Title: Instruments?

Andy - April 8, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Instruments?

YEH?! So what if i'm finding topics elsewhere and thinking they are worth putting here?! Hehe, maybe I'm just going insane...

What instruments do you play, and if you dont play any, is there one you would like to, or one you particularly like?

I play, bass guitar, electric guitar (bit sucky at rhythm, but lead is good), piano, and when I was very little I liked the recorder... meh... don't play anymore.

Strings rule! :D

River Angel Odin - April 8, 2006 09:18 PM (GMT)
I think I've mentioned this about 20 times on this site, but...I adore my instruments, so I don't mind saying it again. ^__^

I play the violin, flute, the piccolo, and I sing. I focus more on my violin than anything else, though.

I'm in one of the Youth Orchestras (OSYO) nearby, although...I hate it. =/ It's been going downhill for about two years now and this year'll probably be the last one. Even if it's not, I'll be switching to RIPYO, another youth orchestra, next year.

I'm in my school band, too. A freshman and 2nd chair, 1st flute in the top band. ^__^ I'm quite proud. I think I'm only sitting there, though, because of my dad. My dad's a big, well-known music teacher who knows the band director at my school. Well, my band director's never heard me play (before the schoolyear started, anyway) and he just decided to stick me 2nd chair in the top band. o_O

As for choir, I ended up being in the morning choir at school because I can't fit it in my schedule during the day. I'm also in my church's choir, which I'm always making fun of because it's terrible. The fact that it's run by my school's French teacher makes me laugh, too. XD

And, for the record, I want an electric violin! *dies*

Melly - April 8, 2006 10:58 PM (GMT)
Alright so musical instruments...

I played Flute through school, 5 years of Flute, two years ago i decided to join the schools Jazz band and started Trombone, so I am a self taught trombonist. Played Trombone for a year and a half, and for a self taught trombonist i must say i was pretty good, almost as good as the people who had been playing since 4th grade.

Then i played piano for years, hated my teacher so i hated the instrument. Now i no longer take lessons but i do play around ont he piano from time to time, it helps me with my singing. Its my singing that really takes over my life.

I sing in the schools choir, first thing in the morning, its not that fun. I also sing in the school's Women's Ensomble and am in the school Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Outside of school I sing in my church's Praise and Worship Team, basically we provide the music for the Lifeteen mass and occasional events in and out fo church. We mostly sing contemporary and modern Christian Rock (as heard on Starr99.1). Casting Crowns "Who am I" and MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine" are probably two of our best songs.

AS for instruments i want to learn... i'd love to learn guitar again. I failed miserably last time i tried to learn, i learned on an awful accoustic, it always was out of tune, even if you tried to tune it. Also i tried to learn from my piano teacher who i hated.

Insomnium - April 8, 2006 11:04 PM (GMT)
I mess around with the guitar.

I've played piano for almost ten years.

And my main instrument is my saxophone! His name is currently Simon the IV. Yes, there were others... they're alive and well... It's just that it's school owned so I get a new one every year. They're rather expensive instruments I guess. Oh yes... I should also add that it's a Tenor Sax.

sheepgirl - April 9, 2006 02:24 PM (GMT)
I play drums, piano, little bass guitar, little guitar, violin (though I'm making an effort to forget how to play)

I love rock music just for the record.

Andy - April 9, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
Someone join our band as a guitarist... the rhythm guitarist is beginning to annoy...

sheepgirl - April 9, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
LLF I would volunteer but all I can do is play about 10 chords.

Andy - April 9, 2006 04:33 PM (GMT)
WOW You hired, thats probably more than he knows...

sheepgirl - April 9, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
lol Nah I think I'll sitck to my drums :D

Leo - April 9, 2006 04:42 PM (GMT)
I drum, Sing and is currently learnign to play bass :D

Drums is good fun for when you are annoyed, singing is annoying, espically when you have a saw through, but Bass is just great fun, 3 different ways of aplying, all can be palyed depending on your mood :D

sheepgirl - April 9, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
I broke a drum skin once cos I played too violently when I was annoyed

SilentGhost - April 9, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
I play bass guitar. In the School band i play Bass Clarinet, Clarinet, and Bass drum but mostly bass drum.

ShinLi - April 9, 2006 08:10 PM (GMT)
Well I played flute, you know just those wooden flutes for two years in primary school. After that I started with playing keyboard. I had been on keyboard lessons for urhm.... four years. In the third year of my keyboard lessons I also got into a band. After I stopped with the keyboard lessons I continued to play in the band. About two years ago I stopped with playing with them, mainly because I'm not that good of a keyboard player. Also I didn't practice much anymore, mainly because I didn't enjoy the band anymore. So I went out of the band, sold my keyboard and didn't make anymore music myself.

Mad_madeye - April 9, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
 Wow. Major coincidence, Shin. Played keyboard and quit aswell about two or three years ago...

