Title: Shouldn't There Be A Forum Review Service?
Sapphire_flame - January 6, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
I really would like something like that here.

That'd actually be something nice to have, it makes sense to me for it to fit in here. It'd take some extra staff members, maybe, but I'd definitely come by to help give advice if there were reviews. ^_^

Well that's the problem, the extra staff members, which are sadly very hard to find. We need quality reviewers, which are very hard to find, we now have Mortal as only reviewer, but with the ammount of members I at least want 3 to 4 reviewers, otherwise I think we'll have a backlog in a week.
We're still working on it, but I'm not very confident in getting it anytime soon, I think we got review applications up for the third time now, and still we didn't get proper submissions that I was like 'that one would be sufficent to be a reviewer'.

Hmm. We could perhaps get more interest in the application and reviews if there was an announcement about it asking specifically for people that are interested in applying? We could also allow members to contribute to the reviews, maybe, something. But meh, they're just my thoughts if you're interested in an opinion, I can't help but try and solve problems when I hear about them.

I dont think member reviewing is a good idea. Most of the time you get people who are just parousing around and say something along the lines of "Nice idea, skin could use some work though." Ok, what about it makes it a nice idea? What exactly is wrong with the skin? It's things like that that we don't want.
We have done applications, in both the announcement board, the old Job Pinboard and now we have a section on the main page that say's we're hiring. You dont think that that is sufficent? I didnt even think that the main board forum was needed, but comparatively to the old submissions we got for staff, this is much more efficent than usual.
If your interested in having your board reviewed, find us some people who can review, that's all I can really say. We've tried. And while we wont give up, it happening sometime in the near future just doesnt seem like a feesable option at the moment.

I understand what you're saying Horsecrzy, but for that very same reason is why you should give people a chance. You can't honestly tell by one application and a Forum Review if they would be good for the job. Sure, you can get an idea and eliminate people on the spot, but you can't see if they'll be good in the field over a long period of time.
So, maybe you could try giving the applicants a chance. There are plenty of them, meaning that there are plenty to go through. Who knows, you may strike oil ^^

Aren't normal Members allowed to review boards as well? Seeing as I have seen some people posting comments in those areas once or twice, because currently it is I beileve possible, even if those comments are meager.

I think this would be an awesome idea, but I understand that the admins only want to put people who know what they're doing in the reviewer position and if the people who apply can't meet their standards, then there's not much they can do about it.

Members are perfectly welcome to post comments in the Directory areas, we are talking about an actual forum area where people can request their board to be professionally reviewed. As in long paragraphs and actual insight on what someone thinks of your board. Reviewers will be looking over quite a few aspects of your board, unlike some member comments where they take a quick scan, look at the plot and post something. Not that I'm saying that's what all members do, but it is the general idea for the posts in the Directory area.

I think this topic has been solved, so there is no point in more posting really.
If you have suggestions on the topic, feel free to open a new topic or pm me.
