I wonder what Reality RPGs are missing.
Insecurity and Angst? Check. Secrets? Check. Reality RPGs have a lot of settings, including hotels, mental asylums, towns, and cities. There's plenty of psychological drama in an RPG, and many situations a character can face. Plus, RPG often is about surviving and dealing with other people. But how can we improve Reality RPGs to make them the "perfect" RPG for a lot of people to go to? What plots do they need? What situations should these characters get into?
Ideas and suggestions are welcome here. Psychologists and patients in a psychology office would be cool too.
I think (personally) that what a lot of Reality RPs do wrong is to restrict themselves too much. Sure psychologists and patients might be interesting for a bit, but for me that would be too limiting. As are sites which bill themselves as "Slash only," "Het only," etc etc. Personally, I like a site that says "Here's where you are, anything goes, have a good time." That, I believe ensures that people can have whatever plot they want (even the ones which make others' eyes roll), and management doesn't spend all their time (and burn out) trying to keep everyone active and keep plots moving along. That bores me as an admin and as a player, I hate being told what to do. So, for me, what's missing in many is freedom to do as I will.
I think they're missing the fact that the majority of America (where most reality RPGs I've come across are based) is middle class... Characters rarely experience economic or financial difficulties, despite the fact that most seem to work trendy minimum wage jobs... or really well-paying jobs with no knowledge of that field. lol. I also think we need more people of color. The world is not white (but RPG-Land is apparently.)
I want to make an RP where characters are middle-class or lower-middle-class, living in the city, where every other canon is black, Hispanic, Asian, or some other minority.
