my typing before being told that I needed to. I'm also a stickler for following the rules, so they've never been a problem for me. When I first broke into the RP scene, my skills intimidated the one who was considered to be the best of the first site that I joined...

...Mind you, my first RPG was a DBZ RPG (sneaky). It wasn't a particularly literate one, and the grammar standards were extremely low, so I may have been more noobish than I could have realized at the time. *sigh* I miss those days, though.

I was not thrilled when I found out about RPing. I was looking for an MMORPG-type thing, and when I found what I thought was one, it turned out to be some sort of text-based game. That was a foreign concept to me, and I couldn't understand how anyone could possibly have fun by just typing words about what happens...Then I got bored, and boredom lead to desparation, so I decided to try one out. I've been hooked ever since, though I have yet to find an RPG that I enjoy as thoroughly as my first one. (unhappy)

I am happy to say I wasn't a big n00b! I never used chat speech but my RPing was horrible until I got the hang of it like two or so months later. I found an old friend from when I was in the n00b stage. And after I found her she went away... I think she was thinking "Dear Lord! Not her again!" Or something along those lines lol

Let's see... Let's see... A n00b moment of mine... Oh! One time I was RPing with my own cat and made my cat get knocked unconscious then wake up like two seconds later lol Sad, sad, sad... lol I followed the rules at least!

I discovered RPGs when looking on Google for Warriors stuff. Found a RPG looked around liked it. Weeks later I got up the courage to join lol

My first site was an advanced RPG that had hidden boards. I couldn't figure out where anything was, sent about 25 PMs to the admin trying to get a clue and couldn't decipher half of the RPG lingo. It took me ages to under stand the characters plotting forums.

RPG is something we all know about in my school, but no one admits to except for the kids who are really into anime. I knew what it was, but had never actually done it. I was getting annoyed by my inability to finish a fanfiction so I was on google and I typed in RPG. I found Eithne and joined up, deciding it would be good for a laugh. Turned out to be fun. Who knew?

I remember my first character profile with dread. It wasn't especially newbie as much as it was emo. And I mean emo with a capital E.

Not sure if anyone is familiar with Yahoo! RP... But there, people call literate/advanced RP "para." Para is short for paragraph, so it indicates that you don't one line or action roleplay (you know, with *walks in, sits, says "Hello"* stuff)... And for some reason, when I first started RPing, I thought para meant partner, just in some weird internet-slang language...

I was in a chatroom, and someone was asking if anyone wanted to para RP with him. I had been onelining with someone else, but they left, so I kept saying "Ooh, me me! Pick me!" and he just kept saying "Lol." I couldn't figure out why he didn't want to, until I realized about a month later para = paragraph.

... I don't know why I thought it meant partner. Naturally you have to have a partner in roleplay, lmao.

Aw, my goodness, I remember my first days of RPing quite clearly. I started out on a GameFAQs role play, and people were godmodding and things like that, so I ended up thinking that it was okay. Pretty soon, I had made a very unrealistic (though not Mary sue-ish) character, I was breaking every rule in the book. I would take way too long on RP posts and finding out that the situation I was responding to had past. I was always making my character be the hero. Needless to say, the other RPers hated me and my character.

lol, I remember my n00bness. and I am not afraid to admit it.
I must have pm'ed everyone on my first board like 50 times. the admin, my fellow rp'ers everyone.
But I got bette, co-admined a few even had a few of my own.

I got into RPing almost the same way as MichelleGentry. I was looking for fanifiction, not writing it, and one of the authors on fanfiction.net had a link to her RP site. I checked it out and have been hooked for the past 5-6 years.

Oh... dear... god. Never start rping when you're eleven and insane!

I remember my first board I was so clingy about getting fast replies and such, a trait which I hate now amazingly, and my first post was like a line long with an emoticon for like every word. I looked back on it the other day and almost cried with shame!

But now I'm a 'good' rper... nothing to worry about... right?

I'll share how I got into roleplaying;;
my friend Jenn taught me when I was like, 9. Then a few years {like, two years} later I taught my friend Sharon. Then I taught my friend Mary Catherine. And after that it was Amethyst. And she taught Katie. And then Sharon moved, but me, Amy, and Katie all roleplay on a lot of the same sites. It's kind of hectic xP
