Title: What Scares You?
Description: Panty-soiling terror!

Containedjoy - August 25, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
Alright, I just got finished watching 28 Days Later, and I have to say I forced myself to because Zombies are my greatest fear. Really. All my worst nightmares over the five years have been about zombies, and I used to have consistent nightmares about them nearly every night a few years back.
That's just my top. My fears include (but aren't limited to):

-Zombies
-Ventriloquist dummies
-Marionette puppets
-Spiders
-Jack Black (and no, this isn't a joke. The man scares me.)
-Big, open spaces
-The idea of infinity
-Becoming elderly
-Becoming fat (yes, I know this is a shallow fear, and I'm slightly ashamed)
-Drowning
-Choking

So, I want to know, what exactly scares you? I put some of the more common ones in the poll. I want to see what makes you all experience that horrible pant-soiling horror! ^^

----
Oh, yeah, and I made it so you can only pick three. Probably should have made it so you can select five or so. ^^;

Keeper of Secrets - August 25, 2008 05:58 AM (GMT)
I have a rather odd fear of knives. You know the really sharp ones that you see murderers/psycho killers in horror movies use? Yeah. I'm scared of those.

When I empty the dish washer and put those away, I get really nervous that I'm going to accidentally cut myself or chop something off. Or drop the the blade into my foot.

I have seen one too many horror movies, I think. But I think part of it is that I either really remember or am just imagining that my sister used to take those kind of knives and kind of tease me with them, but not actually do anything. >.> I think that's what my fear comes from.

I voted that I was afraid of heights, but it really depends. Roller coasters and going up big hills on them does not scare me. The Superman ride at my Six Flags is right by the lake, and that does not really scare me unless I'm sitting on the lake's side, but even then I'm not usually scared. There's a huge Ferris wheel there that does scare me. About a month or two ago, my sister and her friends came down from MA and went to this outdoor park that used to be a quarry, and you can jump from a 15 or like...25 or even higher foot cliff. I was scared just to jump into the water from 15 feet, though I did it. I think I was mostly scared because I'm not a great swimmer, and also because I never learned to really breathe under water without holding my nose, so that might be part of it.

And spiders. x.x The movie Arachnophobia does not help with this. On top of that, I remember having a nightmare where, in the dream, I woke up and looked down on my floor...and there was a huuuuge tarantula-like spider with these big fangs that had drool falling from them and its mouth on the floor. I remember starting to back up towards the wall (my bed was by it) as it crawled toward the bed and started to climb up the side of my bed.

And then I bumped into the wall in the dream and I really woke up. XD

So yeah, those are my main fears. Although I'm really not too fond of snakes, either. Like, at all. Anaconda did not help with this either.

Again, too many horror/scary movies.

I shall never tell you my secret fears! :rawr:

Heights, small spaces and "other." :green:

Containedjoy - August 25, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I probably should not have put 'zombies' in the poll, since I seem to be the only person on the planet who is deathly afraid of them.

I love those knives, personally, but I can really see how that would freak you out.

Oh, how this taunts me! You've aroused my interest, with your secrets! x)

Lady Hikari - August 25, 2008 06:08 AM (GMT)
D: I couldn't do em all, but I am afraid of...

1) SPIDERS
2) Heights
3) Small spaces
4) The Dark.

Yes. I'm terrified of the dark. Lame? Yes. Do I see crap and go into panic attacks? Hell yeah.

You're not the only one. I only recently stopped sleeping with a night light, and I only stopped because my iHome provides enough light for me to see. I see things in the dark that aren't there, and I get freaked out. xD I think it's actually a pretty common fear that a lot of people just won't admit to.

Angelfromhell14 - August 25, 2008 06:18 AM (GMT)
The top eight fears I have:

1: Clowns
Why? THEY ARE FREAKING SCARY! They have to much make-up and their laughs scare me! Plus, they are always evil in the movies :o

2: Heights
Seriously, this is at a tie with clowns. I was at the top of some stairs of a line at a roller coaster and I freaked out! Seriously, heights are the worst!

3: Death/Becoming older
It scares me on how I might die...and me becoming old is something HARD for me to imgaine!

4: Centipedes
OH...MY...GOD! THEY HAVE TO MANY LEGS FOR MY LIKING!*shivers* I'm freaking out thinking about them!

5: Dolls, puppets, and ventriloquist dummies
I'm sorry, but lifeless things that don't move and just stare at you..all...day...is just to freaky! I shove any doll I get under the bed!>_<

6: Not finding love
I know, so damn stupid, but I fear due to our mostly shallow world, someone will not find me attractive...and Ill die alone...*Shivers*

7: Blood
Odd because I HEART gory, brutal movies, but if somone starts talking about it, I freak out! Ugh...

8: Burning myself
Which is REALLY odd, because I consider myself a pyro>_> but, i hate going near fire and putting things in an oven>_<

Well, theres my top eight things that scare the crap out of me! >_<

You're a pyro that's afraid of being near fire? That must be rather difficult. I take it you're the type that enjoys watching things burn, but doesn't often do the actual burning?

Nah, it's nothing cool. It's lame, actually, but whatever.

:( Anyone who chooses anyone else just because of their appearance is stupid and doesn't deserve you.

QUOTE
7: Blood
Odd because I HEART gory, brutal movies, but if somone starts talking about it, I freak out! Ugh...

Totally the other way around for me. I can deal with real blood, but I can't do the whole fake blood thing. :yellow:

Aw, thanks! I agree, I mean, shallow people are just stupid>_<

And I have friends who are the same...im just used to fake blood and stuff because my brother used to force me to watch it when I was a kid>.<

And yeah, i do enjoy watching things burn...not really a pyro...im just used to people calling me one for liking things burn

Madame Everard - August 25, 2008 07:00 AM (GMT)
Spiders are my biggest fear. I can handle small ones, because I'm not afraid to kill them, but if the leg span is any more than half an inch I become inconsolably terrified and will not calm down until I can be satisfied that it is dead. Even talking about spiders freaks me out.

I'm also mildly claustrophobic, but that's mostly in situations where I'm crammed into a small space with a ton of people. If I'm by myself in a small place and I have enough room to stretch out my arms I'm generally okay.

Ah, I understand. I used to be really entranced by fire, myself. Burned things all the time in the kitchen sink and on the back patio. Eventually my parents hid all the matches and lighters from me.

I used to be like that, too. I feel your pain.

Ryl - August 25, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Heights. Oh god I cannot stand high places. I'm also terrified of falling. My fear of heights is so bad that I cannot even stand on a chair without getting frightened.

I am extremely claustrophobic. I cannot handle being in small spaces, I cannot handle being surrounded by people, it's even so bad that if there's anything keeping me from being able to move (I can't deal with being restrained), I panic. I nearly passed out once when in London and on the tube because it was so crowded, I couldn't move and had a hard time breathing. I was in a car accident, injured my back, and had to wear a neck brace and be strapped to a backboard while in the ambulance and in the ER before they could get me in for x-rays. It was three days before I stopped shaking.

Spiders. Ugh, SPIDERS. If I see one, I'll freeze. And scream. Bleh. I cannot stand them.

CENTIPEDES. I'm more scared of them than spiders. Seeing one crawl across the wall is a good way to get me to run away crying.

The dark. Or rather, I'm scared of being outside in the dark. I don't know why. But it freaks me out.

Lightning. I'm okay with it inside (mostly, I have a tendency to just stop and stare), but if I'm outside and I catch sight of some, I completely freeze up.

Geh >.<

AshBeanNun - August 25, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
Spiders, heights, small spaces...most of the normal fears I don't have a big problem with. They make me a bit nervous but it's totally manageable. What I'm really terrified of is needles. *shudders* Ugh! I can't stand them! I start crying if people talk about the bloody things. Apparently my mom is really afraid of needles too, so I think I inherited the fear from her. There was also this time when I was about ten, eleven years old and my little brother was still an infant. I had to hold him down, kicking and wailing, while the idiotic nurse tried to find his vein.

Bleck. Every trip to the doctors is a major ordeal. And hospitals...haha. Yeah right. They're like the gateway to hell.

I don't think I knew that. o.O

Now I can totally get you back for mocking my needle fear so frequently! Muahahahaha!

That's not an unusual fear. I know a lot of people who are terrified of needles. Probably should have put that up in the poll instead of the zombies. For some reason, though, I adore needles. Last time I went to get my shots I kept giggling. Got some weird looks from my doctor. Oh, and god how I love getting blood drawn!

Containedjoy - August 25, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
Well, Secret, that sounds like a pretty rational fear. I've hurt myself on knives more than once, and my father's been to the hospital for accidently hurting himself with a huge knife. Had to throw away his old mattress because he ignored it for a while before he went to the hospital, and there was a huge bloodstain on it.

Hmmm, I've discovered that about 50% of women are afraid of spiders, and 10% of men are.

Azubah - August 25, 2008 06:45 PM (GMT)
I have always hated zombies but when I saw them with the actual extreme graphics where they didn't even look fake I believe it was Resident evil...yeah I was scared shitless...

Ryl - August 25, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
I completely forgot about needles. I broke my finger badly a couple years ago, and they had to give me two injections of anesthetic at the base of my finger. It felt like they were stabbed the needle straight through my hand, there were two marks from it for months, and on top of that, it didn't even work!

