Title: National Novel Writing Month
miss_c_bong - November 3, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
Has anyone heard of this, or joined this? A member at one of my sites brought this up this afternoon, and I have to admit to having never really heard about it. But, I checked it out, and I joined instantly. I don't think I can post a link here, but you can google it to see what it is. Basically, it's a writing challenge that takes places from the 1st to the 30th of November. You have to write 50,000 words for a novel. There are NO prizes, but the pride that comes along with finishing 50,000 words of a novel.
Anyways, I just joined it as misscbong, and would love to see anyone else's profiles if they joined it.

Yeah, I've signed up ^^ Pretty much by the same reasons as you
If you wanna check out my profile, the nickname's Elo..
I'm pretty proud of not having fallen under the minimum limit as of yet, but I'm starting to run out of plot... So I'm getting slightly worried... Mmhm.
miss_c_bong - November 3, 2006 04:45 PM (GMT)
Out of plot! Wow, how much have you written? My best advie would be to go back to the start and start adding more detail and secondary characters, Descriptions are always much loved!
I'll go check your stuff out!

I'm about to sit down and start writing as to catch up today, but I'm writing just your generic Fantasy junk. Plaidbutterfly, as usual ;)
Lieme - November 3, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
Haha! ^^ Well, the thing is I'm used to writing short stories. So I always keep descriptions and such to a minimum... Which isn't all that good when trying to write a 50 000 word novel. But I'm working on it! I'm ging to see it through! :s I hope...

Yeah, I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year. I only have 512 words so far, so I've got to work really hard this weekend. My username on the site is MythicalMuffin, if you're curious about my participation. Oh, and I've got an excerpt of what little I have so far up. ^_^

So, I have a question. How do you upload the entire book? Or, is it only the little blurby-bit that other people can read?
Kristal Nacht - November 4, 2006 05:46 AM (GMT)
I am very definately joining!
Though I doubt I'll be able to write an entire book, but I'll try!
Kiari - November 5, 2006 04:35 PM (GMT)
I'm writing for it!
My friend Megan showed me to it, and I was all "OMGYESSSSSSS!"
Speaking of which.... I should be off writing my book.... >>;

miss_c_bong - November 5, 2006 10:00 PM (GMT)
Lol, I too am very behind. But, if I don't make it, it's not as if the world will end. I just find that i have WAY too many plot ideas now buzzing through my mind!

So would anyone mind sharing a link to that site so everybody knows what it's about? Me for one hasn't heard about this before and I would like to know a bit more about it.
Edit: nevermind, I found it.
Kiari - November 5, 2006 11:29 PM (GMT)
That's still a good question, so in case anyone else was wondering, it's www.nanowrimo.org.

If only it wasn't in November. In past years, I've thought about doing it, but unfortunately never did. But now I truly have no time for it during what is perhaps my busiest month of the year. Which is a shame, because it would perhaps help me actually complete something. I've started countless stories, but never finished them. It's sad, really.
I like how the purpose of NaNo is to just finish something and not worry about the quality. I know I'm the kind of person that nitpicks over details and runs into debilitating roadblocks as a result. The end result may not be the best, but at least it is finished and I think that's a great first step for any new writer.
Best of luck to everyone participating this year!

I'm exactly the same... I love writing, but I always find flaws in my own stories, or I go into too much detail on the clothing and the geography and end up never focusing on the story itself. I don't think I'll ever finish anything! :sigh:
