Title: Piercings

ShinLi - October 22, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
Piercings are a generally accepted thing in our society. At least that is how I look upon it. Mostly this is the opinion of the younger generation.

But I'm just wondering what your thoughts about piercings are? Do you find them beautiful or despise them? Do you find it attractive if a boy or girl has a piercing, and what would you find unattractive?

And most important, do you have piercings yourself? How many and where? And if not, why don't you have piercings, would you like one or two, or why wouldn't you want one?

Guys with earrings are funny. I mean, one tiny stud in one ear is excusable, though definately open for some good-natured teasing. Giant hoops and stuff in both ears are just laughable (especially on my cousin...). Anyone (boy or girl) who pierces their cartilage is either silly or brave (it hurts!) so they escape joking.

In general, I dislike the look of facial piercings, especially tongue and lip piercings. How do you eat with them?! Eyebrow piercings seem like the person is trying too hard to stand out. Nose piercings. Just no. Odd, too, considering as a nerd, I hang out with a lot of the other misfit and outcast groups. I just never liked how they poke holes in their faces.

I suppose, though, in the end, I wouldn't really care if a guy had a few piercings if he was otherwise really cute. But if I can't see his face from all the metal, then of course it's not attractive!

I myself only have one hole in each ear. I would like to get second holes, but I always seem to forget when I'm at the mall.

I don't mind most peircings...people who literally coat themselves in them, though, are merely seeking attention, in my opinion.

There are also some peircings that I'd never go for - like the nape, tongue, or other, less...mentionable parts. o.O

As for peircings on myself...I'd never get one. I'm too wimpy. If I did, it'd be the simple & classic one - the ears.

Kotori - October 23, 2006 03:57 AM (GMT)
I don't like piercings, myself. I mean, I don't judge the people who have a ton of piercings in a negative way, it's just something I personally avoid. Actually, I don't even have my ears pierced. Never once had the desire to poke holes through my ears, and I sincerely doubt I'll ever develop a want to. Then again, I'm not one for jewelry at all, so maybe that's part of it. Heh, I'm the only girl I know who doesn't have their ears pierced.

But as a fashion statement, a way to express oneself, or for whatever other reason, I don't have anything against them. It's just not a cultural phenomenon I'm interested in.

I don't mind some piercings, while others I don't like any. I myself only have my ears pierced once, and I also have a belly button ring. I think that both of those are fine. My boyfriend has two small piercings in one of his ears, and I like those, they're not ridiculous or showy. I also don't mind a cartilage piercing here or there, though too many seems a little weird.

What I don't like is eyebrow / lip / tongue piercings. I feel like it is a mutilation of the face, or maybe some way of trying to seek attention. Not that I judge people with those piercings, but I find it really unattractive and can't quite figure out what makes them like it other than needing the attention. I don't like most nose piercings, but I think that sometimes a girl can look alright with a small one in the nose, as long as it isn't accompanied by other facial piercings.

Oh god, I absolutley love piercings! Of course, some look better on certain people than others, but if it looks good on you, then I am allll for it! I myself only have 2 in each ear lobe and my cartilage pierced on one ear, and for those of you who think it hurts, the only thing that scared me was being able to hear the cartilage pop! I really want a third hole in each lobe though, I keep forgetting each time we are near a place!

I think they are really nice accents to one's features. I know a couple of people with lip piercings [perty Shin-Li being one of them!] eyebrow, which can actually look really awesome on some people, a few with the tongue. The tongue is one that I would never get on myself, but if you want one, more power to you, I just dont think I would be able to do that! I actually like the way it looks, though I have yet to kiss someone with one, so that may change my opinion of them though! Lol. Some more unmentionable parts, ie nipples, I dont really think looks nice. I mean, it can, but it just doesnt appeal to me straight away. Belly button, yea, I dont really mind that, my mum cares though. For some reason I can pierce just about anywhere else, get a tattoo, but I cannot get my belly button pierced, ah well, tis the mind of a deranged woman.

I just think they look nice, and with certain ones, are really fun to play with when you are bored!

I think too many piercings is creepy, but I have to confess that I LOVE lip rings - especially snakebites (one on each side). Other piercings can look good on the right people, too. The only piercing I can't stand is through the bridge of the nose - ugh. I think that's disgusting.

Myself, I only have each ear pierced once, but I'm planning to get one ear double or triple pierced because I think it looks cool. Maybe my belly button I would consider, but others I don't think would look good on me.

SilentGhost - October 24, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Agh, piercings. I would never get one but I dont mind people with them. Its like why put stuff on that can seriously hurt you? I would never get one mainly because of the pain? I can stand punches but the whole needle in my ear thing just freaks me out.

Me, im more of the rings, wrist bands, and neckless kind of guy. Something I can easily remove and put on. Oh and tounge piercings like just scar eme away. Its like, how do you eat with those? You have to take it out, and make sure it doesnt hit those veins under your tounge. agh, im just scared of piercings on ME.

ShinLi - October 24, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
I like piercings. But as said above, I don't like too many piercings. Not a body plastered with piercings, that's just creepy XD.

I myself have both two piercings on each side in my ears, a nose piercing and recently I got a lip piercing, a labret one.

That is basically all I would get piercing wise. I might consider one or two more in my ears, but nothing else. I've been thinking about getting a lip piercing for quite some time, maybe two years? And finally I got the oppertunity to get one. On a friday afternoon I went into town with a few classmates, one a girl, and her bf we're planning to both get a lip piercing that day. Another classmate a guy, would go with them to to get a tongue and nipple piercing. And so this was my chance, so I went with them XD.

