Title: Wanting To Be Able To Play A Variety Of Creatures

Aerozier - July 1, 2010 10:35 PM (GMT)
Genre: All I can say is that I want a place with a large variety of playable species to choose from, or even almost infinite. I'm not interested in real life, historical, or fandoms (loosely based on other stuff is, of course, fine). No "just Greek" or "just Roman" mythology either.
Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced? I'm fine with small word counts (fifty words, one hundred words, things like that), but nothing big. I also like proper grammar everywhere. If your rules aren't properly capitalized and punctuated, but the member posts are, then I still don't like it. Granted, I'm not an expert in English and I'm sure I've made at least one grammatical error in this post. Parentheses can be confusing when there's more than one sentence in them.... Yeah.
Type(s) of Creature(s): I like a huge variety. I want a site where I can play a wide range of creatures from mythology (not just Greek, please, because I see sites based on Greek mythology everywhere and I just don't find Greek mythology to be all that interesting nowadays. No "just Roman," either.), or perhaps even make my own. A limited number is fine, too, if lots of freedom is allowed in creating such characters. Still, being allowed to make whatever I want within reason is a huge, huge bonus.
Preferred Rating: PG-13 or R
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: At least twenty active members would be great. I'm a little iffy about anything with more than one hundred active members. I like to see at least one or two posts being made daily.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Present or near present for the most part. No confusing technology like huge numbers of spaceships and junk. Past is fine, too, as long as it's interesting and my characters have something to do. That's the main problem I tend to have with sites with a technological level behind our own. Don't know why.

Other Notes: First and foremost, no age limits above 16. I know some R-rated sites don't have age limits and I know others do, but I don't like looking through all the info only to find there's an age limit of 17 and up hidden in some backwater place that isn't in the main site rules. 16 and up is fine. 17 and up, don't bother, please.

Also, I reply in my browser. This means that I don't like it when I see the oldest posts nearest the top of the page and the newer posts waaaaay at the bottom and perhaps not appearing at all. If you have a site like that, I won't really look at it unless it's absolutely excellent. It's still annoying to have to scroll up and down much or have to reply in a word processor, though.

No tiny font. I can read it, but it's more difficult than reading the default font and I can lose my place more easily when it's all squished together.

If possible, please don't post just an ad. Tell me about your site yourself. Like... the members and all that stuff. I know some people don't have much to say about their site and just post their ad, but anything, even if just a little bit, other than the ad does add bonus points.

Good site plots are also an added bonus. I know lots of sites are into "having the character affect the world themselves," but I love major site plots that I can get my character to participate in.

Continuing on with the ridiculously long notes (>_>), I would like a site that takes place in a smaller scale area, unless you're listing a fantasy site taking place in the past. Anything modern, sites taking place in areas like cities are preferred.

Friendly staff and members are a must. I don't like over-controlling staff that hog all the canons and/or "powerful" characters on the site, either. I find it quite irksome. Friendly members who welcome newbies is a nice thing to see, too. I don't like being treated like an alien when I pop into the Cbox and say, "Hi," to the members.

I would also like to point out that I'm not really fond of sites where I have to make "x post(s) per day/week/month." It adds pressure, and I have enough on my plate since I'm on five other sites, a few of which I have characters on that require me to post a certain amount of times in a certain time period. If you've got a rule like that in place for important/powerful/canon characters, that's fine. Just not for the regular members.

Umm... yeah, got a bit carried away there. Anyway, if you've read this far, congrats. It's a long post. I doubt that there's a site that meats all of these criteria (except the really important stuff), but it would be pretty awesome, I think. For that reason, if you have a board that meets a good deal of all this junk listed, feel free to post it. Some of those are just personal preference and not really required in a board, but liked. I can adapt if I like a board enough.

Hey to you!

I think Dies Deorum might be the sort of site you're looking for based on what I've read here. We include creatures of any sort of mythology, not just Greek, so there's a wide variety to choose from and sometimes original creations are acceptable (depending on what they are of course XD). No word count and no pressure for posting, only a monthly activity check. You'll also find helpful staff and friendly members.

Dies Deorum is an Urban Fantasy setting with woven elements of
horror and science fiction alongside the primary genre. Player-driven,
it is inclusive of both board-wide plots and small in depth stories.

Within this world there exists all the things humankind once believed
in, born from that very belief and some now waning without it.Walking
parallel to the mundane, you will find the djinn, the fey, the vampiric,
the demonic, werebeasts, the divine, spirits, many others... and their
progeny, Other-blooded mortals with the gifts of their preternatural
ancestors coursing through their veins.

Even so, the world is a mortal world, populated most by said mortals
who spark each new epoch with ingenuity and the stubbornness of their
kind...and are just as much a presence in the setting. The fanatic,
the psychotic, the beautiful, and the bizarre.

