Title: Searching For...

other_echoes - September 6, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
My friend and I are looking to dip our RPing toes into something new. We’re not too picky over the details, but we do have some specifics. Any and all responses would be awesome.

Genre:
Yes: Post-apocalyptic; crime; sci-fi.
No: Mutants/superheroes; high school/college/university/real life in general; Harry Potter; fantasy; purely vampire-related boards.
We may consider boards with a mixture of vampire and werewolf/shapeshifters except those that are Twilight-themed.
Difficulty: No rigid word counts or novel-size expectations, please. We’d like to be able to write little when we feel like it, as well as larger posts when inspiration strikes.
Type(s) of Creature(s): See above; humans, or vampires/werewolves/shapeshifters where appropriate.
Preferred Rating: PG-13 and upward. R-rated material is fine.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: Not so important if the board isn’t bursting with hundreds of posts every day; we’re just looking for somewhere that isn’t likely to be going offline any time soon.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in: Flexible; modern day or near-future.

Other Notes: EDIT - We'd also like to specify that if a board has pre-made canons, they should not have predetermined playbys.

edit; I think you and your friend would like Angels, we're first and foremost about writing a story together---and an epic one at that, we have dark gritty elements, as well as a dash of the supernatural, and a really awesome crew. :3

Canon's without pb's, that's the second time I saw that request, and like the last one I saw I'll tell you the same thing. We have already faced canon's however it's merely a suggestion of who we think fits best for the role and no way set in stone... Okay its not exactly what I told the other but its the same point, you like the canon and not the face, run it by us, of course you can change it, we're not married to it.

There is a word count however its just to discourage one liners. Its not a set in stone rule that I'll be checking yo u every post to make sure you meet it, and I hope you won't be doing so as well. Its really only a problem if you're posting so short that others are finding it hard to rp with you. We value quality over quantity.

With all that being said I offer you Project: Salem;

Set in the near future, Project: Salem is a modern day witch hunt. Rated N.C. 17 for the big kids in us, I think this might be what you're looking for.

... Warning I'm about to post a long plot but personally I hate reading through these things to figure out what's going on so I'm also posting a synopsis. If you enjoy reading long plots then by all means skip the synopsis and read it. I think its quite good but I may be a little basis. And hey if you like the synopsis, read the plot anyway.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Spoiler Alert~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Synopsis: Salem is a secret military agency created to track down, capture witches. The main story revolves around a young witch capture by Salem and trained to hunt her own, the suicide of her former watcher, a Salem agent and national hero, a suicide letter telling all about the secret organization, and one miserable detective stuck between his job or revealing the truth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To whom it may concern,

However I'm not sure whom would be to concern with the ramblings of this old man any longer. But I still sit and write, I suppose we all want our story's told one way or another, for a man with no family I assume this type of letter is the obvious choice... Choices, the ones we have and the ones we do not, isn't that how these stories always being. For me, a man of my position, to speak of such explanations as the god or the devil is out of the question. However I have no choice for that is the only way I can even begin to phantom what I've witnessed during my time with Salem.

How that word brings back memories, ones not even this old corpse can forget. They told me I couldn't speak of it, S.a.l.e.m., the "Secret Association in League towards the Exploration of Magic." That was our official title but I'm no longer sure if I can believe even that anymore. Is what we were doing really exploration? The more I think about it the less I can accept it. No, I've always known somewhere, deep down, that wasn't exploration, it was extermination.

Oh god how many have I killed? How stained are these hands, that fumble to write these lines, in blood? It sickens me, just the thought of the pain I've caused, and the horror of her face keeps me from my sleep: hunting my nightmares. Its gotten so hard to even shut my eyes, that face, that face of an angle and a demon torturing me. Damned hand, stop your accursed shaking how many times will you force me to write this letter. Let me continue before I lose what little nerve I have left.

You may find this next part hard to believe, even after what I've witness I still have troubles believing. Enough with the run around, I've always been a direct man, that's how Ive lived my life, there's no reason to change now. Salem was created with the sole priority to hunt and capture witches. After they were caught they were taken back to our labs where they were probed, prodded, and experiment upon until ultimately there was nothing left to test: at which then they were disposed of permanently.

