Short Info about the Board: Newport Beach, California. Home of the rich and the not so rich. Home of the drama filled angst ridden teenagers. Home of the beach and a clear blue ocean. And home of Newport Union High School.
Newport Union was founded in 1986 when a teacher at one of the many private schools in the area disagreed with the curriculum. She believed that the knowledge given should be more liberal. She believed evolution should be taught along with creationism. She believed that other views should be taught, not just the conservative mainstream view of Newport society.
Margaret Hatcher took part of her family's wealth and started a new private high school. She opened it up to the students in the numbered streets and even gave tuition breaks for those who couldn't afford it. She was considered one of the kindest, and most eccentric, people in Newport society. And people gave a year for the school to fail.
Twenty years later, the school is still going strong. Margaret is still the principal and the education is still just as liberal. The classes at Newport Union are more relaxed than the ones at other schools. And the dress code is practically non existant. Its not uncommon to see an English class sitting outside reading instead of studying in a classroom. Many classrooms have couches with tables, or large tables with chairs grouped around, instead of desks. And of course, the whole campus is wireless internet friendly.
The students at Newport Union are typical American students.
One day, a student, Jillian Tilly found a song called "Newport Living" by Cute is What We Aim For. She found that the song rang true to the school she went to and petitioned to make it the unofficial school song. It passed after she got several groups of people behind her.
The song even described several of the students at the school.

The one who flirts and does a little more."That was Laria Tomlinson. Laria had it all. She was the epitome of the Newport girl. She was rich, popular, and beautiful. But she had severe insecurities and covered them up by partying. At the parties, she hooked up with different guys, gaining her the reputation of the whore. Though everyone at school claims to like her, she has her doubts.

Caught up in her own hard liquor world."Over the summer, the appearance of the new girl, Farrah Monroe. At all the parties over the summer, she was the one getting drunk. No one knows her story. She's a mystery, one that everyone wants to explore.

She gets the skills from the pills."Finally there's Bevin Smith. She's one of the smartest girls in school. But what no one realizes is the pill addiction that has haunted the perfectionist for years. Very few know the girls drug addiction. She goes into other drugs too. As to why though, no one knows. People even doubt that Bevin knows.
As for the other students, they may not be defined in the lyrics but they exist. And there's always the young teachers, the ones all the students want to sleep with.
Newport Union, and Newport Beach, is filled with drama. So come in and be a part of it.
