Problem With: User groups
Problem: When someone registers, they immediately get sorted into the "Navy" member group; not validating. I'm aware I have to alter something, but not sure where.

Well to my knowledge, the only reason someone would be sorted into validating would be if they didn't get the email. Most people get the email seconds after they've made the account, so they were probably validating but for only a tiny amount of time. Very few people actually stay as validating, usually it only happens when they don't get an email.
However, the problem may also be your Usergroups. For instance, if you edited your Validating usergroup to be Navy, then that may be the problem.
People only get sorted into "validating" when they register when you have email validation switched on - but then once they validate their emails they will change the the default "Member" group.
but on your board, it seems, they will get sorted into "Navy" because you must have edited the dafault group IF calls "Member" - this is the group that newly registered members will ALWAYS be sorted into, so what you'll need to do is create a new group called "Navy" and rename the current "Navy" to be "Member" again.
