Title: Don't You Hate It....

heavenne - April 17, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
when you joined what seems like an awesome rp. Everyone else in it seems awesome. The plot is slowly coming to fruit......

and then someone joins in, and starts posting - but forgets to read the previous posts to see what's going on.

Arrrggg...they just ruin everything. I'm tempted to leave the rp - just when it was getting so interesting. (angry)

I call that a competing vision or a second plot thread. I run in to doing this kind of thing on role plays with rich kids. Sorry, I was a rich teenager and young adult. I know how families of means handle finances. Role plays should be robust enough to handle a second thread or someone with a different point of view. Asking the person writing these kinds of posts to bring in an additional character and create his/her own threads might be a good remedy to this problem. They get to write and you get to write and while he/she won't get much interaction, he/she gets left alone.

heavenne - April 19, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
problem is, this person just keeps on postin...without waiting for anyones turn...... garg..

Serendipity - April 19, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
Well, on both of the role plays I run, people get to create their own plot they they play in. There is a basic outline of a plot that they have to follow, but aside from that, they get to post whatever.

Now, are they betraying the general plot or a specific storyline?

heavenne - April 19, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
I think they're just moving way too fast - doesn't wait for some of us to post...you know how some rpgs have a rule where you wait for others in the plot to post well..this person didn't do it they just went on and on. I just feel it wasn't nice..because others were left behind and so the story is now a bit of a mess.. :\

Daughter of Lumina - April 21, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
That happened to me on a couple of roleplays. This person was completely illiterate, but also completely annoying on top of that. They posted in about five different places all at the same time, and flirted with everything that moved. (x.x) IT really ruined the board for me.

thereisnochoice - April 21, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
that happens to me SO often.. and it drives me nuts but whats worse is if you spend ages on a great post then a 2 liner comes and wrecks it

DemonDiaries - April 24, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Well, that doesn't annoy me that much. Members come, members go. However, it is annoying when people sign up with extremely long usernames like harrypottah4evah392830

I totally agree. I was running a board where this girl who was very illiterate chose a Potter and began jumping around the plots, making herself "friends with benefits" with lots of Slytherin's (tell me, is that possible?) and on top of that when she was posting farther into the future of plots and not waiting for people to slowly move into it she would totally disregard the set out subplot for her. Like, she was suppose to have these strange feelings for a Lupin (or something...) and she couldn't be with him because of her brother, but then for some reason she was kissing anything that walked! I had to warn her, but later my head admin banned her. Yikes.

That is one of the major problems with RPing with other people.
People, more often than not I have seen, do not care about what others think if they aren't meeting face to face.
Think about it. These people that just jump in and are rude, and illiterate, and get kicked off; they more than likely aren't like that in real life. They are doing it cause they can.
Granted I know everyone has bad days, it happens. But when it is every post I get really mad.
I had one person on a site that every time she would post it would look like this:
QUOTE
I dno't nkow why so mayn peple r mad at me. I partsipte and I am nice, but evry1 yells!

It said on the rules of the board to spell check your posts and to use correct English, no net speak. I was so happy when she was kicked off.

Bah I totally know what you guys mean. It sucks -_-

Thing is though, these people always act really nice when out of character, so it's really hard like kicking them off of rpgs, I find anyway. I'm warning you guys though, never make 'friends' with one of them because they get really clingy. I had to change my email address and screen name to get away from one; I know what you mean about wanting to move boards because of them - it's so upsetting cause you meet some really good rpers on the boards too, right?

Whenever I advertise my rpgs now I always make sure that it's known I'm looking for advanced rpers, ha, arrogant or what?

No, lol..I only look for boards that in the rules they state that it is an intermediate to advanced site. I hate when I spent like 30 minutes on a five paragraph post and the next person who comes on writes like two lines.

Matches - April 30, 2007 12:43 AM (GMT)
Thank god - I'm not alone. (tongue)

Thing is when writing rules for boards, I'm never sure what to put, at the moment I have ten sentences rule, but I want a 200 words minimum one, however, I don't think rpgs would grow much if they had such tight restrictions on them, so I'm sticking it out with ten sentences.

But boy it annoys me when people don't write more than a simple paragraph; usually I try to help them out, once I even spent like two hours writing a guide on how to post for a member having difficulty, but they just carried on.

Thing is I know what it's like to be a bad rper, I started rping ages ago, and have got progressively better through others encouragement, which is what I hope to bring to other members who can improve. Although it's annoying, it's also very satisfying watching as a one line poster manages to post a thousand words and more.

naturally talented admin - April 30, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
I totally know what you mean.
When I first started it was on a beginners PG rated Harry Potter site. I god-modded, I Mary-sued I did it all. But there were really nice people that were able to help me got past the bad stages.
Now I try and do the same thing for other people on sites. I am not going to claim that I am the best RPer out there, but I know that I am better than some.

I understand that. Some people just don't want to learn though and are stuck in their ways.

Matches - April 30, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
Yeah, thing is writing less than the required amount is against the rules of the rpg and stuff, but I always feel really bad about upholding those rules - maybe I'm just over sensitive or... something, ha.

As for god modding, I hate it when you're rping with a really talented rpger and then suddenly they start god modding your charrie and you're just like 'what is going on here?' - but because they're so good at rping you don't know what to do... again, probably just me being over sensitive.

I'm in the same boat as you Matches. I sometimes don't enforce the length rule because I know that the member is younger so I cut them some slack. I also do the same thing with grammar if I know that English is not their first language. I also run into dry spells where I can write anything good to save my life so I'm pretty lenient with one or two bad posts.
