Title: Let's Make It!

'Quel - August 29, 2006 07:40 PM (GMT)
Ok, in this tut, we're going to make this from this

Got it? Good.

First, make the picture smaller. Go to Image»Image Size.. and you'll see the dimensions of the picture are 595x397. Make it 300x200. You got that? Good. Next step.

As you may see in the icon, we'll have to flip the image over, horizontal. You do this in Image»Rotate Canvas and then press on the first button below the line. I'm sorry for not giving you a better description; my Photoshop is Dutch, bugger it, thanks to my father *rolls eyes*

When we're finished with that, we go and make us a new canvas, with the dimension 100x100, only natural for an icon, don't you think? Thought so. When we've done that, drag the picture into your empty canvas and place it where you like.

There you go. Pretty, ain't it? I bet. Let's get on with it. What we do know, is we duplicate the base twice and put both layers to SOFT LIGHT. You'll get something like this.

If you want it lighter, you can take away one of the layers, but I like it better like this. Now, as you can see, it's not even finished, ha, by far. What we do now is we make a new layer and we take a dark blue colour - #12274C - filling the empty layer with this colour and put it to LIGHTER.

We make a new layer and we take another dark blue colour - #101A2B. Floodfill the layer once more and put it to EXCLUSION, with an opacity of 40%.

We make yet another late, and floodfill it with a light blue colour - #CAEEFF. You put this layer to COLOR BURN.

The following is rather easy, so I bet you'll have no trouble following it. Take this template and put it into the icon's canvas. After you've done that, put it to SATURATION.

Duplicate it and change it to COLOR BURN with an opacity of 50%. If you want it to be more or less, it's entirely up to you, but I like 50% best.

Duplicate it again and now you change it to SOFT LIGHT. [Opacity 100%]

Now, you make two white vertical stripes next to the girl's head, the width doesn't matter, really. After that, go back to the layer below the first colour floodfill, the Lighter one. This is the tricky part.

Leave the icon alone for now. Go back to the original picture with the dimension of 300x200 and go to Image»Image Size.. and put the dimensions on 200x133. After you've done that, you drag the picture to the icon canvas and you cut it so that mainly her face is in between the two white vertical stripes. Like so.

After we've done that, you duplicate that layer twice and put both of those layers to SOFT LIGHT.

You then put a nice, white brush in it, cut the brush away from the vertical picture, put some nice word[s] in it in black and voila, there you are!

Please comment and remember that this is my first ever tutorial!

Its very well done, and helps with casual graphic designers like me on how to get some 'advanced' looking pictures in an easy manner. Thanks for the tut.
