Title: Why!?
Jill - August 23, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Ugh.
I am extremely frustrated at the moment.
Alright, my site, we require members to register with there characters first and last name with a period at the end.
I know many of you will disagree with this, but I like everyone's names to look the same.
Now, I have this rule written down three times, once in an image at the top, once in the rules and once in the sidebar.
Although, I am still constantly getting people registering incorrectly.
It's starting to bother me at this point.
GAHH.
I don't know why it's so hard to just do it.
ANOTHER RANT.
I can't stand it when people use wayyy too old people as the age for their play-by.
I don't want to revel anyone, but someone used a thirty-something year old woman, as a FRESHMAN.
-endrant-

*hugs* Shhhh, it's okay... *pats*
Alright, so... I understand what you mean. It seems that you're a little bit OCD about the name thing, and I can really understand that. It is nice for everything to be neat and organized, with a little period dotting the end. And it is a simple request to make.
Some people, however, just don't seem to like following rules, and they instead do their own thing. Have you made an announcement on your site, and perhaps talked to these people one-on-one to ask them to pay closer attention to your rules?
And I hate play-by's period, because they seem to lack imagination to me, but I must say that I wonder about some people's choices. Did the thirty-year-old at least look young? 0.o

Not really, she looks, like twenty-five.
She couldn't even pass for senior.
I am totally frusturated.
But, I don't want to sound like an ass, for being like,
"Yeah, you've gotta change you're playby."
I'm kind-of bad when it comes to disipline.

x) I'm not good with discipline, either. I'm a bit of a pushover.
Just explain to the member, very politely, that their play-by is far too old to be a freshman, and that they need to start looking for a younger one. It's very reasonable, and you won't sound like a jerk. And then, if they argue or simply don't listen, you CAN start being a bit meaner about it.
(I feel weird saying play-by. I feel like I'm misspelling playboy.)

I have the exact same rule at my sites. ^^ For some reason I'm more patient and tolerant that I should be, so I just change their names myself and everything's good.
Although it does make one wonder if they're reading the rules at all...

My new site request simply 'First Last'. But even my coadmin didn't read the rules and registered with first middle last in all lowercase. And then following all the new members registered as first middle last because of that bad example. I have no one to blame but to change every name back to First Last. -sighs-
I also have a rules in my new site that the character's age cannot be more than six years younger than the play-by real age... You know, Alexis Bledel is already 26. So on my site, people can't use her as a character that's younger than 20. I know, I know she looks younger than her age, but many people didn't think if the play-by suits the character now, they just want to use that playby. I often see those rp request ad said, "if blake lively, miley cyrus, hanna beth are open on your site, then i'll join. if not, sorry."
I digressed. in one of my site, someone used bob dylan as a junior.

I agree things like that are annoying when it's so obvious, but I've never made a rule over it. I use Ewan McGregor for someone in their 20s and he's like 36 or something. He's had photo shoots for ages and I can and do use his younger ones because his younger ones simply fit my character, so those are the only pictures I use to make a sig or whatever. So putting an age limit on a celebrity face claim seems a bit futile, namely since Alexis Bledel could pass as a 12 year old.

I agree so much. The same thing's happening on my site, I usually just edit it myself, because I know some people don't read the rules until after they register, but I've had to edit like six names in the last week, and I don't think a lot of these people even read the rules after they joined, because only a small fraction of people have said like "whoops, I registered incorrectly, could you please change it for me?"
I also have a member who has posted several sites in the advertising board, but none of them have had a guest friendly board for me to post back. :S
EDIT: Woahdude, I just realised which site you own xD

I agree with you completely on this one! No need for me to say more to this.
*cracks up on the Alexis Bedel comment* Agree with you on that one too!

Poor you.
I just had /more/ people register incorrectly.
It's starting to annoy me.
Also, an old woman trying to pass as a froshie.
-isstillannoyed-
WHEN WILL THIS SEAZE?
And, yes, that is the site I own. -wink-

I never understood this. I mean with a 100+ accounts with a first and last name I thought people would understand that is what we wanted. Still we get people signing up with first names only, ooc names, and the dread first middle and last names.
