Title: How Dare You Hurt My Friend!
Description: Site Ideas/Apps etc stolen!

candy - September 1, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Alright so my friend runs this magnificent site called Hallows && Horcruxes. It's been around since early 2007, and its a fantastic place with over 300 members. It's literally her baby.

Anyways, over the past year or so this one girl has been stealing from my friend's site, whether its ideas or applications she steals them. Yesterday, my friend pointed this out to me, and we noticed two applications on this site she had found were copied word for word from her site! This pissed me off greatly, since one application is owned by another friend who is going through a hard time.

I took the manner into my own hands since my friend wasn't feeling too well, and told the admin of that site what was going on. We had also noticed that, that site had taken ideas from my friend's site like seasons thread and the canon list. They of course claimed that all HP sites are going to have those similarities and we let that drop, but not the part about the applications.

I went to bed not long after that, and this morning my friend tells me that she found more than 7 or so sites with applications that the girl had stolen and claimed as her own, and was also stating that she hadn't stolen anything! We know she did, they're word for word!!!!

My friend has banned this girl from her site, but she's still upset about it, and I don't blame her. Why do people have to be so lazy?! GAHHHHH!!!

</end rant>

Satire.and.Ice - September 1, 2008 10:52 PM (GMT)
That's never happened to me, but I HATE HATE HATE it. If I want to copy a profile, I'll copy my own damn profile. That's laziness and meanness, and why would she lie if the evidence is sitting right there plain as a toddler in women's underwear?

Heh, weird metaphor....but still, that's ridiculous.

I feel your annoyance, candy, I'm going through something similar at the moment. It's sad that this is what it's coming too, creativity --- or the want to be creative and original --- seems to be dying among a large number of people. Maybe show the Admin of that site the evidence, maybe go to your host and report her thievery. She shouldn't get away with claiming it as her own. Good luck!

PS: Satire.and.Ice, that was a very creative metaphor :p

-sigh-

It really sucks that you're going through this. You, too, Twisted Serenity. I had some users rip some documentation from me a while back, stuff that took me forever to write...and they were really shocked that I was pissed off, even though there was no credit, no nothing.

Sadly, it seems like this is a trend lately. It's one of those trends that almost makes me want to rip all my original stuff down from the 'net.

*hugs to everyone*

Yeah, I can't understand why people would lower themselves to this, even to go as far as to rip an application that my friend made herself! Why steal from an admin?! Seriously?!

Wow

I actually find that funny coming from you

Really.

Now, I'm not trying to be rude, but sweetie, did you not open your 'disney' site after seeing mine and being upset because you couldn't play the beast or three main characters?

I mean.. Really. Your 'admin' signature is almost exactly the same as mine and my other admins.

Your Disney Canon list was in the EXACT same order...

I mean

Really....

Perhaps you shouldn't 'rant' about something when you are an offender yourself...

Can't you just leave me alone please?

Thank you

I'm allowed to rant over things that bother me okay, that's the point.

As far as the boards go, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

And I'm not sure what applications you're talking about. Character applications, or applications where you apply for things in-game? If it's the latter, what about asking her to put a copyright referencing your friend's site in the posts with the ripped applications?

If they are character applications, then it's the creator of the character's job to deal with it, hard times or not. If the hard times are that bad, then a ripped character application sheet ought to be the least of her worries.

You guys could always alert the proper forum-hosted authorities, but I don't know how all that works.

Hm, yes, you are.

Same as I'm allowed to post my opinion on your rant.

Urhg. Maturity.

...

Thats awful. I hate when bad things happen to my friends. Hopefully everything works out.

I will point out to everyone that if there is ripping, and you can prove it, then send the information to ShinLi and that site cannot advertise here.

I will also point out that it does say in the rant rules:
QUOTE
#  Do not flame other members or staff of RPG-D, including people not members of this board, a rant is different than a flame.
# Be considerate of each other! Yes, this is a rule, not following it will make us very unhappy.
# You may not provoke flame wars or any other forms of severe disagreements between members.

We're thinking about talking to the ProBoards staff, we're unsure of it though.

Why would you be unsure of it? If this person totally ripped these applications, I'd speak to someone in Pro Boards. There's no guarantee that they can stop it, but it's better than nothing.

Wow. Real mature. This is about application coping. Not similarities in your two sites. Thank you. Listen to Ros.

Anyway.

Sorry that someone is copying applications. I have a friend in which that happened to her. Sadly, the admin said that there was no rule against it and did nothing even as the girl copied everything off my friend. Yeah. Ticked off? A lot.

I'd say that being upset that somebody stole your work is a good complaint in a topic that's already ranting about it.

Aside from the general good message you were sending...

this made little sense xP I just felt the need to point this out.

So there's nothing against the Proboards TOS concerning copying that I see, but I know that other people have sent in a TOS violation form regarding the issue. I've also seen topics in the support boards about it as well.

I only said we're unsure, was because we haven't completely talked it over that's all.

Thanks for the info though ^_^
