Title: Would You Be Interested In An All-species Rpg?
Description: 'You think of it, you roleplay it'

I have come to the conclusion that I really dislike restrictions. And thus, I thought it would be kind of neat if there were some sort of rpg where... there aren't many. Everything you do... you do because you want to, sort of. Not chaos but, more freedom!

It would be a fantasy rpg. Any specie, be it a werewolf, elf, dark elf, high elf, goblin, loch ness monster, giant squid shapeshifter, whatever-- you can roleplay it.

Additionally, the entire forum would be based around the concept of 'you think of it, you do it.' If you want to create a new setting to roleplay in, PM an Admin and write up a description. If the Admin thinks it'll work, it's added.

When you join, YOU choose how to join.

You can write a long application, a short application, or just show me three sample posts. Anything works-- YOU decide how much you want to write before joining.

For plots, I think the Admins, leaders and mods could create plots and stuff for boardwide plots, as well as specific plots, but it will also be open for member-created plots. You have an idea? Go for it. It's all yours.

I do realize that sometimes members have absolutely NO ideas. Seriously, whenever we have polls, there might be a few suggestions for skins, but most people say 'yay it looks nice' and whatnot. But when it comes to discussions to discuss a new idea, people have tons of ideas.

The site would be structured similar to that. Someone proposes an idea, and if the members like it, it goes through.

But here's the question: would you join? Does this interest you?

At the moment, I'm thinking of setting the rpg a few years in the future, somewhere in Canada. I'm thinking Montréal, since it's nuts. The plot would be simple and straightforward, but will be run with boardwide plots for interest. Since it's so... 'free' I guess, there'll be a lot of structure to balance this. Organization! Hoowah!

But... what do you think? Would you join?

And... although I've heard people say that things can get confusing when people create their own powers/ species/ etc, I think it'd make it dynamic and pretty fun. Who knows what you'll run into?

But seriously, these are all just ideas. Would you even join something like this? Any suggestions?

Good idea, bad idea? OPINIONS, please ladies and gentlemen 8D

Hahaha, I'd join...

Because that's exactly how both of my games are. xDD Especially SotE.

A great majority of the areas in the game were member-suggested, we allow all species, even completely made up ones, we allow all powers, there is really no overarching plot at all...all there is is the setting and the lore (all of which is added to and built upon through play), but the members do some amazing things with the setting and the lore which often results in larger, overarching plots.

If someone has an idea for an area, I'll talk it over with my admins/mods and we'll decide whether or not to make a board for it. If we don't think it'd warrant whole separate board, we won't make the board--but the players are still perfectly free to play it in one of the more generic, non-specific areas of the game.

We've always had the, "You think it? You do it," outlook, and it's worked for us for almost 8 years. ^_^ Because I, personally, have never been a fan of restrictions, which is one of the things that prompted me to make it.

So in a nutshell? From my own personal experience running two games like this for going on 8 years--it works. xD

I had actually once made a roleplay kind of like this (never got off the ground, but I still like the idea). Only it wasn't limited to already-established races. Basically, the rules were: You make it, you play it. You invent your own creature, without making it ultra-uber, and you roleplay as it.
I made a black panther thing with poisonous quills on it's neck/upper back that it would shake to release a noxoius gas, and a scorpian tail.

But I digress.

Yes, it's a grand idea! Go for it!

If done right, it could potentially work. I probably wouldn't join because I would be concerned about really ridiculous characters that would cause problems (crazy dragon shape-shifting Mary Sues with tons of skills and immortality. . . oi). I need a little more structure than that, I think. It's a personal preference though. I'd really have to see it to determine whether or not I'd think it would work out well. It probably depends mostly on the approval process and the guidelines for creating new races and such. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable starting a game like that though. XD

Thanks for the replies, everyone! (:

Yeah, one of the things I was thinking about was... if a rpg is so free-flowing, there would obviously have to be a really good system in place to keep it running smoothly. Flexible guidelines and rules, but a good set of information on HOW to do things and how to get new species and ideas added to the game, I guess.

Since every specie/ idea/ power/ etc has to be approved, it'd have to go through a design team or thought team that makes sure it's not too powerful or 'mary sue-ish' -- I suppose more powerful powers and species would have to be restricted, and you'd need an Admin's approval to play/ use?

Something like that! :3

Yeah, even for areas, that's a good one. :3 If it were set in a city, I'd link to the wiki article for it, for example, and have a note saying something like 'not enough areas to play? Find your own!' -- just require them to say where it is and link to a desc. if possible sorta thing? :3

But it's good to hear that a board like this can achieve some success! :]
