Title: Grrr People

LadyHellsing - September 3, 2008 06:28 PM (GMT)
So I recently started up a new RPG and while I didn't design the skin, I did configure most of the layout and found some really cut buttons I thought were apropriate for the game. Well I sat up my c-box and then some person, who was very cowardly and only logged in as guest, to the moment to tell me to change the skin, because it wasn't very pretty. It just made me so mad I could flip chickens. I mean what gave this person the right to say that? Obviously if I am going for a certain theme then I want a certain ambiance about the place. The worst part is that now I am insecure about the sight.*sighs* Some people shouldn't be allowed near computers...meh.

I am sorry that your experience with people has not been favourable but I do think you are being a tad sensitive about it. If they want to state that the colour scheme or skin is no pretty then that is not a personal slight on you, that is their opinion. Also, they logged in as a guest like you said, so what is the big deal? They obviously don't think enough of their opinion to be able to stand by it, so why let it affect you? Like you also said, you want to have a certain feel to the site, so it is your site go for it.

Don't let people get you down.

Ouch, that is uncalled for! However I do believe there is a thing called "Keep your opinions to yourself". >.> Your not asking if the skin looks great! Your asking for new members... And if the guest didn't like the skin, he/she didn't have to throw it out there either. I mean there is the door! Just leave and never visit it back XD !!

Really if I were you, I would just let it brush off and just focus on getting new members. People like them are just really immature XD !! and just only aiming to piss people off because they have nothing better to do with their life!

Psh, Kwentra. It's true that not being sensitive about it would help...but the guest is in the wrong here.

That person should not have commented at all. It's one thing to say 'I like what you're trying to do and if you'd like a change of skin (cos we all like change sometimes) here's one I think would be great' or giving some constructive criticism - but 'I don't like the skin change it' is rude.

Ignore them LadyHellsing!

Thank you all for your insight. I suspect that that part that honestly made me the maddest was they implied that people wouldn't be playing on the site simply because the background was "not the prettiest". I would be more understanding about the matter if anything was hard to read with the background, but as far as I see you can read things perfectly. Anyways, you are all right, I don't think I want to have someone on my sight who are simply there for skin colors.

Egads, it's the self-instated Internet Police!!! Run for your lives!

Randomness aside, the guest was stupid. I hate it when people dub themselves special enough that they can put other people down.

But take heart! These people are insecure and have nothing over you. I knew some people who would come back giggling about what youtube video they ripped apart or whatnot and because I knew them other than the comments they left, I also knew that they were incredibly insecure.

I don't blame you for getting paranoid that your skin is ugly. I think I may be twitching in my boots were I in your position. Is your skin ugly? I have no clue because I haven't looked at it. :p

LadyHellsing - September 4, 2008 07:54 AM (GMT)
*giggles* Ok that was amusing.

I don't really think so. I mean the skin is for my Set It Off rpg, so I kinda went with this whole fire and explosion theme, lots of blacks and reds. The buttons, I actually made my self and are phases of the moon, since the characters are werewolves. The c-box is done in yellows to compliment the flames of the explosion at the top of the board. So no I don't think it looks too bad, unlike my first home-made skin which I lovingly call, my "southern old lady hat" skin. This one actually matches.

I'm protective of my site so I know it feels horrible when people criticise, but not all RPGs are for everyone. If they criticise in a rude way, then just smile and say "thanks for your input.". I know that sounds wierd, but sometimes being uber polite actually makes the wierdos leave. They cant handle that you're not reacting to their words in the way they want you to. LOL

I had a guest who criticised the skins and informed us we would only get her as a member if we got a side bar. That left me speechless..not much does. Another option is just to ignore people who make random rude comments. Just a thought.....

to be honest, with all due respect, I log in as a guest sometimes to ask questions about sites. I don't really see that as a problem. But thats just me.

December, Esq - September 4, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't thank them for the input. I'd say something like this:

Guest: Your skin is ugly. Change it.
Me: Cool.

And then let it go. Thanking them sounds like you're actually considering what they're saying which makes them feel like they're actually doing something productive. It is still better than getting mad at them and flailing, of course.

I see your point December, Esq but I would still respond my own way. I guess our own reactions just show that we are individuals. What you said was a good way of dealing with it too.Though I must point out, that I said ignoring people was a good option too. *smiles*

December, Esq - September 4, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
Yes, ignoring it is also a good option. I missed that part of your post the first time I read it though, my apologies.
