Title: If To Zetaboards, Will You Upgrade?
Description: And PB owners, your thoughts about ZB?
ShinLi - January 23, 2007 01:32 PM (GMT)
There is one major thing that I'm wondering at the moment, and that is how many of the Invisionfree owners will upgrade to Zetaboards when the time comes? There are loads of IF boards in the Directory, and it is a current subject all administrators have to think about carefully now.
So, Invisionfree board owners, will you upgrade to the Zetaboards software, or will you stay with the Ivisionfree software, and why? And if you stay with the Invisionfree software, will you upgrade to a later point when there are more documenations and mods available?
And another question that interested me, what do the Proboard owners think of this new upgrade of software that Invisionfree is offering us? What do you think about Zetaboards? Do you think that some of the features ZB offers will be very helpfull for RPG boards? And maybe another question, when Zetaboards comes out, would you maybe considere coming over to Zetaboards?
IF you haven't read much about ZB, there's an announcement here on the forum with links to the official annoucnement on IF support and a link to the ZB Beta Test forum.
Discuss away, I'm very interested!

I'm thinking that I'll make a test board first and try it out for a long while before upgrading. If there's something that is a wow factor I'll upgrade but if most of the features aren't too amazing I might not bother.

Owh, just for notices, we will be able to register a test board before that actual upgrade from IF to ZB. That was told in the official announcement. So you'll be able to test out ZB from head to toe before your own forum actual gets upgraded.

For me, I really think it all depends on the skinning and coding abilities. I'm finally quite content with the way my board is, and I'm not so sure I'm ready to jump into something else that I'll have to figure out all over again.
So perhaps a while after Zetaboards are out, I'll switch over, but not immediately. :]
I'll definitely be running a test board, though. XD

If you upgrade, your board forums and topics don't move over do they? You just start out all over? I might just make a test board...

I feel like a noob, Zeta boards?

Yes, everything will move, it's just an upgrade of forum software. Nothing will be lost, no threads, no post, no member accounts.
Mako, have a read in the announcements forum, you will find links there to the official annoucnement and the Beta test board.
In short, Zetaboards is a new forum software written from scratch by Brandon (owner of IF). It has been in development since about two years now, and this weekend he finally openend a Beta Test board of the Zetaboards software for all Invisionfree board owners and members to become aquinted with this new forum software, have a look how it looks and discover new features. The point that Zetaboards was developed is that the Invision software isn't their own software, but they bought a license to use it, Zetaboards will be software completly their own, so now Brandon and staff will be free to change things as they like and add more features.
You can read more on the official support forum, and loads more on the Beta Test forum.

Same for me, I won't upgrade right away. I want to first see what kinds of problems other boards have when upgrading and wait for them to all be ironed out before I make my own switch. :D I'll also want to spend a lot of time messing with the test board and adjusting everything to fit the new software so that the change goes well. I don't want to jump the gun and then not have all of our important codes and everything not working, I'll be busy fixing everything up for some time after the upgrade.

If I upgrade it will be long after it is released. However, after looking at the Beta Zeta Board, I am not sure if I want to upgrade. I don't like how they have the right side of the rows set up on the main page. It seemed sort of... Unattractive? I am not sure what to call it, I just did not like it. I also do not care for the Sign In/Out, Preferences, and Inbox being above the banner. Yes, I am picky. :p
But if the layout is a bit different, and after all the bugs and stuff are worked out, I may upgrade. That will also depend on how much work it will be considering the skins and codes as well though.

I just realized / noticed that there's a solution for at least this little aspect. ^_^ If you've registered at the beta test board then you can change skins, and the "classic" skin has it so that the preferences and stuff are below the banner like they used to be. I'm pretty sure that the new ways of skinning will have some pretty nice flexibility, I've seen some tasty morsels of stuff to look forward to in that aspect.
This has been my random input of the day. ^_^

Yeh, you should really try out the differnt themes (skins) they have there and switch between them to see changes between different themes. Like that you'll find out possibilities of the themes.
