Title: It's Ensure, Damnit!
Description: the frequency of this mistake hurts me

Insure is what you do when you buy a new house. You insure it against - I don't know - acts of god? I don't have a new house. It's where the word insurance comes from.

Ensure is another word for make certain.

I've been seeing a lot of people insuring their plans are foolproof lately, and it didn't bother me much. Everyone makes mistakes. But it's really bad when a site representing not only an organisation, but an organisation supporting books can't spell properly.

XD

I understand ya. You'd think they'd have someone who understands homonyms (that's the word, no?) proofread, but I guess not.

Insure - to guarantee against loss or harm.

Ensure - to make sure or certain

Yep, totally different words. Dang homonyms. They always screw people up!

What you're saying though is kind of sad really. If they deal with books, you'd think they'd know the difference.

actually, that makes it funny.

Insuring your plans against loss or harm of foolproofness.

makes me giggle, but I'm sick so not exactly all there.

You made me choke on my drink. Haha. Honestly, that mistake is always great for a good laugh. I remember one where this girl wanted to insure that her boyfriend was not cheating on her.

Oh that's great XD

Annoying mixup to be sure, but it certainly can be entertaining to snicker at it :p

Snerk.

I am amused.

That is an annoying mistake, though. -wrinkles nose-

I actually mix those two up a lot...so to keep myself from looking stupid I tend to just avoid the word >.> There are plenty of other ways to describe how to make certain so it's never truly a problem for me.

It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt. *is referring to herself*

To be honest, I don't really notice it when I'm doing it, so either that means that I'm always mixing them up or I'm just that awesome that I get it right without thinking about it. ;)