This, is Dies Deorum

Okay, so we have about 12 races to pick from, and we're currently writing up a Shapeshifters race which will have around 7 or 8 classes (each with it's own weaknesses and benefits and completely different creatures) which will be super epic and awesome once it's done. But currently, we have everything from adorably colorful creatures called Idimmu (means 'devil') who are refugees from other dimensions, winged humans called Viri, vampires, lycanthropes of all species, Fae, Djinn, and of course lots of human based races like witches, elementals, necromancers, and more. We're set in Seattle, we've got a modern setting wherein most of the major races are, if not out and known about, rumored to exist. It's a pretty great site, and my ad will tell you the rest of it, but you can be assured that we're friendly, love new people, and always welcome new character types, if they are well written and fit within the setting.

We're a modern day, original supernatural(genre)/Urban fantasy site, with a wide and diverse array of races to chose from. Witches, vampires, lycans of all sorts, Djinn, Fae, Elementals, Winged Humans, demons, and more. We have friendly staff who can always be found on the Cbox, and we're a friendly and welcoming community, without the usual cliques and bs you'll find on a lot of sites out there.

It's an active site, with around 30 members at the moment. We like to focus on character development and attention to detail, while still having fun and not limiting creativity.
We let people choose if they want to use a model, celeb, musician, or even have me create a 3d Poser model just for them. We allow both accounts per player, or accounts per character, linked to a 'main' account. We even have a writing challenges board,, IC Twitter, Im's, and email boards, sections for multiple rp's, Solo Rp's, even journals. We also have a gallery, member created playlists, pic request board,'tagging' system, IC and OOC Cboxes, Sub Accounts, Blogs, and facebook-style instant notifications for replies and pm's.
We're self hosted, but please don't let that scare you off; it's really no different from any other board host. We use BBcode and html, (there's even a quick trick to get Dohtml working), and we are very newbie friendly. We're used to 'self-host' virgins so we'll walk you through anything you need help with!

Our app's are short, basic questions like age, height, etc, with the focus being on the history, no official word count but a suggested goal of 200+, although a lot of us average anywhere from 500-1500 words, and more.
We're also very laid back, encouraging members to register and hang around getting to know people rather than demanding applications be posted the minute you join.

So please give us a look, and if you have any questions, please catch us on the cbox!

Hi! I think you should take a look at Box of Horrors; we're an original fantasy rp in a world where Pandora unleashed all the evil [vampires, were-creatures, demons, faeries, ect]. Among the evil, the horrific Queen Annabella reigns supreme, though it may not last much longer. The main plot on the site revolves around the revolutionists who are planning to overthrow her majesty. We don't have many members at the moment because we just opened, but the ones we have are friendly, active, and excited for the site. We still have quite a few important canons left if you'd like to play someone who's definitely important to the fight, or you can create one yourself. If you decide you wanna swing by, all of the important links are in my signature. If you have any questions feel free to pm me here or on th site [I play Queen Annabella].

Marked sounds like it may be what you are looking for. :)

We are a modern fantasy/gifted roleplay that is set around, but not limited to, a boarding school. And no need to worry, because we definitely have a huge (i.e. infinite) number of fantasy races to choose from. They come in two broad categories called Half-Breeds or Daemos and you can choose from previously player-created races or create your own when you submit your application.

Now, let's see if we can cover all of your requirements.

Let's see, we have no word count and an active player base. At the moment, we probably have a little less than 20 active members, so we're more of a small to medium-sized forum. We have a borderline R rating, so we allow any and all themes, just ask that the writing does not get too into the gritty details of sex or intense violence/gore. The forum takes place in a made-up city located in Massachusetts. And I definitely think we have a very friendly playerbase and staff (though that is entirely up to opinion, of course). And we have overarching site plots that we are always trying to properly run and manage. Our forum will be switching over to the summer months in less than a week and we have a new site plot that will be starting then. I only hope our members will find it as interesting as I do. :)

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on Marked or send me a PM here!

Good luck with your search.

The year is 2009 and Rochester Academy is opening its doors for the
first time. Its handpicked students are arriving from across the globe,
looking forward to, or perhaps even dreading the grand education their
parents have been promised. But is it just coincidence that every student
at this school is Marked?

They are humans with power and a long forgotten history, known only
by the tell-tale marks imprinted on their skin. The Marked had once
protected the world against other-wordly threats, Demons and Monsters
that are now believed to be nothing but childish stories and old myths.
But the Marked are rising once again, and some say the creatures of
darkness will soon follow.

Hey there! You may be interested in Under the Full Moon. We have a variety creatures you can pick from, plus its almost limitless with the fact that you can essentially create your own =) We're pg-13 to R at the highest, and though we don't have at least 20 active members, we do have people for you to roleplay with, myself included ^-^ We're small and welcoming, so you won't feel left out if you decide to join us.