Ahem, anyway... Yeah, I played keyboard since I was seven or something and I enjoyed it a lot, although I never was in a band or something. I used to have an awesome teacher, but then she quit and was stuck with some boring guy and I eventually gave up on it... I still have my keyboard though and I may be taking it up again...

bunnysocks - April 11, 2006 01:46 AM (GMT)
I play piano and played the cello for several years. I'm not too musically inclined, in relation to all of you guys who sound like complete progidies.

I'd love to play the drums, or be able to sing.

alexandra - April 11, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
I can make my way around a keyboard, but that's pretty much it, I'd rather sing ...

Tourniquet - April 11, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
Used to play the sax.

trix - May 14, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
Im a bit of a rock chick, me ^_^ I play rhythm and bass guitar and once I learn to play them both perfectly, I'll learn electric! I'd really love to play drums, too. You know what they say, its all about rhythm. If you're good at bass you'd more than likely be good at drums!

Andy - May 15, 2006 04:42 PM (GMT)
A bassist! Nice! I'm learning my next bassline in a min lol. You know, I was thinking of learning drums after aswell (am learning eletric atm lol) but I dunno where I would put them lol. Also, that wouldnt leave me with as much money left as I would like lol.

^_^

Doc - May 15, 2006 04:54 PM (GMT)
I play the tenor sax frequently for school -nod- I also own a guitar which doesn't get as much play time as the sax, but I take lessons, so it's all good. I quit piano lessons a while back but I've gotten interested in it again, suprisingly, so I may switch next year from guitar to piano. I'm still not sure yet.

Voice.. I have no voice, lol. I wouldn't be able to read notes off of a page and transmit them into my voice to save my life. I'll stick with my treble clef reading skills xD

I'm definitely a band geek though. Hang out in the music room every lunch hour xD

Horsecrzy721 - May 15, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
Oh I cant beleive I never posted in here.

Ok well for my first instrument I ever actually learned it was the french horn. Dont ask why, my teacher pratically forced it on me. Then I gave up the bulky piece of crap and changed to the flute, which I liked a lot more and was WAY better at. Then when I moved up to the infamous High School I had to give up the flute because band takes up a period in our day, that I had to use for another class. So now my flute sits in my room and doesnt get played anymore.... Sad I know, but it had to happen.

Cyphon - May 15, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
Ohhhh yay music is fun. I play a variety of instruments (tuba, sax, clar, flute in band, acoustic guitar, snare, bass, piano) but the baby grand I have at home is like a second mother to me. She's been there all my life, and I've always been able to count on her to let me translate my feelings into sounds.

Go piano!

lol but marching band ownz all.

Mortal - May 16, 2006 01:07 AM (GMT)
I mentioned it before in another thread, but, hey. B: I've been playing the trumpet since June 2005 for the school band and guitar since October 2005. I was thinking of taking up a third instrument (perhaps the viola or the mandolin, I'm not sure if I'll have the time needed for another instrument) this summer. I'll have to see though, because as it stands the trumpet is pretty neglected outside of school and I've gotta work on that if I want to juggle three instruments at a time. ^_^

Ahh yay for bassists! ^_^ I've got four guitars at the mo and I've got this TINY room, so they're all piled on top of each other. No room for drums unless I sleep on them! Still, I'd love to learn. I was messing about playing them before and it's like I said - you need to have rhythm to play bass and to play drums, so it kinda came easily. When I'm rich and famous I'll buy me some drums :)

'Quel - May 17, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
I PLAY THE VOICE!

Silly, I know.

Nah, I grunt and screech and sing in a band. My fellow band members aren't so fond of me grunting or screeching (Think Dani Filth) as it hurts their ears and creates this wonderful PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! that will last for hours and hours after.

I love it, though. Not the peeping, just the grunting and screeching. YAY FOR DEATH/BLACK METAL, RAAAAWR! \m/ Rock on, bitches!

Sane Insanity - May 21, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
I play violin...in my school's orchestra. XD

I would LOVE to learn to play the drums. But, my mom is always telling me how we don't have any space in our house, and how it would be to nousy and stuff. So I guess that's a no-go. Lmao.

~Jess~ - May 22, 2006 07:11 AM (GMT)
I play the violin, keyboard and I sing. Kinda suck at the violin but I'm getting better. I love singing but I kinda sound like Ashley Tisdale ^_^

I'm also sorta of a rock chick. I've been wishing to play the bass, guitar and drums. But my mom told me I could learn one of those when I master my violin.

Jonathan - June 13, 2006 05:47 AM (GMT)
BUMP! Again, sorry, about music :). Hahah!

Instruments :P. I started playing the piano when I was four years old... That's like, 12 years ago? Haha! Still playing it but I seldom practise these days. I play the guitar also. Started 2 years ago. Am playing lead in my band now. Hahah! For bass guitar, I'm just a basic bassist, only know what note to play that's all. Don't do rolls or any fancy slapping and snapping the bass... HAha! Well, my primary instrument is non other than drums :). Started 3 years ago. Still learning but not to boast, am good in it now. Only need to learn some new stuff and constant practise with the metronome :). Hahah!

