Well, I'm hoping that this isn't going to make me sound like a terrible question, but I am really in a tizzy of what to do about this one 'problem'.
There was recently a new member who joined on the site that I run, who was reccomeneded there by a friend, who was a good and active member on the site.
It was no trouble teaching this new member the ropes of role-playing, and he got started soon enough.
But when I was reading his posts, I realized that neither memeber was following the post guidelines (Just to make the post ledgible by spelling words as best as they can and no chat talk) so I warned them both, asking that they watch out for their spelling and grammar.
He ignored me, but the other memeber apologized, and said that they were sorry.
I was going through the posts again, and realized that in addition to not adheering a little to my warning, he had also referred to another member as a (oh, this pains me to say it (sweat) ) a 'fag'.
I closed the post, and let a note explaining why I had closed it.
He then messaged me, asking why I had done that without any warning or for telling him why, and told me that next time 'I shouldn't jump to conclusions.'
I'm not sure what to do about this, I replied to the message, but he seems as disgruntled as ever.
He's a good person, and I don't want to ban him, but if he continues to break the rules, I'm afraid that I'll have no choice...
Is there anyone who can please help meh? (smile)
If he ignores your request for no chat speak, then I believe a little warning is needed, perhaps even a small suspension from the board, no more than a few days though. It's your board, you set rules for a reason, to keep things organized and safe, if they can't be adhered to, you really should ask them [albeit probably force them] to leave the board.
I personally probably would have upped a warning and gave a suspension for the fag remark. Completley uncalled for, I don't care the situation.
It sounds like you're afraid to enforce your own rules. It's always good to set up not only rules, but a set of punishment for breaking the rules and make sure that [at least] all the staff understands the punishments involved with breaking the rules.
If a member ignores warnings, then you obviously take the necessary action. There are no two ways about it. Indecision sets a bad precedent.
