Anthony had left Johanna behind in Sweeney Todd’s barber shop. Oddly enough, Mr. Todd had not been around when they got there. But he did promise that Anthony could bring Johanna there, and though Mr. Todd could be a bit strange at times, he had never betrayed Anthony’s trust before. So he assumed Johanna would be safe at the barber shop. He had gone out to find a carriage for them, even if he did not have a whole lot of money on him. And it did prove to be more or less impossible. At the same time, he had promised Johanna to be back soon, and so he was now on his way back to the barber shop, empty handed. He rounded a corner to come to Fleet Street, looked shortly at a church he passed, and then moved on.

As he came closer, he noticed how there were no guests at Mrs. Lovett’s Pies tonight. It was a bit strange, but then, he had seen stranger things than that. Perhaps they had earned such good money lately, that they could actually take a night off? Though he did still wonder where Mr. Todd had gone to, he had hoped the barber would be around to take care of Johanna so she would really be safe. Even closer yet, and he began to get a strange feeling. The lights were on inside the house, but there were no one there. And it seemed as if the smoke from the chimney was even darker than before. Oh well, maybe it was just odd feelings and nothing was wrong for real. He just hoped that Johanna’s nightmares would go away with time. Anthony would for sure try to replace them with dreams. With a small sigh, since he had not gotten a carriage, Anthony began walking up the stairs to the barber shop.
