Title: Swing Dance And The Wizarding World
Description: An Interest Thread

Ren - April 19, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
I was wondering today, while listening to my big band music (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Royal Crown Revue, The Brian Setzer Orchestra- you know all those swingin' cats.) and drawing fast-paced cartoons, if there was a good Potter RPG that takes place in the 20's or 30's.

If you've seen me around RPG-D, then you know I don't take kindly to them thar Hogwarts only RPGs - not to say I hate them, no, I was in one once... but that's far too old hat for me. I want only to borrow Rowling's wizarding world, kick out the canons in immediate roleplay and have a party in my yard like Mr. Gatsby.

Now I'm just rambling.

So is anyone interested in this idea? Anyone have a plot that can be shoved into any time period- time on their hands they can use to help me bring this idea to life?

No one D=

(ouch) Looking for someone to start an RPG with, I guess is what I'm saying...

It's a good idea, but you'd likely need something more substantial to build an RPG.

I'm unsure of what you mean...? A little more depth to the concept?

ShinLi - April 22, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
I don't really get your point with this thread. Do you want to get more ideas? Or recruit people to help you out?

Ren - April 22, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Both, really. I want opinions on the idea - I want to know if anyone would be interested in a Potter RPG in this time period before I took any sort of action. In addition, I'd like to know if anyone would help me with the idea if I decided to go through with it.

Edit: Also, am I in the wrong forum? (ouch)

I don't know if you are in the wrong forum...

But I do know that this sounds like a cool idea. I just recently got into the whole swing sceen.
I don't really know of any plots that would work for this idea. And I don't really have time to help make one with you. But if you ever got the board underway, I would join.

That's lovely, thank you. =)

I've been trying to think of a good, original plot to do in my spare time. It will most likely have something to do with wizarding mobs, methinks, and wild parties and tuxedos and the like.

If it was set in the 20s and 30s you could probably have Dumbledore as a student for one of the cannons. I'm not sure of the chap's age but it seems about the right time for him to be kicking around as a youngster dancing the night away.

Too true. (cool) But I don't think I'd allow any canons to be directly played for risk of OOCness.

It could be interesting. And a great chance to ahve completely original characters. I think it would be really cool if it were based in like '20s New York, or Chicago. I haven't been able to find many HP RP's that aren't in Europe.

I have gone through stages of planning to open Potterverse RPG's set in the mid 1940's, so I think a 20's/30's one sounds good. Though canons are great, people like Dumbledore would still be pretty old, and people like Tom Riddle & McG were born in 1925ish so that would cause hassle probably.

But still, 20s/30s sounds great.

Yeah, this sounds like a fab idea, I love past eras. It'd be great to see this forum up in action xx

I would deffinitely think about joining, though the thing that is niggling away at me is why even involve the Potterverse if you don't like it?

A 20s/30s setting would work without magic...

Not that I don't love HP, so I'm not quite sure why I even had that argument with myself. So, scratch everything I just said besides the thinking about joining thing. I love that time period! Darn, if I weren't already tied up with another board and exams, I'd even plot with you.
