A member has brought an e-mail scam to my attention. This person send her an e-mail via RPG-Directory. This person is a member on RPG-D, and it could be this person e-mailed more RPG-D members.

Further this member claimed to be a staff member of RPG-D. I can state that this is not true as we would never send such an e-mail to any of our members.

Please do not reply to this e-mail, the member has been suspended from RPG-Directory.

Could the members who received this e-mail either post here or pm me? So we can see how many members we're actually e-mailed by this person.

I received an e-mail from a member here. But I don't think it was some sort of scam... Well it was telling me to invest my money ro something... Is that the e-mail being reffered to?

Yes it is. And that is an e-mail scam. If someone is asking you to invest money into something you have no clue what that is, it is a scam e-mail. Such people cannot be trusted. So you should never reply to such e-mail.

Good thing you didn't. Never respond to such e-mails where they ask for investments, information about your money and more. And if your not sure what to do with an e-mail, to respond or not, aks your parents and let them read the e-mail.

This is why I put the setting on for my email to be hidden. I advise anyone (who does not care about people sending them emails or doesn't want them) to turn on the setting for your email to be hidden as well unless entirely needed. This way this never happens to you.

The person obviously avoided to e-mail the staff members. So this person knew really well what he/she was doing.

You can do what photoshop_girl said by going to your 'My Controls' > Options > Email Settings. Then check the first box. Other members will not be able to e-mail you to the e-mail adress that you registered with.

I didn't get it because I have my e-mail address hidden, but I had this exact thing happen to me on one of my two RP boards. You can check to find out who all was sent the e-mail if the root admin goes to ACP -> Board Logs -> View Email Logs. I don't know if our scammers were the same, but I have his e-mail addresses stored on a ban list somewhere if you are really interested. :worried:

That &)^*&*(^ *cough* send it to almost 375 members here on RPG-D. I dunno but I'm going to look into reporting this to IF. This is spamming and against the rules *goes to IF website*.

that scam used to be all over the news I can't believe someone though another person would fall for it.

I didn't recieve it, but all the people saying it was a good laugh make me curious. What was it? I gather they were asking for money, but would anyone want to send me a copy of it via PM so I can laugh as well?

I wasn't sent the e-mail or PM or whatever, but I've noticed this happening on other Invisionfree forums and more... Like, spammers posting topics just like that e-mail all over the place. It's really annoying... I hope IF is really gonna do something about that, because I think it involves more than just one spammer.

Yeah, I got it too. I think it's kinda funny how Mr. John Michael came from West Africa. Because John Michael doesn't sound American/European in the least... ><