Then I believe what I was doing was protecting my country like any good soldier, and believe me I was damn good. You see I say was because; a good soldier never questions his superiors, he carries out his orders without hesitation and most importantly he keeps his country's secrets to himself: yes I was damn good once upon a time. But after what I've seen, at the end of my life I've begun to doubt what is most important. Is it being a good soldier, or a good human. I know I'm going to hell for the sins I've committed, there's no doubt about that, so this letter isn't the redemption of my soul but a plea for the rest of the ones I've destroyed.

I can't name them all, hell I can't even count them all, the live I've ended. But one, it stands out, I wish it didn't for it hunts me so, but it stands out. Her name I do know, Anisette Marie, I made sure they spelled it right on her tombstone. Beautiful girl with the saddest eyes I've ever seen. I suppose anyone's would be so sad witnessing there parents murdered before them. She was but a mere child and yet she still stood up to her parents' killers and in front of those monsters she summoned what little power she had to keep us away from their lifeless bodies.

I reacted like a soldier, like I was train to when facing a threat. No matter how big or small you crush it. I remember her name, I remember her face, I remember the weight of her lifeless body in my arms. She bleed the same blood, she cried the same tears, as did her parents. And from that day on I was no longer a good soldier. I questioned, I disobeyed, and now, on this tear stained pad I'm telling the secret: to whomever will listen. Here is my secret, here is my country's secret. I still felt heart beat...

I sincerely wish I hadn't,

Sergeant Major, James T. Fields

Imagine yourself a detective, you stumble upon a scene of an decorated officer in front of you, and a little over here and a some more over there on the wall. He no longer looks familiar but the name still rings clear, how couldn't it its been everywhere in the news. This years metal of honor recipient put a bullet threw his head a day after accepting the damned thing, how the news'll love to get a hold of this story. Sometimes they can just make you so sick you need a ci... right, right no smoking in the crime scene.

As you put that rectangular box of heaven back in you nameless officer one hands you the blood soaked letter in a plastic bag. Great your job just got tougher, "James T. Fields is a national hero... he will be missed dearly... the cause of death was accidental... a gun malfunction..." Gah who would believe that, a decorated soldier accidentally shoots himself in the face while cleaning his firearm. And this letter just put the final nail in the coffin, although you're sure that the higher up's will make this disappear too, they already have there story so why are you here. Well to keep up appearances no doubt. You have that promotion coming up and you'd hate to be passed by again, right?

So you do like a good little flunky should; you keep your mouth shut, when they call the press conference you stand there as the detective heading up the case, you give you sincerest condolences for the loss, and you rule the case as an accident and close it. That's what you'd do right? That's what Detective Avery Nickolas did, or was suppose to do. Stepping up to the podium he clear his trough repeating his sincerest condolences for the loss when his chief by his side nodding in agreement. Just the sight made Avery's stomach turn into knots so when it came time for the ruling he paused before delivering the phase that lunched a news frenzy.

"Ahem, James T. Fields was and is a national hero who's unexpected death affect the lives of many... he will be missed dearly. As of now the cause of death will be ruled as an accidental... gun malfunction.... However during the course of the investigating there was a discovery of possible evidence to a different crime. That is all the information we have until further investigation, any questions please addressed to the chief. Thank you."

Prologue: Peace at Last?

It has been over three hundred years since the events surrounding the Mandalorian Wars, and the Jedi Civil War. Then, more than ever, the Galaxy, and the Republic governing it, were secure, though frail. This is mostly due to the fact that the Republic had, by this point, managed to subdue the two greatest threats facing it.

