Bet I am the ONLY one who lives in Manila, Philippines.....

ShinLi - May 2, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)
That is so cool ^_^. I always wanted to go to New Zealand. When I was small I used to mix up that country with a province here in the Netherlands, which is called 'Zeeland' so in english it would be 'Zealand' lol. *will visit there sometime in the future*

Circus - May 2, 2006 09:32 AM (GMT)
I think New Zealand was actually named after that place XD The guy that first discovered New Zealand came from Zeeland so they just editted the spelling and shoved "New" at the front and ta-dah! That's what I've been told, anyway.

ShinLi - May 2, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
Haha, that could be, lets have a look on wikipedia (it has aalll the anwsers lol)

Edit:

QUOTE
The first Europeans known to have reached New Zealand were led by Abel Janszoon Tasman, who sailed up the west coasts of the South and North Islands in 1642. He named it Staten Landt, believing it to be part of the land Jacob Le Maire had discovered in 1616 off the coast of Chile. Staten Landt appeared on Tasman's first maps of New Zealand, but this was changed by Dutch cartographers to Nova Zeelandia, after the Dutch province of Zeeland, some time after Hendrik Brouwer proved the supposedly South American land to be an island in 1643. The Latin Nova Zeelandia became Nieuw Zeeland in Dutch. Lieutenant James Cook subsequently called the archipelago New Zealand

You are right ^_^

Circus - May 2, 2006 10:31 AM (GMT)
Nova Zeelandia.. that sounds cool. I'm going to call New Zealand that from now on. Heh heh :pirate:
