Title: Looking For An Rp!
Description: very picky!

incroyable - August 23, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
Genre: Historical, some fantasy, read below!
Difficulty: Intermediate to advance. I'll end up writing from 3 paragraphs to a novelette depending on my mood.
Type(s) of Creature(s): Humans only.
Preferred Rating: I don't mind anything graphic, just please no sex-fests.
Preferred Number of Members/Activity: Just starting out is best, I hate jumping in with too many people to get to know, which I always end up doing and it takes up time to role play.
Preferred Time where RPG is set in:
Okay, so I said I was picky and here it is. I've been dying for a good historical rp, preferably in the 1920s right before the crash of the stock market in America. I also love love love the Victorian era (a boarding school then would be fabulous), the time of the Salem witch trials, and just a bunch of other things. If you have an active histoical rp, please post! Everywhen from Ancient Greece and Egypt to post-apocalptic. Please no modern, fandoms, etc.
Other Notes:
I've been looking for a twisted fairy tale plot for forever, or something twisted, not necessarily dark, but something with an amazing plot that has that feel to it. If anyone wants to make a board like that (kind of like my sig? and then I found this German gallery with a ton of pictures that remind me of exactly what I'm looking for) please please let me know.
In addition, I love steampunk and cyberpunk so anything with those would be great too! Post away! I'm open to a lot.

Hi there! Perhaps one of my boards might interest you? I have one in Victorian France (Obscurité Musicale), and a twisted/quirky fairy tale (Out of the Woods). Both have been out for a few months, but neither has had much of a chance to really get on their feet yet. I generally let the players choose their own paths and stories for their characters, so we don't have a linear plot, so to speak. But we're working on some board-wide plots, especially for Out of the Woods.

Both are pretty small so far too. I prefer quality over quantity, so we don't have a lot of word minimums. However, so far, and this is my personal policy when it comes to it, if you start out with a well written and lengthy post, you'll get pretty much the same in return.

Edit: The link isn't working for me, unfortunately...?

These are not children’s stories…They are our stories.

Be mindful of who –or what– you tamper with in there, my sweet. Oh, and the apples? I wouldn’t touch them.

“Since when are you so squeamish? How many wolves have you carved up?”

“A wolf’s not the same.”

“Ask a wolf’s mother.”

These are the stories you probably heard time and time again as a child. Snow White, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk; these people, these titles, these scenarios, are all universal, even if they carry different names or the endings are altered to hold more relevance in each culture. Whether they are told in different tongues, or updated to suit the times; fairy tales make up the backbone that holds stories together, everywhere.

Perhaps you’d enjoy slipping into the woods with us?

This is a Fairy Tale RPG, focusing on the darker, quirkier, and grittier sides of the stories we all grew up with. We're also based on the musical 'Into the Woods' by Stephen Sondheim, but knowledge or interest in the show is not mandatory. The plot does not center around the canon characters. You may decide to play another existing character from a fairy tale not already included in 'Into the Woods'. Or, you may wish to create an original character all your own. It's up to you!

Obscurité Musicale

Venture into a world of musical obscurity...

...shadows decorate every corner, and line the faces of passer-bys. There have recently been a large handful of missing persons reports, leading the authorities to be especially watchful of criminal activity. The citizens of Paris brush this matter under their hats however. There are far more important things to think about. Such as the upcoming Masquerade ball at the Opéra Garnier...

Who will you be? The timid chorus girl, who enjoys tea and cakes on Sundays...The gloomy politician, who watches Paris go by from his penthouse window...The pragmatic barkeep who sees his patrons drink their cares away through hazy green bottles...Or another mysterious face who appears in the crowd among hundreds, with secret desires and talents yet to be extricated?

Obscurité Musicale

This is a dark Victorian RPG, with canons from three musicals (Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, and Les Misérables) Knowledge or interest in the canons is not mandatory.

The link should work now!
It really is a great site, just to look at. Some of them really freaked me out, how much they twist reality. And just in case you (or anyone else interested) is offended by naked women, don't look!

Both of your sites are great and exactly what I've been looking for! I'm definitely be checking them out tomorrow and will stop by in your cboxes, just right now it's bedtime!

Honestly, I am in love love love with Sweeney Todd (turned French, non?), Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miz. It's so amazing you put them altogether, in Victorian Paris!

Alandree - August 24, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
I will definitely check them out now, then!

I'm so glad! I look forward to seeing ya there! :D

Edit: Wow they really are freaky! In a good way though. I love the colours and textures on them all. Very nice conceptually, and a bit inspiring too!

The year is 2118. It is four years after the Great World War.

The Earth has come under the rule of the self-proclaimed Emperor, Emmanuel Roth. In his plot to rebuild the Earth from the ruins, he has colonised the planet and runs the world from his base in the Aerium, Brandenburg, Germany.