3653.BBY
Fifty years prior to this date, the new leader of the Mandalorians launched one final assault on the Republic with the few clans he had gathered together. The attack was ill-planned, poorly executed, and was destined to fail. The inner-rim worlds chosen were easily defended and the Mandalorians expunged. To end the fighting once and for all, the Republic recognized the Mandalorian people as a nation, and wrote up a treaty, the Treaty of Mandoa. Which, in an act that would earn him the name "The Betrayer", Mandalore signed it. This treaty stated that no world could be controlled by the Mandalorians and that no Mandalorian clan could number over a hundred. Thus, the Mandalorians were scattered, forced to live as Republic citizens, and were no longer any kind of power.

Long ago, over a hundred years to be certain, though none knew for sure the exact date, the last practitioner of the Sith, the last Darth, died. This severely weakened the sith religion, as there was no leader. And, though the terror of the Sith Lords had long been forgotten, the word "Sith" has taken on a new meaning.

A new Sith Empire, consisting of worlds and companies controlled by self-proclaimed "Sith Arisocrats", have chosen to leave the Republic and create a new empire in the expansion region of the outer rim. Where they could make their own laws. The Republic allowed them to continue their bid for power as the Sith Aristocrats had such great financial and political power, that their elimination would harm the Republic more than it would help it. The Republic thus considered the Sith a necessary evil.

However, all that is necessary for antagonism to succeed is that protaganists do nothing…

Whispers of Rebellion amongst the Mandalorians grew to a cry for vengence, and the Sith have attempted to annex worlds from the Republic. Those they could not buy, were taken by force…

The Republic grew afraid that there was no way to avoid yet another war.

Ch.1: The hidden conflict…

3602.BBY
Fear strangles a galaxy as the politicians carefully orchestrated peace falls down around them...

The Mandalorians have taken two worlds from the weakening grip of the republic, and have begun to fortify their positions. Their eyes look toward new worlds un-conquered, and enemies un-defeated. Mandalore, the Home world of the Mandalorians, has been liberated by a new Mandalore. The one, rumor has it, who destroyed “The Betrayer”. Though his fate is uncertain, some believe he met his end on Concord dawn, his second planetary victory. Another Stands up to take his place.

The Sith Empire has annexed a great number of planets in the expansion region, from the republic. Most of them prior to their surveillance, by republic officials. Though money will sway many who are seduced by the power and comfort it brings. However, the Sith committed what some have called, an act of war. Though its official blame has been set upon the shoulders of the Jedi, the Sith have taken over the planet of Dantooine. As we speak they are strengthening their grip. Their eyes rest on their next objective. The Planet of Dac, the home world of the Mon Calimari, and the Quarren.

The Republic has fought valiantly against both opponents. Though when one is set upon by two dogs, they cannot face one, for fear of being attacked by the other. Their fronts are divided. They lack leadership, and funds. Their outlook is bleak.
Where though are the Jedi, the defenders of the republic? Some have been dispatched to many of the outlying worlds to attempt to bring peace. Whilst rumors persist of a darkness on Subterrel, hidden, and sealed away. The Grandmaster has passed into the force, and a new one is rising to take up the mantle.

Both sides of this hidden conflict have begun to fund piracy, in the hopes of weakening their enemies. Many mercenaries, cutthroats, assassins, and privateers, have begun to flock to the banners of both Sith and Republic. Their bellies grow fat, on the spoils of the inevitable conflict that is to come.

HTM is the supernatural genre, with an emphasis on lycanthropes/shapeshifters. We don't allow vampire characters right now for storyline purposes, but they should be available as PCs by the end of the month. We're inspired by the Anita Blake series of books in terms of world concept (so minus the canon and add some awesome instead :), we average out at around a R-rating and while we're active, we don't have a hojillion posts daily since most of us have lives outside of the RP. We've been running since January and are actually a reboot of a much, much older game, so we'll be around for quite a long time.

Description: It's 2008 and vampires and lycanthropes alike are legalized citizens of the United States, recognized as more than monsters and endowed with their own rights. But that doesn't mean everything is okay.

New Orleans is slowly but surely recovering from Hurricane Katrina. A city known for chaos, it is finally getting back on its feet thanks in part to its were community. But that isn't to say it's safe.

