Title: Suggestion...

Most sites do evaluations for the rpgs or for graphics or even posts... I have never seen a place that helped you with character profiles before though.... helping you work the kinks out, you know. Not with the stuff that is specific to each rpg (though if it is real life or harry potter or something familiar you could do that too) but help people that find their apps declined a lot or people having trouble making their histories long enough, ect. I dunno, just an idea.
Even just a character spotlight like the portfolio where people can put characters they absolutely love for people to read and comment on. Everytime I make a new character I want to share them, lol.

Oh, I would adore a section like this - I know I'd love some crit on some of my characters, and I love browsing through character profiles at sites and reading them.

There's some situations where it's a bad thing though. For instance, if someone puts up a profile that isn't even close to what your "good profile" standard is. Sometimes people can get really mean and you can get your feelings hurt pretty bad =/

It's a nice idea--I have something similar on my site--but aren't you worried about people stealing?

You run this risk with anything you post for evaluations, it would have to a monitored thing, just like any other board on the site. You could have specific staff doing evaluations or if it was just like a character showcase, it would be like the profile. People of all skills post there as well to get constructive cristism.

Again, when you post a profile on any rpg, what is stopping visitors from taking it off there? What is stopping people from copying anything really except us telling them not to?

Well, let me comment on this shall we :D.
I think it's quite a good idea, and it would add something extra to RPG-D that I think other RPG advertising sites have not. Roleplay Talk is already a very active forum, so I suppose this could be an extra board added in that catagory.
To prevent stealing by guests this forum will only be readable by members, guests will not see it.
Further I was thinking to prevent mean comments that a member could put in the title description what sort of Character Profile it is, Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Also of course any members who will make mean commenst will be warned, because that is not allowed on RPG-D. This forum is for constructive critism, not for flaming or making people feel bad.
The best would be to keep this 'evaluations' open for everybody to comment on. To be honest I don't think I can hire even more people seeing today even more spots are open for applicatants.
And of course some good rules should be pinned there that if anyone rips a character profile, even if it might be a part for instance the history, we will try to punish that person. And mostly RPG admins are on RPG-D's side, so I don't think that would cause that many problems. And if it causes a lot of stealing problems the forum could always be taken off again.
We could even make three subboards in this 'evaluation' forum for each of the three RPG difficulties. And if people don't really want an evaluation we could also add an extra forum for Character Showcasing, the same idea with the Graphics Showcase.
Let me know what you think of my ideas.

What you said up there is pretty good! Great work :)

I personally love the idea, we have a character workshop on my board and it's definitely helped people.

I agree- the more opinions the better.

On my forum I try and stay away from too many subboards, so I was thinking you could also have people put it in the topic description (but of course, your choice). The character showcase seems like it would be a great way for newer RPers to see some examples of really great characters.

I'm proud my idea is going to be used. :) On to my real comments..
That sounds perfect ShinLi, pretty much just I imagined it. I would prefer the board be open to all comments myself, from what I have seen, most people here understand the concept of constructive critism.
The only problem with people saying what their level is though, is not everyone knows what there level is. I would probally put myself between Moderate and Advanced but I know other people would group me higher and some would group me lower... I guess that is what moderators are for though, moving threads around that get posted in the wrong spot ;)
plaidbutterfly - November 26, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
That sounds just about perfect, but again, I wouldn't know where to place myself, and some people may place themselves higher or lower depending on how they view their own characters - having a mod sort them might be the best measuring stick, but that's time consuming I'm sure.
A free-for-all might just be the best idea, stressing that the forum is for constructive criticism, not just whee-lookit-what-a-neat-character-I-got ;P

I think just putting what level you believe youself to be in the topic description would be good enough. Not really sure if all of those sub boards are needed.
Other than that, I do think it is a good idea and would fit well in Roleplay Talk.