Roth’s theory is that the foundations of a strong society in the future come from the past. It is for this reason that Roth has returned the world to the years of the Victorians; his native Britain’s glory days. But with the good – technology, employment, architecture – comes the bad – murder, poverty, illness and death.

Life and death can be a snap decision, like the flip of a coin. Will you survive to see the Earth restored to its former glory?

IN A TURNSTILE, BACKWARDS WE FLY, LITTLE ONE, JUST A LITTLE WAY

You thought your life was boring. Dull. Normal. You live in Washington DC and you thought you're life was just a conglomeration of politics, bills, and gas prices. You thought that nothing extraordinary ever happened, that magic was dead, and that fantasy was something found in comic books and role playing games.

Well, you'd be wrong.

Welcome to the Harbor, a portal to another world. Another world, where magic reigns, where magical creatures roam free, and where a dark force is currently ruling. Euphrania, once ruled by two benevolent brothers, is now in ruins, a disagreement between the two sending their world into perpetual darkness. A man of non-royal blood now rules, creating dissent in the people and the very nature of Euphrania. His evil magic is too great to be reckoned with. The only hope for the people of Euphrania is to see a human of true royal blood on the throne once more, but where have they all gone? They've been scattered across Euphrania and the United States. These men and women of royal Euphranian blood are just like you and me, and most will live their life without ever knowing their true place. However, if found by the evil forces of Euphrania, these men and women will no doubt be disposed of... their only hope is to be found first by the good-natured people of Euphrania.

Of course, though, this is not even the beginning. This is the United States, so of course the government has to be involved.

The President has always known of Euphrania, and, since the creation of democracy within the Americas, each president has decided to keep the existence of the other world a secret. But these are different times. These are times of terrorists and murderers and thievery and rape. The current president has decided to create a faction, housed within the CIA, known as the Agency for the Betterment of US / Euphrania Relations, also called-- in a move of foreshadowing, perhaps?-- ABUSER. ABUSER is separated into several divisions, specializing in both research and reconnaissance. ABUSER's agents travel regularly to Euphrania.

But ABUSER is not, as its namesake would suggest, good.

The current President does not like Euphrania. Its existence threatens the very sanity of the world. And so, he has charged ABUSER with luring the people of Euphrania into a false relationship based on camaraderie and trade. When this is achieved, ABUSER will annihilate all of Euphrania, leaving nothing. No traces of the people, places, and magic that once existed. The good people of Euphrania already dislike these newcomers, considering ABUSER has decided to side with the Dark Lord in power for the time being. The Dark Lord has charged ABUSER with several jobs.

One: Destroy all who threaten his will.

Two: Destroy all of supposed royal blood.

Three: Using their technology, attempt to create a replica of a royal human in order to fully capture the throne or Euphrania.

ABUSER is, at the time, fully complying.

Where do you stand? Who are you? 'Cause, man, is this fantasy shit as real as ever, You better pick a side, before a side picks you.

We are RIGHT UP YOUR ALLEY!

Set in 1904, Graciously Yours is an Edwardian Era Boarding School RP. It's starting to get a few more members, too!

QUOTE
-My Dearest Friend -
I hope the weather finds you well, and that your spirits are just as well. I know that this letter is quite overdue, as you have implored me many times that I write to you. My status here is well, and it would be a honor to have you here too.

The year is 1904 - and our dear, dear Queen Victoria, she's been dead for 3 years now. While parts of the world seem to be rife with unrest, our little area of England seems to be doing fine.

Our school has changed hands, and we're positive that you'll love it here. Our owners mysteriously disappeared in 1901 - around the time of the death of our beloved Queen. Still, we continue to work, and the chatter amongst girls of our station still continues on. The biggest chatter is the mystery of what happened to Mr. and Missus Pennington - and why is it that they have disappeared so suddenly. Their whereabouts are a mystery to all of England - though it truly is fun to talk about them and devise rumors. We have gotten a new headmistress, and she's such a sweet woman. We adore her so very much.

The word here is that a building near us is being renovated into a school for gentlemen. Our matron is unnerved by this concept, and has given us a long lecture regarding how we should behave as the fairer sex, but for the life of me, it truly is difficult. It is hard to not hear about the times that the young menfolk come in and tour the school. Sometimes, we'll take secret excursions to the other campus, as it isn't very far from here - it is only within walking distance.

Our classes are difficult, and we are expected to do our best on everything. We are expected to excel in our studies, and become decent housewives and mothers. We learn about the arts and other countries, but never a thing about politics. Politicking is something that is truly too much for many of our female minds, though young women at this school exist that seem to dream about it.

Still, you'll find many here that are interesting, many who aren't, many who will positively get on your last nerve, and so much more. We are but a motley little crew at this school, and with your intelligence, you'll likely get in on a scholarship. Perhaps I can put in a word for you? I dreadfully hope so.

The name? Oh yes - it's the Pennington Academy for Young Ladies. You'll fit in well here, I assure you.

Regards!
-S.
