Title: Hypocritical Admins!
Description: growl.

I bet you're all tired of me and my rants, right? Haha, I'll try to cut back. Opinionated person here.

I do wish admins would be less hypocritical. I see rules like, "Be literate or you will be warned," or "Spell check is your friend." Apparently not the admin's friend, because when you use the word CANON as describing the premade charries, PLEASE stop spelling it as CANNON. A cannon is something used in the war to shoot things and kill people.

And another thing. Farro is not spelled Farrow. Sorry, just a random thought that bugged me.

I've seen rules also that say you're not supposed to post anywhere else until your app has been accepted. Yet admins can get away with not posting an app at all, or posting half of one, just because they're admins.

Plus, while we only get face/canon reservations of...say, 3 days, admins get to reserve theirs forever and ever.

Sigh. Ok, that's my piece. Now what's your opinion?

SmathNa - September 1, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
I didn't know anyone outside of Italy called it farro! ... or do you mean something else? It's a kind of grain... *google dictionary* spelt in English, it appears.

*blinks*

Weird that that would come up in an RP. You probably mean someone's name in a fandom unfamiliar to me. Oh, well.

Tangent aside, I obviously agree. I think admin hypocrisy, while not inherently immoral (I mean, lighten up, it's just RP) is a really stupid thing to do, because it results in an unbalanced board. Players don't feel as comfortable, things aren't as 'open,' and it isn't conducive to the kind of friendly atmosphere you want in your RP, that 'we're all in this together' atmosphere.

Silly admins, why do you shoot yourselves in the feet?

I always post an application on my sites, and I'll have either staff or members [if I have no staff] to go over my application to make sure there's nothing wrong with it or whatever. And until that happens. I won't use the character. I don't like being hypocritical like that :-/

As for face claims, I usually don't use face claims because I find them pointless and irritating. :/

This one of the reasons why I left that site I was an admin on. One of many, but one none the less. It's not fair for an admin to correct someone's grammar and spelling when their own posts are heavily loaded with errors and their sentences make no sense. To the point where even site graphics have spelling and grammar errors.

That or their application for their character makes no sense in the fandom. If they don't know the specifics of that kind of creature why be it? Not only that, what makes you then better to say "Well your application does not make sense."

Yes as an admin with things like reserving face claims or CANON characters you think you can be lazy. Sometimes you can if it is a canon no one has shown interest in. I took a canon and followed all the rules including the one week trial period. I even asked that the staff talk in PMs when it came time to decide if I was playing the character true to form.

Admin means that you hold more power, but you aren't on a golden thrown looking down on all the peon members. As a member I know I hate it, as a member they should hate it, so why do they do it?

Akala - September 1, 2008 04:46 PM (GMT)
Well see, admins think they can get away with everything just because they're the admin of the site, regardless of level and other co-admins will back them up. Usually members don't argue with admins because they know they'll be banned if they do, so what's the point? THAT is why admins do what they very well please. That is why I like to keep two other admins beside myself because I like talking to the other admins and if two of us argue, there's ALWAYS a tie breaker; and three admins allows us all to keep each other in check.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

One of the things I really hate is admin neglecting the bio process. I don't mind self approving bios, if you don't have the staff, it can be necessary. Leaving out doing the history or sample post because you don't have to because you're admin is just kind of arsey. On top of which, if a board's just starting out and I have no RP to judge whether I like the look of the place, admin bios seem to be a reasonable place to get some measure of the quality of the RP.

I really really hate sites like that. I mean, when we admin sites, we do get first pick of the canons, usually, but that doesn't mean that we don't do some pretty hard work on our applications. My co-admin and I (I have the same co-admin for three sites) have made it a rule that we cannot approve our own apps, and they have to fall to the same standard as member applications. That means the word count has to be the same, the writing quality has to be the same, and we have to get the other person to approve it. No approving our own applications.

I was on the site that Sadie was an admin on, and there were some bad problems with that there. One problem I had in particular was that there was one administrator who barely made any sense at all. He never capitalized anything, everything was spelt incorrectly, and he didn't even try to sound professional in administrative PMs. I mean, whatever, it's your site, man...but at least capitalize and run spell checks before you send an administrative PM. Sadie was the only admin I respected there because she actually looked like she cared with her official board communications stuff.

Another thing that bothers me is admins who roleplay but never actually do admin work, and then the whole roleplay revolves around their characters. Ugh!

Bah, don't even get me started. x_x It seems that nowadays it's hard to find a roleplay where that isn't happening. It's getting so that I'm wondering if it's a TREND.

On my sites, we all sat down one night and finished our apps before we opened the site to new members. I actually never thought of letting the members or other staff review profiles, but that's a good idea, haha.

I too have had my share of misspellers. I know misspellers isn't a word but I think it should be. :p

Anyway, it is irritating that a potential newbie may submit an application and misspell words (or not use proper punctuation) to the point you want to pull your hair out. But with those type of individuals you have to be patient. Some do come around after being on my site but it takes time. I have a staff member that does misspell quite frequently but I believe this is due to typing too fast and not using a spell check.

Many believe Admins have total control over everything and can do what they want since they are the ones in charge of the board. I'm sorry but I don't believe that. Admins are suppose to set an example for the rest of the staff/members. They should be no different than regular members.