I very much want to learn how to play the flute and cello. I'll wait till I enter university then join some classes there. HAhah!

Taya - June 13, 2006 09:52 PM (GMT)
I play the triangle. Isn't that amazing? It takes so much skill. I know you're all jealous. hehehe j/k xD but yeah, I actually used to play the triangle in band...and I played the violin at one time, but I was bad at it...I've previously played the piano, but got bored...so yeah...I can play the triangle. One note, its perfect...

CherryKiss - June 16, 2006 01:12 AM (GMT)
Air guitar! ;D

No, I don't play anything. ^^; I really want to learn to play bass though. I have no clue as to why...o___O

Rosaline - June 28, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
I play keyboard a little and its ok and all...but i have a passion for an instrument called a Dobro

for those of you who might think i'm insane and making it up...a dobro is an accoustic guitar with a resonator in it...the squareneck dobro, is played on its back with a bar...and its got a very "twangy" sound...

Aimee - June 29, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
Piano, violin, and a bit of cello. My fingers hurt a lot after practicing 0___________0

Latios1717 - June 29, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
The only things I ever played were the Viola and the Recorder.

Wiflewood - June 29, 2006 08:16 AM (GMT)
I play Piano/Keyboard. I'm on grade 2 now, I have my exam next week.

MishMoo - June 29, 2006 01:03 PM (GMT)
Music = <3 of my life.

I play the clarinet and a bit of piano, and that's it for instruments. However, I am taking a piano class in school next year so maybe I'll learn the art of the pedal and just overall good technique, =P.

My biggest passion of all is singing. During the school year, I am a part of five different choirs: My regular school choir, the "Select Choir" which rehearses afterschool, an area Children/Teen choir, my church's Adult choir and my church's Yout choir. You have to audition for the Select and area Teen choir.

Alex Thropp - June 29, 2006 09:43 PM (GMT)
Music = love.

I play the violin professionally, 6 years. I have played the cello, but not professionally. I do wish to play guitar and piano, but I've been too busy with violin to take time to try them.

Juniper Snow - July 10, 2006 05:29 PM (GMT)
Keyboard/Piano and Guitar <3

WhiteLight - July 10, 2006 11:46 PM (GMT)
All the intruments I play I play as part of my band. They are:

Electric Bass Guitar: I'm still learning this, but the only reason I'm learning it is because I suck at drums and my band doesn't have a rythym section. The only drummer we know doesn't do bands, so unless we can find someone I'm it.

Keyboard/Piano: Again, I'm still learning but I can play if I need to. Thankfully, I rarely do as both the other members of YAGB play keyboard much better than me.

Vocals: I seriously suck as a lead vocalist, so I'm mostly backup vocals. My voice isn't very strong, and I have a limited range(thankyou smokers), but I do a couple of duets with our lead vocalist and it turns out all right.

Oh, and if any of you are wondering what/who YAGB is, it's my band. YAGB stands for Yet Another Garage Band.

MusicalAsylum - July 11, 2006 05:38 AM (GMT)
Let's see ... instruments I play ... my main thing saxophone, any type of sax really. But I stick with Monty, my newest alto. I've had other altos that all belong to me ... I've never had to use a school's sax yet! The others I've just given to friends that I've taught to play - like this year I gave Shelly to Theresa, my best friend, whom I've deemed well enough that she no longer needs me to stalk her ... as you can see I'm definatly mostly into the alto sax. Though I've played flute, clarinet, trumpet, tuba, guitar, and some others ... like the flugle horn! I'm not sure if I've spelled that right, but oh well.

I also have a very large backround in singing. That my poor fingers are not going to type out for you at the moment. So we'll just say that I'm obsessed with music, shall we?

Arianne Stark - July 11, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
Ah, music. My entire family has always been very music-oriented, so I was kind of forced into a lot of it. I've been playing violin since I was five--so, thirteen years. It's odd that I play so much more now that I don't have an orchestra class than I did when I actually had stuff to play for a grade. Huh.

Piano, erm, six years? Dunno. It's something that I picked up because we have a piano in the house, and my mom's a brilliant pianist. I haven't practiced in a long while (no piano in my dorm room), so I'm really not that good any more.

I also used to be quite good at playing the dulcimer. I didn't practice enough in high school (I peaked around seventh grade, probably), so I can only play a song or two.

And the coolest instrument ever: the hammer dulcimer. I can pick out a couple of songs, but no amount of practice has ever really helped me. I've been told it should work just like a pinao, but I don't see it. Still good for 'Amazing Grace' on Christmas Eve, though.

Vocals? I'm good enough to sing in the shower, in the car, and was in choir when I was in elementary school (hey--I had a solo in one of the shows, thank you very much!). Haven't sung in a group since I was in fifth grade, and I'm certainly no American Idol.