It barely hurt, the first day is a bit awkward, because it's quite long, so it's a bit weird when you eat. But you get acustomed to it quickly. Now I have a smaller one, and I don't have any trouble with it at all.

A piercing which I never wanted to have is a belly button one XD, I don't know why. I find it pretty on other girls, but also it adds somekind of image to such a girl in my opinion. But yeh...

So piercings = ok with me, as long as it's not to many. It should accent your body, not completly change it.

Cammi - October 25, 2006 11:37 AM (GMT)
I like piercings, though only the basic ones and not to many of them. I don't like huge ones that stand out. I myself have four piercings. Two on one ear in the lobe, two on the other ear in the same place and then one at the top of my right ear. Thats basically all I would do to my body in the way of Piercings.

My partner has one piercing in his ear, and it's just a very, very tiny stud. Thats about all I can stand on a guy. I don't judge anyone that does have alot of piercings its just my personal preference.

eXclude - October 26, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
I personally have the "Daimond Geezer" earring, or at least that's what we call it in england. It's a small daimond stud on one earlobe...they reckon that if you have it on the right ear it means you're gay, and if on the left, you're straight. Sadly I didn't have a third ear inbetween the two I do have...LMFAO...so I disregarded this potential "Urban Legend" and got the left one done due to personal choice alone.

Now I am certainly not a fan of people who have too many peircings, and I do believe that with peircings, less is more. The bottom line is, when you have any sort of relationship with someone ranging from passing them by in the street to marrying them and having their kids...you just don't want to have to deal with enough metal to remodel the body of a car.

Big-time peircing freaks don't offend me, and many of them I have found to be interesting, generally laid back people, and I wouldn't tell them what lifestyle they should lead. I would not condone such peircings on my own children though, I am open minded but I do not want a son or daughter that looks like they just lost a fight with a set of angry bed springs.

I think I have all the peircings I ever will. I considered getting an eyebrow one, but a celebrity I know had it done and now they have a permanent nerve dysfunction which causes one eye to open and close differently to the other. I'd get a lip one but I find them unhygienic.

That's all from me on this subject folks!

OH! Except...

There's this guy on The X Factor who keeps wearing pearl earrings, and even a pearl necklace. That's so wrong on so many levels.

Ashie - October 26, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
I absolutely *love* piercings when they suit the person. On some people they look absolutely amazing ... But on others, you just wanna yank them straight out with a pair of pliers. Haha...Or maybe that's just me. Not that I'm a violent person or anything. *Shifty eyes*
Anywho ... People who can't look after piercings shouldn't have them. It is an absolute turn-off when you meet someone and they have loads of pus and other gunk spewing from a piercing ... It's just. *Shudders* Ugh ... But I agree with those who say that piercings can accent a person's features if they're looked after properly.
I think that society's biased in a way ... How, when you get on a bus, the majority of the other people there will do everything they can to avoid sitting next to the teenager with more than just their ears pierced. It's as if they're automatically coming under the assumption that that particular person's going to rip their faces off or steal their bags the moment they get within vicinity ... It's just stupid in a way. Or maybe I'm biased- I'm in a band in real life and all five of us in the band [including me, who's the only girl] have at least three piercings excluding ears. No, not in exactly the same places- that would just be lame and unbelievably sad. But if there's one piercing I really can't stand looking at, it's the septum. I just think it's both hilarious and disgusting when guy or girl has a huge bullring inbetween their nose. So yeah. 'Nough said.

As for my piercings, I have snakebites currently in bar-bell form just below my lipline, my anti-eyebrow pierced- roughly located just below the eye and just before the cheekbone depending on how high // low your cheek bones actually are- ... A hole gauged through my right ear with a spike protruding from the hole ... And my latest piercing is seven small plain silver studs in a tight circle around my belly-button ... Which hurt like hell to get done. But yeah, I don't regret it at all. This may be irrelevant, but some people are like 'Ew! Surface piercings are disgusting!' ... But they're not- not to me, anyway- my boyfriend has plain studs which together give the outline of a star on his chest, and I absolutely love it. If I was a guy, I'd definitely consider getting something like that done, but I'm not. So I can't. :p

bunnysocks - October 26, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
I just have one on each ear, and that's all I want, but I think it really depends on the person. Some girls and some guys can pull multiple piercings off. Or in the guy's case, a piercing period. Not to say that guys can't pull off more than one though.

Ayla - October 26, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
I personally wouldn't go and get a peircing anywhere on my head except my ear (got that done already). I'm not very fond of pain, and I don't really care for the look of a nose, tongne, eyebrow, or belly button percing. I don't hold anything against people with them though. I have several friends with piercings.

xoxwhoaxox - October 27, 2006 02:55 AM (GMT)
I think ears are the only place for earrings. Because one, they don't look that bad if they get infected if they do if your nose/lip/whatever gets infected, and two, it looks irresponsible if you have a piercing anywhere else. What professional agency would want to hire someone who doesn't look professional?

GinGirl - October 27, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
Well, I pretty much hate piercings. I don't think it's pretty at all... I just can't find anything pretty with some metal thing on your body. I don't really like earrings either, but I don't think it look ugly - most of the time.
But I wouldn't like to get one atleast. XD

I don't really mind if other persons have piercings though. As I said, I don't think piercings look nice but on some people they can look ok atleast. But people with A LOT piercings isn't nice. I think one is enough. XP But that's just my opinion! ^^

Starlite - October 28, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
I find it interesting how piercings everywhere are accepted. Except for if you're looking for a nice job of course. A century ago it wouldn't have been. I'm not against it but I would not want to pierce myself anywhere. I guess ears are alright. That's piercing as well but it doesn't hurt as much.