More about the plot of the site, UTFM takes place in something of a past-like scenario. Everyone lives in a city called Eden, which is protected by a magical barrier from the outside world. They have a fair amount of technology, like electric lights and the like, but because of their isolation, they don't have things like tvs and computers. There are shops, a college, and different housing districts for every species. Well, here's our ad~

Welcome to Eden
This is the safe haven for all beings magical. Here you can find anything your heart desires, as long as you have magic running through your veins. Things in Eden have been quiet for over a thousand years, since the separation of magic from man. But now, the barrier between the two is thinning, and Eden is in danger of being discovered by the humans that the magical creatures had left behind. The magic that has been hiding Eden deep within the Great Forest is faltering, and it’s up to the magical peoples of the forest haven to unite and strengthen the protective barrier, else all magic be lost in the terrible selfishness of mankind.
Just a Little Touch of Magic
Become something more than you are in this part modern, part fantasy, and part medieval role play. Vampires strut around, elves guard and play, faeries keep the elemental balance, werewolves keep to their own, demons do as they please, and the witches and wizards concoct magical potions that you’d do well to avoid. Necromancers, however, may challenge this, thus the elves have been charged to watch over their castle on the outskirts of Eden.
Have a Nice Afterlife
Which magical rank will you join, as the barrier begins to break and magic’s peaceful existence is threatened? Choose wisely…the fates of the races hang in the balance, as well as the fate of all mankind.

Strings of Chaos might just be the place for you. The world of Azalar is rich with creatures of all shapes and sizes, NPC and PC. There are four basic species [Gargoyle, Dragon, Dragon Convert, Human] to choose from but with plenty of classes for each [Humans for examples can be Beastmasters and bond with an animal which in turn gives them shifting abilities]. I invite you to come and see if this medievel fantasy suits what you seek. Good luck with the search ^_^

I think you might enjoy Faerun. We don't quite fit into your preferred time requirements but we literally have hundreds upon hundreds of races / creatures you can choose to play from. Go ahead and check us out, and feel free to pop a question in the cbox. There's almost always a staffer on (we all live on different continents) and we don't bite :3

Also, I know our advertisement says 17+ but in truth we don't have an age requirement. I've been on the site for a year now and I just turned 16 in June :p

Hi

Sure it's a lot of boxes to have ticked but why shouldn't you be picky about what you want. At least you actually know what you want and it's not an request of a couple of lines.

Anyway, all that said, I think we can offer you most of what you're asking for. I went down the list and said yes to most things. So why are you hanging around, go and check us out.

Since I've been advertising we've had new members every day so far, and it's getting super active, with most of the site posting every day too. Don't worry though, you won't be pestered to post.

We don't allow cliquey-ness, and all the admins and members are really friendly.

Okay here you go for the official stuff.

As humanities final war wages on it began to consume the planet, taking the lives of thousands of their own kind. Rivers, estuaries, beaches looked of blood. Forests were stripped of leaves. Fields pot-marked by artillery shells. Cities cried out in terror as they began to crumble. Fighting over needlessly over planetary resources, fresh water, crude oil, timber, coal. As the suffering of human noncombatants increased, something stirred…

Deep with in the land set the divider, the barrier between the worlds. This alone kept the eye from seeing what once walked the Earth in a time long forgotten. But like all inventions and spell work it too had its weakness, its breaking point and break it did. Oh not at first no first it all started with a small crack but soon it gave way. Like a mighty hand letting loose reigns, which had been held tight for ages, Everything that humans wrote off as myth came out of hiding staying the human hand as they were about to let loose the hellfire of their most powerful weapons.

With the human war machine ground to a halt, the chosen leaders of all the sects of the mythical world stated their intentions to the said world. To bring order where mankind had failed and with it a new era of coexistence once more. Some humans saw them as saviors others as unnecessary meddlers. As they kept to their word. Within months with the use of magick the human world was on the road to recovery, under a watchful gaze. But this gaze is torn for within their own ranks the mythical world battled silently

While some liked the idea of coexistence and reeducation others sought to exterminate mankind and take back “their” world. So now with man constantly looking over it’s shoulder hate gathered in select minds. The two halves of the same world finds itself spilt once yet again. Some say the world will end in fire some say in ice. Do you hold the answer, will you walk the path?

Hey! I think I may have just the right site for you! Lol, it might almost be perfect! xD
Okay, the name of the board is Roanoke City! Its a hi-fantasy board set in an alternalte city hidden from humans where otherworldly creatures roam. All sorts of creatures! Shifters, Vampires, Nekos, Angels, Demons, Supernaturals, Lycans, Magic-weilders etc. Anything you can possiblly think the board is made so that you can make your charather anyway you see fit.
There are some cannons, so you can get your characther involed in some of the major plot for the site, and then somes that the members may need for their own plots.
We have a low/no word count, though many of our members are intermediate to advance, but there is no pressure. Set in the present, and have friendly mature members.
Actively; we have recently revamped, and now we are steadily growing so things may be a bit slow. You joining would greatly help us out. :) Though if this is a problem for you, but would like to keep taps on the sites activetly PM me and i'll keep you posted it.

Check it out?