Yeah, I hated that, and needles scare me a lot.

failia - August 25, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
I'm afraid of:

- spiders
- heights
- small spaces
- deep water
- puking
- death/dying

Uhhhh there's more but I forget ;___;

Mac-a-roni - August 27, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
Seagulls scare the crap out of me - I had a bad experience with a whole freakin' flock of them when I was seven.

Ghost-ly things scare me as well. ^^

Heights make my heart beat faster, though. And gross looking bugs make me scream and run.

Sophles - August 27, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
Zombies. I have nightmares about them actually xD Ugh, I hate zombies!

Becoming old. Oh nooooes, my skin getting all wrinkly, my bones aching, not being able to walk long distances, grey hair. .__. The thought scares me.

Ghosts. Centipedes.

sayf udeen - August 27, 2008 09:31 AM (GMT)
Snakes it about it.

Kwentra - August 27, 2008 09:42 AM (GMT)
I have a fear of spiders, which is really stupid since I live in the UK and none of them over here are actually deady, but I woke up one morning with my head next to my wall and the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a big house spider, about an inch from my face. I have never moved so quickly!

My other fear is really irrational and really stupid and I don't even know why. I am scared of girls with really short hair, like shaved heads and typically boys haircuts. Natalie Portman is the stuff of nightmares for me. I was driving down the road last month and I saw a lady come out of the post office with a shaved head, i swerved my car and nearly crashed. It is silly.

Weezze - August 27, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
I'm scared of people. Well not quiet. I get scared of talking to someone or at times being near people. Bit of a problem. Anything else that scares me like going on a rolacosta I will face the fear but the people problem... What is great is that people can't tell when I am scared. I was once in a problem situation and the other people were loosing it. Later they mentioned the fact that I wasn't scared but I had been.

Korra - August 31, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)

I'm terrified of thousand-leggers >__< No bugs really bother me, even spiders, but thousand leggers (actually called House Centipedes I think). Eck. I can't stand them, I usually run when I see one and call for my dad to squish it. The fact that they have so many legs (probably not one thousand, or even a hundred, but still ;3), run so fast, and their bite hurts is a bit terrifying to me x3.

My Mom made me squish one once, and it took a few hits before it was dead, and even then it's legs were still twitching, and I got a few of the twitching legs on my hand >__< And thinking about it, I'm itchy now x3.

Oh, and I'm also afraid of heights as well, to a point. As long as the place has a fence at least as high as my chest, I'm fine, but any lower, and I can't stand it. I went to the top of one lighthouse, and the fence was only up to my waist, so I spent the whole time with my Dad (who is also terrified of heights) watching my brother and friend joking around, and lightly shoving eachother >__<.

Nda - August 31, 2008 11:36 PM (GMT)
Oh dear... ><

I'm a bit afraid of spiders. I can handle house spiders, but I hate grass spiders and barn spiders. >< Disgusting.

Also, I hate grates. Has anybody seen 1408? There was a scene where the main character was looking into a grate, and I couldn't stand being in the room to finish watching that scene. Maybe it's the suspense that somebody (or something... D:) could be staring back at me. This also relates to how I dislike using eye holes in hotel rooms and whatnot. I'd be too afraid something horrible would be outside waiting for me. ><

And I'm not really afraid of height, but more or less falling from them without being strapped into something. I love rollercoasters, but I don't like standing on a rooftop because there's nothing keeping me there. And I hate those stairs with the holes in them. >< I always feel like I'm going to fall down the stairs.

I pretty much said spiders, heights and other.

rosalieart - August 31, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
i be claustrophobic. big time. if im in a crowd i get like this pressure of panic building up and more than once i freaked out in new york and had to shut my eyes and clamp my mouth shut to keep from screaming. people seem to think it's funny. if i'm somewhere i know i can get out of it isn't so bad, though. especially if its somewhere i know, like in my house or something.

and i have a moderate fear of heights and rollercoasters.
and bees. scared to death of bees.

SmathNa - September 1, 2008 12:00 AM (GMT)
28 Days Later cured me of my zombie fear, actually. The way the zombies move is so... sort of humorous... that I...

Well, spent most of the movie just watching Cillian Murphy. As usual.

Anyway, fangirlishness aside--

The only thing that really frightens me: doctor/hospital things.

Terrified of being one of those people who, under anaesthesia, can feel all the pain of surgery, but can't respond, move, etc. It's a real phenomenon. Well, **** THAT.

I'm also afraid of needles. I don't like things sucking out my blood, thanks.

Vampires are OK. I suppose I don't watch enough movies about them to be really frightened. That, or 'Buffy' desensitized me.
