My interwebz at home is DSL, and it's pretty fast for a) New Zealand internet, and b) how far away I live from the city.
When I'm at my best friend's house I log on to a random unsecured network. I figure there's two reasons why people don't bother putting passwords on their internet, and that's because a) they like hacking into the computers of the people to take advantage, or b) they're just plain internet illiterate. Or c) they're lazy. So three reasons. My laptop hasn't been hacked since I've been using it so I'm guessing they're not a ^^;

aha my wireless is not protected, mainly because I'm lazy. But I've got a network monitor and I've never seen a device I did not know try to log on so I don't even bother.

High speed cable. I think. Heh. Internet is included in my rent, so I'm actually not sure.