Hounding The Moon focuses on a city that's been controlled by shapeshifters for the better part of a century. Things change, though. Discrimination is never far, and with it the possibility of the day-to-day world coming down on you. The threat of a takeover looms on the horizon -- the vampires want their city back -- and out there in the swamps, someone is watching, and waiting.

Requirements: Hounding The Moon is an 18+ game which is focused predominantly between instant messaging (AIM) and message board role-play. The primary character influence in-game are currently lycanthropes (prone to change as the story progresses), but we are also looking for people to play the human variety as well: normal folks, animators, witches, psychics, RPIT officers, etc.

We are not currently accepting applications for vampires, but that will change once the game gets off its feet and the game-wide storyline progresses.

WELCOME TO DELIRAMENTI ASYLUM
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
    Despite being a hospital slash mental institute, the weight of death had never really dawned upon the staff of the Deliramenti Asylum until the passing of Dr. William Korsakov. Although the Seattle City Police Department had concluded his death as a tragic accident of natural causes (mainly old age), even the 'saner' staff of Deliramenti could not settle with such deductions. Because clearly, but Dr. Korsakov, like an old habit, was rather die hard. It was so strange and perhaps psychologically disturbing for the staff to have to accept that even men like him were simple human beings, like everybody else. His death had to be a suicide or a homicide. Either way, Korsakov could not have died like everybody else... Right? And so, the medical and psychological staff all pointed fingers at each other, blaming the other for the death of their employer. Friends stuck together, and if there ever were cliques within the Institute, then they had become more strongly defined in structure.

    Of course, the other perhaps more 'normal' rumor buzzing about the lounging areas over the steam of scalding hot, insipid coffee was the matter of who would be the next head of this Institute? Of course, James Breckenridge's name was the first name that everybody popped out. He had worked alongside Korsakov the longest, and had successfully worked his way up to the ranks of being the head of the Male Ward. Between himself and Julia Monroe, the head of the Female Ward, Breckenridge had the obvious advantage, given that he was more experienced, and well, although she was a successful and most definitely wanted psychologist, she had been a changed woman ever since the second asylum breakout, six months ago.

    Even someone as alone and quiet as Breckenridge obviously gets the rumors through the cracks of his office, and therefore he, too, had anticipated his promotion... Of course, that was only to have it shot down with the mysterious appearance of William Chambers. Coming from London, England, he stepped right into the shoes of Korsakov as if it were his birthright. Of course, people would have questioned this move, except for the fact that even the toughest of the staff were frightened by Chambers' intimidating nature (if they had thought that Korsakov was intimidating, they hadn't seen anything yet), and for the fact that their former employer had left Chambers to take care of business in his own will. The mystery that arises here was that nobody had ever heard of Chambers in their lives. Not even those whom Korsakov had kept dear. Not to mention that a certain James Breckenridge, with his chance of a promotion crushed, seemed oddly... Twisted. Changed, in a way. He wasn't the Doctor that everybody had known before since the appearance of Chambers.

    And that was when the first suspicions had started to arise.

    As mentioned before, the death of Korsakov was surrounded by mystery. Of course, with Breckenridge's shady behavior, especially with the sudden appearance of Chambers, people started to suspect that it was Breckenridge that had framed Korsakov's 'natural death'. He had the motive, and he had more than enough medical knowledge to, you know, poison him or something and still make his death seem accidental...

    The weight of having two major escapes (and no signs of recovery by the escapees who have been contributing to the once again increasing crime rate to the city of Seattle) seems to have harmed Deliramenti's reputation, which, of course, takes its toll on the (mostly) innocent staff of the Asylum. Whatever happened to its good old days of being the most recommended mental institute in the country? Was that not why some of the most talented medical and psychological staff worked here? And what compel them to stay? Reputation or not, there certainly still exists a charm to Deliramenti that keeps the employees getting out of bed every morning.

    With a new kind of tension arising within the asylum, not only between colleagues but amongst fellow inmates, and between doctors and their patients, and rumors of Korsakov's suspected 'homicide' spreading, the truth will slowly unwind.
